Chapter 20

Unexpected Love

I couldn't help but feel like something was not going to end up the way I wanted, because no matter how much I tried to ignore the thought that echoed in my head, I simply couldn't.

That convenience store belonged to your father., the voice kept saying.

It did. I tried to convince myself that I was remembering the wrong adress, that there have been too many years for me to remember, but I couldn't.

I was driving for a while when the road became worse, multiple holes shaking my car. I could barely see them in the dim light the lighting poles were offering. I could see the neat neighborhoods and beautiful buildings fade away as they made room for the distressing small houses.

"This place used to be cleaner", I thought. The state of desertion of the familiar surroundings always hits me like a punch in the stomach. I could remember walking on those streets as kid, playing and laughing with my friends and parents. I remembered when I climbed on that fence, that was now just a few rotten boards or when I would always buy ice cream from that store that now was just a dark shadow without windows, or when I we would play hide and seek in that small park... where was the park for goodness' sake?!

The moment my parents realized where the neighborhood was heading, they decided to move to Seoul. Before that, we were doing pretty well with my dad's store business and my mother being a teacher at the local school. Then my dad died, mom sold the store, and then it became harder for her to teach since her illness was making it hard for her... I always knew that my father's death was why my mother got sick, why she died. They loved each other dearly, and my mother tried to make their dream come true by buying the apartment I live in with Saan before she died.I didn't go to the old store in years, but I kept the house I spent my childhood in. It's like a time machine that brings me back in time. Still, the way this little town looks now never fails to destroy my mood.

I stopped the car and got off. I shivered, not because of the cold breeze of night, but because of the sight I was facing. At less than 100 steps away I could see the place that once represented a part of my life. I remembered the store bright and busy, always full of costumers greeted with my father's genuine smile. Now? Only shadows.

Focusing only on the ruins of my childhood, I did not notice the two werid guys smoking next to a tall wall. I was four steps away from them, when one of them, a masive, tall, blonde guy with scaring eyes got his cigarette out of his mouth to whistle at me. Fear made my heart raced like crazy, and I instantly made a few steps away and walked faster. To my surprise, they didn't followed me.

I didn't know if I should enter inside the store or wait for the man So Ra told me about outside. She only said that I have to be careful and to wait for the guys she sent to me. When it comes to anonymous calls there is always a big risk. You never know what pshyco could do it.

I made small steps towards the store, not sure about what I had to do. I stopped, only a meters away from the door. "Heck, I'm already here, aren't I?",  I thought. I put my hand on the doorknob and then I felt an awful pain in my head. I lost my ballance and I found myself lying on the ground. "I'm hurt" was the only thing my mind could think. I felt extremly dizzy and the view became cloudly. Looking around, I noticed I was inside the store, leaning against a wall. "I've must been unconcinous for at least a few minutes". The pain in my head was still there and when I touched my temple I felt the biggest bump I ever had. Taking my hand to my eyes, I saw the blood on it. In other circumstances I would freak out just at the sight of blood, but I had other things to worry about.

I saw the two men from outside whispering something to each other. Their faces were barely seen in the light of a single candle, placed on an old table. Since they did not noticed that I was awake and I hadn't the slighest idea of what I should do. Silently, I checked all my pockets, but they were emptly. I saw my bag on the table next to them. I wasn't tied up by anything, but they were too close to the only exit for me to try to escape. I pretended to be still unconcionous and tried to listen to their words. Holding my breath, I could hear:

"We must hurry, she wouldn come alone here, I'm telling you!"

"Look, buddy." the blonde man who whisteled at me earlier said between his teeth, showing the they were having that conversation for a while and he'd had enough. "If you weren't high, maybe you could understand that this is her god damned job! Boss knows what he's doing, she's harmless."

"Then why couldn't he get rid of her till now?" the other one spoke, leaning forwards to his friend to emphasize his point. Then his face was light by the candle and I could see why the other one told him he was high. His eyes were frightening. He was shorter than the other one, but he looked stronger. However, his sick-looking face and messy dark hair made his muscular figure look like an enormous war ship that now was nothing more than a wreck.

Their conversation eneded as the fair-haired man began throwing some of the dirtiest curses I've ever heard to his friend. My mind started working fast. There was no accident, no important information. Cha was behind all it, again. "I shouldn've been more careful. They are not expecting my workmates to come, but what if my they don't find me? Kang So Ra will realize then that they set me up, and she'll call the police. Woo Bin'll find out without a doubt and he'll come. If only I can resist until then! What can I do?" My vision was still blurry since I hit my head- or more exactly I was hit in the head. I tried to focus on different things, so that I wouldn't pay attention to my wound. "I have to think, I have to think", I kept telling myself.

"Ya, Reece, look who's up" the dark haired man spoke.

Reece- who judging after his name and blonde hair wasn't korean- looked at me. His lips formed a smirk that sent shivers down my spine.

"Good morning, your highness" he spoke the last words in English and you could sense that was his maternal language. Otherwise, his korean was really bad. "Have you slept well? Well, even if you didn't I and my friend here- you can call him Hulk-" he pointed to the other and Hulk waved his hand at me "are here to make sure that you'll sleep for a long, long time."

I tried to keep my poker face on. For nothing in the world would I want them to see me scared.

"Why didn't you do it already?" my voice came out husky, but strong.

They didn't get to say anything, as there was a light from outside that made all three of us flich. Looking out the window, I could see it was a car, and I sent a quick but wholehearted pray to God, hoping that there was my escape.

"There must be the others, they came to take our little princess" Reece said. I felt like the sky fell on me and I wanted to scream from the top of my lungs- I was frightened. But all I did was keeping quiet, my gaze becoming defiant everytime one of the two man looked at me.

Hulk checked them on the window and nodded towards Reece who immediately grabbed my arm and made me stand up.

"Soon." he answered my prevous question.

Hulk opened the door and let Reece and me exit, before he followed us outside and closed it. Looking around, I noticed that my car was still there, but my keys were in my bag, along with my phone and everything I had taken with me. I could see two frames getting out of the car, but I couldn't see their faces, because they were behind the car's headlights. They weren't afraid of the attention they could get, as the place was almost uninhabited.

"What, Boos sent you?!" Reece exclaimed. He handed me to a surprised Hulk before he moved closer to the two men and started talking to them, but I couldn't hear what they said. I must say, Hulk was a great nickname for the guy since I was sure I will end up having some bruises from his grip. If I'll live enough for it.

"Guess Boss knows what he's doing." Reece shrugged coming closer. He took my arm again and pushed me towards my new jailers. "We'll take care of her car and stuff." he said before heading off followed by Hulk.

"Get in the car." I've been told. Something in my mind clicked at the sound of the voice who spoke me and I flinched. Nevertheless, I obeyed instantly, not being able to resist. I sat in the backseat and the other man- a young man sat beside me. The the one who spoke got in, sitting driver seat and in the blink of an eye we were leaving.

I looked- actually, I stared at him like a mad person trying to figure out if I wasn't halucinating. Even if I wasn't- could I trust them?

"Park Shin Hye." the driver said and his voice made me flich again. "Are you hurt?"

"Lee Jang Soo?" I asked, then turned around to the young man beside me "And Lee Dae Jang?"

Dae Jung tried to give me a reassuring smile. I was in the same car with the man who tried to kill me a few weeks ago at Seoul News and with his son. That was not quite reassuring. "Yes, miss Park, it's us. Don't worry."

"Are you hurt? Do you need to go to the hospital?" Lee Jang Soo asked again. His presence made memories of our first encounter came back. I saw how he was looking around for me, how he locked me in that meeting room, how he pointed the gun towards me. But then, I remembered that he didn't and I remembered his reasons.

"She has a pretty ugly scar on her head, dad." Dae Jung said

"I'm fine." I managed to say looking at the two of them "What are you doing here?"

"Long story short, Yoo In-na promised she'll help us if we help her. Which means help you." the young man, who was a lot more talkative than his father said. Sure, the guilt of almost killing me a while ago must still be haunting him, I thought remembering the battles he fought before coming with the decision of not killing me.

"The police found out?"

"Yes. Cha had gone down lately, thanks to detective Kim. I'm not sure what he did, but he managed to mess up Cha's business. He worked a lot, especially in the last couple days." Lee Jang Soo decided to speak, revealing me the reason why Kim Woo Bin has been missing the last two days.

"Do you know where he is now?" I asked

"Probably trying to catch Cha before he runs away abroad" he answered, before continuing in a thoughtful manner "Let's hope he will do it, so this whole story can come to an end."

I couldn't agree more. But while I was praying for this whole thing to end and for Woo Bin to be alright, I saw Dae Jung frowning at his phone, which made all my body shiver. Now what?

"Dad.. " he began worried ...
