Nineteen
Photograph [Broken Memories #2]Seungwan had never been good with words and that wasn’t really going to change overnight. That didn’t change the fact that she was making it a point to apologize to everyone she’d ever done wrong to. She wrote them all letters all expressing how she felt, making sure each one was as personal as it could get, to the point whoever was reading it would probably feel too uncomfortable to read. She didn’t care about the reaction as much as the fact that she was actually doing what Sehun had suggested.
Only Sehun knew about what she was doing. Seungwan hadn’t had the heart to tell anyone else, not even Sooyoung who kept giving her knowing looks as if she knew what was going on anyway. Nothing ever escaped Sooyoung, a girl whose social network that was even bigger than Seungwan’s and had Oh Sehun wrapped around her finger. A burst of jealousy made her heart pound, which she immediately quelled because she knew that there was nothing going on between her friends.
Not when Sooyoung was finally serious about Kyuhyun. Something had changed during the summer and the specifics weren’t exactly clear but it was as if a switch had flipped and she finally realized how much the ex-pothead meant to her. The two were basically inseparable at this point and it was kind of disgusting but kind of cute at the same time.
“Two down this week and twenty-eight more to go,” Sehun said, kissing her forehead after they walked away from Park Jimin’s locker after she slipped the note inside it.
“I don’t know how I’m going to get a letter to Park Kyung without Sungmin finding out about it,” she grumbled, stopping in front of her class. Sehun’s was just across the hall but she couldn’t help but miss him when they weren’t together.
They gave each other a significant look and spoke at the same time. “Kyuhyun.”
“You two are so gross when you’re pretending to be the same person,” Seulgi’s voice intruded. “I’m starting to regret introducing you guys in the first place.”
“I don’t who I’d be if it weren’t for Sehun,” Seungwan said, seriously. “So don’t say that.”
Sehun kissed the tip of her nose in response as if to say he felt the same way about her. It felt natural for him to do that despite the fact that they weren’t officially dating and Seungwan didn’t want to be dating him. She didn’t want a label to affect the way they treated each other. She didn’t wanted their feelings for each other to be shoved into a little box of society’s standards and social norms. Labels did that and neither of them were ready for the implications of those labels.
“Guys! There’s a really cute kid in my Chemistry class,” Yeri’s voice joined the conversation. “His name’s Jungkook and he’s like-“
“Did you say Jungkook? As in Jeon Jungkook that has black hair and big eyes and a voice that's comparable to the syrup you put on top of your pancakes?” Sehun interrupted, looking at Seungwan.
Yeri’s eyes widened. “Yeah, that’s him. How do you know him because he said he’s new and doesn’t know anyone here?”
Seungwan answered. “He knows me and Sehun and Junmyeon and Song Minho.”
“Wait, how does this Jungkook kid know Song Minho?” Seulgi gasped. “I thought Minho only talks to Jongin. Is Jungkook a delinquent because if he is, he’s not touching a hair on Yeri’s head.”
Yeri frowned. “You guys can’t actually tell me what to do, you know that right?”
“Yes, we can. Now go to class,” Seungwan ordered, smugly, as Yeri walked away muttering how it was a minute before the bell anyway.
Lunch was rowdier than usual. Sooyoung had made a spectacle of interrogating Jungkook, who seemed to have a mutual interest in Yeri. She wondered why he’d transferred schools but if anyone had to deal with going to school with Haeryung and Jiyeon it was understandable. Sehun sat with Jongin that day for some bonding time and it was nice to see the two best friends interacting with each other. Seungwan felt as though they needed that as much as she needed her girls.
Mark and Suzy were next to her and this time it didn’t bother her even a little. She felt at peace with where she was at this stage of her life. She was aware of her faults, on the path of redemption and she had a large number of people that still cared about her despite knowing who she was. Seungwan had never felt better than ever.
“I’m tired of being an so do you think maybe we can be friends again?” Mark’s voice filled her ears. She looked away from Junmyeon and Joohyun being suspiciously couple like and turned towards him. Suzy was gone and she found herself looking around for her, wondering if this was a pathetic attempt to mess with her.
“She’s giving us privacy for now,” Mark said, noticing what she was doing. “She’s the one that told me I should be friends with you again.”
“I don’t want to be your friend just because your girlfriend tells you to be,” Seungwan replied and there was no trace of bitterness in her voi
