Gimme some fries!
A Fan Fiction Writer's GuideI see a lot of new authors that haven't had as much experience in writing do this:
Baekhyun giggled and hugged Chanyeol.
"I love you," he slurred.
Chanyeol grabbed Baekhyun's hands and took them from his waist.
"Baekhyun, you're drunk."
Baekhyun shrugged and linked arms with the giant. Then he pulled Chanyeol into the large crowd.
[time skip]
If you don't see what I mean, let me explain.
For one thing, there is a time skip. Second, the paragraphs aren't even paragraphs; they're short sentences. Throughout the story, it'll be exactly like this. One liner (or two, maybe three if they're bold enough) "paragraphs."
So I assume you're wondering what fries have to do with writing.
This is what my 7th grade Langauge Arts teacher told me:
What's better? A full plate of fries? Or only a few? A full plate, of course. So when writing, give your readers a full plate of fries; use sensory detail to your advantage; make sure your word choice is sophisticated; and make sure you're giving your readers more.
Those weren't her exact words, but the fry thing was real.
Also, if there are many, many grammar mistakes -- verb tense changing between past and present, especially -- please don't comment "You're a great author! So many of our good ones are leaving AFF. I'm glad you're still here."
I saw that the other day and I had to keep from throwing my phone across the room. As a native English speaker and someone who is growing up in a family of Grammar Nazis, it always gets on my nerves when someone who doesn't deserve praise gets praise.
Sorry if I come off as y. It's just a huge pet peeve.
