Great character you got... not.
A Fan Fiction Writer's GuideI know I went over personality in a previous chapter, but this time, I'll go more into a single personality that I see 24/7.
A weakly written character.
No charm.
No flaws.
A Mary Sue or Marty Stu.
It doesn't matter what tragedies and hardships the author puts them through; it doesn't change the fact that a bland character has been written.
Add charm. Have your character smooth talk their way out of things, but at the same time have a dorky personality. Or have a character that seemingly hates everyone and is rude, but in turn they are super kind and just wants to cuddle.
Add flaws.
Have a character with a bad habit (i.e.biting nails, squeezing their bottom lip with their fingers when concentrating [my friend does that], teeth grinding, etc.).
Or have a character who actually sweats.
Whoa.
I know.
Never seen that before.
Or one that actually goes to the bathroom.
Yeah. Haven't heard of that, have you?
Get my point?
