16. The Tour

A chance encounter

“Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through Music.” -Jimi Hendrix

Hwa Young

The next day, Hwa young was finally driving to see the company - Soul Star, she reviewed files on the staff and artists. Although Himchan said he’ll stop by later on, she left nervous. It was like being the new kid introduced to a new classroom full of new kids, some around year age others a bit older.

“Just breathe Hwa young, I’m sure it’ll be alright.” She quietly told herself as she felt herself nearing to the building.

“Are you okay back there Ms Eung.” Called Jiyeon from the front of the car and Hwa young nodded as inside her she mind was preparing at what lay ahead of her in the company. The car slowly stopped and the window lowered as Hwa young took a first glance at the building. It was certainly big, three stories tall with the company logo of the star on the side of the building, a pristine and clear white.

With a deep breath she got out off the car and walked beside Jiyeon and another into the building while Jiyeon explained everything and showed her the whole building as they pushed through the doors.

“Here is the front reception desk of course, here is Ms Han Soo” She bowed to a middle aged lady that had a black suit and pants with black heels and a warm smile. “Nice to meet you.” Hwa young bowed politely and the lady smiled back at her, “No, the pleasure’s mine I believe we met back at Vancouver for the funeral.” Hwa young nodded recalling her face as she met many of the staff from the company. “There’s more to show and you’ll get used to remembering everyone here eventually.” Jiyeon swiftly turned her back and her heels click clacked on the floor.

Hwa young observed the interior designing of the building had light colors of brown, white, beige and a few splashes of pink and yellow, the architecture and various works of art, plants and furniture were modern and chic. She admired the pictures that lined the various hallways of the artists and around the front desk, it brought an empty corridor smiling with delight. “The elevator is your best transportation since you’ll be managing and I don’t think you’ll need the stairs unless its urgent.” Jiyeon talked on as she pressed the second floor button.

“The first floor is mainly secretarial work and administration. Second floor is where the artists train, the dance studio, recording studio and cafetary. I think you’ll like this floor.” Jiyeon gave a small wink as she knew beforehand that Hwa young liked and preferred being in a music studio. Basically anything labeled with music, she was in.

“And don’t worry, they won’t bite well I think they’d stare more since they were told beforehand that the father’s daughter will take over the company and well, they’re not much older than you.” Hwa young knew and was curious to how they’d react exactly.

The elevator dinged and already she could hear the music and shouts of people in the rooms. Jiyeon walked over to one that marked “Dance Studio” and turned to Hwa young, “Here is where the majority of our artists are found practising new choreography or merely inventing new pieces of choreography for an upcoming song in postproduction.” Hwa young opened the door slightly and peeked in to see a bunch of guys practising and knew that she was merely observing.

She recognized a particular individual that was currently dancing while the others watched all amazed, his black hair seemingly soaked from all the dancing. She recognized him as Kai one of EXO’s main dancers, he had a lot of talent as she was told and it didn’t surprise her. She’d watched video’s of EXO performances and their songs and quickly came to be one of Kpop’s biggest acts. She quickly pointed out Luhan, Baekhyun, Sehun and D.O who were the ones at the sides. I’m pretty sure Lilly would beg me to let her in the company just to get close to EXO Hwa young thought as she shook her head and quietly exited the door but not before getting a smile from Sehun as he turned his head hearing the creaking of the door closing.

“I’m sure they’ll be excited getting to know you, but we have plenty more to see.” All she could concentrate was the heels of Jiyeon clicking away on the floor. Jiyeon pointed to a door marked “Recording Studio” and heard voices of someone singing and knew it would be rude disturbing them so they continued on with the tour. After what seemed like an exhausting three hours the office on the third floor was her end of the tour.  She swung the chair around and looked at her new office.

Her father’s office. But it was hers now. She turned around in the chair and decided she wanted to explore the building more. She stood up and walked, passing by the photos but one caught her eye. It was a photo of her father, her mother and cradling in her arms Hwa young as a baby and a man standing close to her father, he had a smile and an arm around him. Who is he? At first she’d thought it was Mr Yoo, but no the man was slightly taller, had crinkly, smiley eyes, a slight stubble on his chin and wore a regular blue shirt and brown pants paired with black work shoes. It was odd, she had never seen him before and yet this was taken when she was only a baby, it would make sense since she didn’t know all of her father’s friends.

Maybe I can stop by and ask Mr Yoo She thought and took the photo and slipped it in her bag and quietly opened the door to exit. It was already lunch and most of the staff and artists would be in the cafeteria eating.

She walked alone along the endless corridor, with its black and white marble tiles and decorated walls of art or awards won by certain artists over the years. Certain doors were labeled “Administration office”, “Gym”, “Staff room” and the list went on. She could barely even keep track stopping in front of the elevator she pushed the button to go down. The elevator dinged and as soon as she stepped into the elevator she tipped her head up to see Himchan.

“Ah, hey I didn’t think you’d be here.” Hwa young exclaiming in surprise.

“I thought I’d drop by a bit earlier, you don’t sound particularly happy.” Himchan pouted which made her scoff.

“I’m not Himchan haha believe me, I am happy that you’re here just didn’t think you’d find me that quickly.” She stood next to him as she pressed the button for the second level.

“Well I didn’t think I should wait, since I think you’d be bored already being by yourself.” He winked at her and Hwa young could only sigh at his antics. Most fans would die being next to Himchan, Hwa young wanted to just hit him for being so flirty. “I’m fine and I’m not alone, Jiyeon has been good company.” She paused and continued,

“And I think you should try your flirtation techniques on other girls.” She looked at him with a it-doesn’t-work-on-me face. Himchan only laughed.

“Just trying to keep the mood up, I didn’t think it was a problem.” He raised his eyebrows at her and she lifted her hand up for a moment of silence.

“Okay, have it your way then.” Himchan couldn’t help though but smile, knowing that Hwa young wouldn’t be mad at him for long.

The elevator doors opened up and she could immediately smell the wafting of food, and could hear her stomach rumbling.

“I think you need to eat.” Himchan laughed brushing against her shoulder in an encouraging way as Hwa young scoffed and followed after Himchan to the cafeteria.

She could hear the various chatter and opened the door to the cafeteria. Most of the staff and artists were there chattering with food in their mouths.

“Its pretty packed in here.” She mumbled a bit as she looked over to find any space.

“Hey CEO-nim over here!” She turned her head around trying to look for the voice that called her name and saw a waving hand. She walked closer and realized that it was Sehun, the one that smiled at her from the dance studio.

“Is it okay to sit here?”

“Yeah of course why wouldn’t it? After all you’re our new CEO and we have to treat with royalty.” Sehun smiled with a grin and got whacked on the head.

“Hey! What they heck man?” He rubbed his head in annoyance as the one that whacked his head sat next to him.

“I don’t think she wants to be worshipped given by the way she approaches you.” The guy sat next to him. He had black hair that was tousled and ears that stuck out more but made it look more cuter on him. His voice was almost similar to Yongguk’s but wasn’t so far deep, he had a warm, comfortable smile that made Hwa young feel more welcoming.

“You’re Park Chanyeol right?” Hwa young felt herself that she needed to remember every artist’s name so she wouldn’t feel guilty getting any name wrong.

“Yes, and you must be Hwa young, our new CEO. Nice to meet you.” He bowed politely towards Hwa young.

“Thank you, I hope that I can do well as a CEO.” She smiled politely as she felt Himchan lay a hand on her shoulder.

“You feel stiff Hwa young, lighten up! Maybe I should try and getting you out more.” Himchan broke out in a smile and Hwa young punched him knowing that she felt fine and was just being shy.

“Himchan, I think she’s just trying to get a feel around the place.” Chanyeol reassured Hwa young with a smile and his eyes twinkled making her cheeks blush. Its not everyday that she gets the chance to have a bunch of handsome guys around her.

Although reality sunk in, since she knew that there was a strict policy of no dating with employees, especially artists. It was a policy she respected since it wasn’t common with dating scandals with artists and most fans would definitely get angry.

“Its great seeing a new face around here, at least it won’t get boring.” Sehun piped up, Hwa young saw how sincere and kind the guy was and she liked him.

“Well I beg to differ Sehun, I think if she meets the entire gang it would be overwhelming and perhaps annoying.” Chanyeol clucked his tongue at Sehun and dug into a tray of assorted food.

“Hyunggggg.” Sehun turned towards Chanyeol with puppy dog eyes, his blonde hair framing against his forehead, it made him actually look like a little puppy dog. Hwa young couldn’t help but laugh and Himchan shrugged his shoulders.

“He’s like the puppy version of Zelo, except a bit shorter.” Himchan couldn’t help but hold his laughter and gazed at the pair. They seemed adorable and she admired their friendship between each other. It reminded her of Lilly, she couldn’t help but feel a bit homesick since its been awhile she called her.

“I think I should get some food, I’m starving.” She smiled and stood up to head towards the line for the food.

She gazed at the selection of the food; there were the korean dishes of Bibimbap, dukbokki, kimchi, bulgogi and another section separating from the more western dishes; Burgers, sandwiches, fries, soup. All of it made her hungry and decided to take one of each.

Coming back to the table with all of the food Sehun, Chanyeol and Himchan were staring at the amount of food. “Are you sure you can finish all of that.” Himchan gave Hwa young a doubtful look, but Hwa young gave him a serious answer.

“I’m starving and I think I can eat all of these dishes no sweat.” Himchan shrugged it off knowing that she sounded already like Daehyun, hungry as a lion.

After Hwa young’s satisfied stomach of food she continued to talk with Sehun and Chanyeol as Himchan told her that he needed to be back at TS. “How’s it like being here, I’m sure you enjoy it, in the company I mean.” Hwa young wanted to get some answers, wanted to know how the artist themselves felt and she felt comfortable talking with Chanyeol.

“I enjoy it here, your father was a really kind guy and did make some good decisions for the company.” Chanyeol nodded which made Hwa young feel some good relief that her father was the man he was.

“We all miss him, I know you did the most.” She could feel the sincerity in his voice and knew that people in the company really loved her father.

“How come I didn’t see you at the funeral?”

“We sat at the very back, at that time me and the other members didn’t want to approach you, it seemed a very sensitive time and we wanted to give you space” Hwa young felt touched at his response, not many would consider her feelings especially during the funeral.

“Thank you really, and I hope that I can make the good decisions for the company.” She smiled acknowledging him as she had to go and take care of other business related things.

Overall, it was a nice start being CEO.
