Warm Conversations

Me and Her

Krystal POV:

Jessica didn’t quite give me an explanation as what took place that night, but instead clarified that all that entailed was my tolerance was definitely not up to par with theirs. From what I remember, the sight of Amber at the bar across from our booth was enough for me to lose myself.

I shook my thoughts from my mind and continued to punch away at the keys on my keyboard to send out my last email for the day. Tiffany’s got me working much later than usual, but that’s no issue. She’s expecting the full research of the Murphy’s case by Tuesday and I’ve only gotten a little under 12 references.

I decided to call it a night, packing my side purse with papers related to the upcoming case. I glanced down at my watch, ensuring I had time to catch the last outgoing train on the subway system. Thinking back, it would be cliché that’d I’d still be commuting back and forth on the same subway car at the same time that Amber and I met. I heaved a deep sigh and slung my side purse along my right shoulder before pushing my chair in.

For mid February, Seoul continued blowing its brisk air before the end of winter neared for the year. As I stood on the platform, waiting for the last train, I scrolled through my phone analyzing the documents I’d saved prior to me leaving the office. A small buzz to my device notified me of an incoming text message at the top bar of my iPhone screen. My eyes soon followed to the notification from a person I wasn’t quite expecting, Amber. Without a second thought, I quickly swiped down to view the entire message.

From: Dorkber

Hey.

A simple word sent me spiraling in anxiety. I could tell Amber was distancing herself from me, but I shouldn’t be one to talk either. There was so much tension between the two of us it was almost too frustrating to talk to her. There was so much left unsaid that I’m sure needs to take time and practice to say. She’s left me so in the dark that I haven’t even gotten the chance to ask her where she’s been for the past six years at the café. All she did was tell me everything she’s done that the public and every online article know. I want to know why she left me. I want to know what she was going to tell me that last night I saw her.

My mind was flooded with thoughts and questions about Amber, but I didn’t want her to run away from me again. I shook the subject from my head and decided to stay on the safe side with my reply.

To Dorkber

Hi. What’s up?

A response from Amber appeared almost immediately.

From: Dorkber

Nothing much. I was just gonna ask if you were taking the train home.

Hmmm? How does she know?

To: Dorkber

I am? How’d you know?

From: Dorkber

Ahh, I see. So that is you.

Instantly, my head shot up looking around frantically. Is she here? Wait why is she here?

I felt a tap on my left shoulder, and whipped my body around. There stood Amber in a light black coat and average jeans. She gave me a small smile that sent shivers down my back.

“Coincidence, huh?” Amber dug her hands into her pockets to refrain her hands being exposed from the cold breeze. I shifted my shoulder purse back onto my shoulder to avoid it from slipping off.

“Y-Yeah. I guess so.”

She altered her head to face towards the train tracks, most likely admiring the nostalgia I felt too from being together again on the same platform we had first met on. “Do you normally take the train? I mean being a big shot music artist, wouldn’t you have your own car to go to an from places?”

Amber shrugged her shoulders, “I take it every now again, depending on the day. Traffic can be hell on Mondays and Thursdays, so I take public transportation to ease the frustration.” Her attention shifted back to me, “I see that you still take it.”

I gave an awkward smile and clasped my hands together to mask any embarrassment behind my fumbled response earlier. “I enjoy the train. It lets me relax and ease my thoughts from work and other things on my mind.”

“Hmm.” Amber exhaled creating a cloud of hot breath into the winter air. She turned herself back towards the tracks and said nothing more. I mirrored her actions and turned the same direction she faced as well. We stood in silence for the next 3 minutes before the announcer above notified those on the platform that the train would be arriving in the next 2 minutes.

Amber was first to break the short silence with a question, “Do you still live in Hongik?”

“No, but I still live in the Mapo-gu district. Hongik got a bit too noisy from time to time, so I thought it was good to have a change in pace.” I responded.

“Ah, okay. I understand. I mean Hongik is pretty much a party quarter for those university kids.” She chuckled.

Soon after, we heard the screeching sound of the train brakes as it neared the platform for a stop. Please stand back as the train makes a complete stop.

Amber and I took a few steps forward to the nearest car door, we waited for it to open and Amber signaled me to step in first once those outgoing stepped off. I lifted the corners for my lips as a thank you as she ushered me in to find a seat. Luckily, most of the patrons left on this stop, granting us the opportunity to snag a couple seats. She sat to my right and reached to my side for my bag to place on her lap, “I don’t mind at all.”

Step back, doors closing.

We felt the train begin to move as it embarked on its tracked direction, shifting left and right to the weight of each individual car. Yet again, silence fell amongst us once more. Amber continued to look forward towards the windows opposite of us, heaving her chest up and down. I could tell that she was trying to think of something to say, because she must’ve hated this silence between us just as much as I did.

“Amber, I’ve missed this.” I mustered up the courage to finally say something. She slightly turned her head towards me, her eyes meeting mine. “It’s been a fair amount of time since we rode the same train together.”

Amber said nothing, and instead I continued to speak, “I’m glad I settled on asking about the music you were listening to through your headphones. Then it wouldn’t have given me the opportunities to get to have warm conversations on the way to and from work.”

My gaze shifted over the window across from us, the warm air within the train car fogged up the corners of the glass. It was dark outside, but the streetlights kept the night ambiance at bay. “I’d like for that to happen again. Or at least one more time.”

I felt Amber adjust herself beside me, her hands now tucked underneath her legs probably to warm them up faster. I could see at the corner of my eye, she slowly transferred her stare from me to her lap where my purse was placed.

“Would be okay with you if I decided to ride the train with you from now on at night?” Amber whispered beneath her breath. “I’ve missed it too. So if it’s alright with you, would I be able to?”

Instead of a small smile, I couldn’t help the excitement from radiating from my body and placed my hand on her knee while smiling brightly.

“I would like that very much, Amber.”

For the next 17 minutes, Amber and I talked over several different topics from work to home. Nothing to heavy for a small train ride, just normal Amber and Krystal things. Nostalgia washed over me the entire time, letting my mind wander to reminisce about my moments spent with Amber in the past. We talked and talked until my stop came up.

She hugged me goodbye before the train doors shut and I started my walk back home to my apartment.

I screamed internally with happiness of the events that took place tonight, my heart still racing over the chance to sit and chat with Amber again.

It comes to show, I'm still utterly in love.

Yo. Sora here. Crazy, huh?

I'm back. Yes. Yes. Yes. I know, I haven't updated in a year or two. To be quite honest with you all, I haven't updated in a while for the fact that I don't really follow kryber as much as I did in the past. Although, I think in the span of a month, I'm getting back into the gist of it.

Don't let that keep your hopes up for me updating my stories, because I'll probanly be updating them when I want. Which normally is at months at a time. Although, that's nothing new. Any MeUs out there would be patient enough to read these anyway.

Please upvote, subscribe, or shoot me a message!

Love you guys.

Sora.

Chapter 15: I waited for hours before I opened this for fear that my brain was just tricking me, but you really updated omg :')) How long has it been? I hope you continue to update even if at a slow pace because this site lost many veteran and great kryber writers like you and several fics have been dropped :( Because of that, I almost lost interest in kryber as well. But theyre always able to pull me back. Anyways, no pressure though author, but always know that plenty of us are waiting and will continue to wait patiently. ^^
