“PARK KYONDAE!” A voice screamed instead of called. KyonDae was just putting her sister to sleep when she heard her name was called. She quickly went out from the store room, which was also her room, to ChungAe’s, the one who called her.

Just as she reached the front door of her stepsister’s room, a pile of clothes was thrown at her. KyonDae looked at the pile of clothes and her stepsister back and forth.

“Pick all of them up and iron them in 10 minutes!” ChungAe ordered while putting on her make up without even looking at KyonDae who collected the clothes as fast as she could. “HURRY!” ChungAe yelled again while throwing a bottle of perfume towards KyonDae. The bottle hit her head hard but KyonDae couldn't care less. What was on her mind that moment was to iron about 15 dresses in 10 minutes. She quickly took all of the clothes to the ironing board at the living room and started her first task.

“I want no wrinkles AT ALL. Do you hear me?” ChungAe said as she yanked KyonDae’s hair who was ironing her second dress. KyonDae nodded and tried to do her work faster. “10 minutes!” ChungAe reminded as she went to the shoe rack, trying to pick a pair of heels for her to wear.

The shoe rack placed ChungAe and ChungAh’s shoes. ChungAe mindlessly threw every single pair of heels that didn’t satisfy her all over the floor. The twins owned about 20 pairs of shoes each and ChungAe scattered them all over the place including ChungAh’s. They took each other’s stuff as they liked without permission.

KyonDae knew that ChungAe was creating a mess but she had no time to bother about it. She knew as well that she will get scolded for it even though it wasn’t her fault. KyonDae sped up her work and at the same time, tried to iron ChungAe’s dresses properly like she wanted. She knew it was impossible to finish ironing those dresses in ten minutes as ChungAe’s clothes were very hard to iron.

Finally, after finding the pair that suited her short dress well, ChungAe walked towards the living room again and grabbed her handbag. She looked at KyonDae who was struggling with her dresses and yelled, “WHAT THE HELL IS TAKING YOU SO LONG? I NEED THOSE DRESSES TO BE IN THE CAR RIGHT NOW !!”

KyonDae didn’t give any reactions and only continued her work. Suddenly, they heard a horn from the front gate. ChungAe looked outside the window and cursed. “! Yah, you filth! My boyfriend is already outside! Why are you not done yet?!” ChungAe stomped towards KyonDae and grabbed the dresses that KyonDae had finished ironing. There were about six more dresses and ChungAe couldn’t wait anymore.

“Haish! You are so slow! Now I can only bring these dresses along and have to leave the rest! It’s all because of you!” ChungAe hissed angrily. KyonDae lowered her head and didn’t dare to meet her eyes. If you gave them to me earlier this wouldn’t have happened. She thought to herself.

Still feeling angry, ChungAe grabbed the hot iron and harshly put it on KyonDae’s arm to vent her anger. KyonDae yelped in pain as the hot iron burned her arm. She backed away while holding her left arm, which was turning very red due to the hot iron. Tears were threatening to fall but she fought with herself to not cry. Crying always made things worse for her.

“That’s what you get when you are being too slow!” ChungAe hissed and walked out of the house with the dresses in her hands. KyonDae picked up the rest of the clothes and put them aside. She decided to just continue ironing them and put them back in ChungAe’s closet later.

She had just turned the iron off when her stepmother yelled, “YAH! WHY ARE THE SHOES SCATTERED AROUND?!” KyonDae was surprised to see her stepmother waking up from her sleep so soon as she was planning to rearrange the shoes back before she woke up.

“Answer me!” Her stepmother said while yanking KyonDae’s hair. One thing about her family was that, they always liked to pull her hair. Or more like grabbing it actually. “Why are the shoes scattered around?!” Her stepmother asked again while giving her a slap.

“ChungAe was looking for the right shoes, mom.” KyonDae answered. Her cheek stung. Her stepmother’s slap was nothing funny. It hurt like hell.

“Then why aren’t you cleaning them up?! Do you expect them to be everywhere and wait until I tell you to do it?!”

“I was about to keep them away.”

“THEN DO IT NOW WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?” Her stepmother threw her onto the floor and KyonDae quickly picked all the shoes and arranged them on the shoe rack. She reminded herself to arrange accordingly to their owners too.

“Do it quick.” Her stepmother smacked her head. KyonDae rushed her work even though she already did it as fast as she could.

While she was arranging the shoes, her father came home. Right after he entered the house, the whole place was surrounded by the smell of spirits and smokes from her father’s cigarette.

KyonDae’s stepmother felt revolted seeing the man's drunken state. She really hated it when he returned home with the smell of alcohol, as if she didn’t have her fair share of drinking herself.

“Yah! Can’t you at least, for the first time in your life, not coming home reeked with alcohol?!” Her stepmother asked harshly, while waving KyonDae to go away once she was done. KyonDae quickly went back to her room and at the same time felt weird on how she managed to arrange pairs and pairs of shoes in a short time.
