No Confidence
Life Threw Me A Curve Ball
“What if he’s just being nice?” asks Byul.
“Byul come on. It’s obvious he likes you.” Yoonyi says.
“Do you know for a fact? Has he told anyone that he does?”
“Well..not that I know of.”
“You see! Maybe I’ve just been imagining that he likes me.”
“Do you want me to find out for you?” Yoonyi asks.
“Mmm I don’t know.”
“I’ll ask around.”
“You know what, no. I don’t want to know; I don’t care! You see this is exactly what I didn’t want! He’s distracting me already and we’re not even together!” Byul says in frustration.

The semester was finally over.
“Do you know how hard I’m fighting this?”
“Well, don’t fight it. If you like him then don’t fight it.” Says Hanna.
“No! I have to stay focused.”
“Listen you don’t want to let this opportunity pass you by.” Says Yoonyi, “Chen is a good guy. You don’t find guys like him too easily and you know it. What are you afraid of?”
“I don’t know~” Byul says in an upset tone.
“Yes you do. You’re afraid of getting hurt again.” Says Yoonyi, “Honestly I don’t think Chen will hurt you. It’s obvious he’s completely different from all the losers we’ve come across.”
“I just..I don’t think I have the confidence. I know he’s a great person. I feel I’m going to fall short from his expectations.”
“What? No! You definitely don’t fall short. You’re hardworking, caring, loving, among other things.” Says Hanna.
“You’ve been there; you’ve seen it. There must be something wrong with me. All the guys who’ve been interested in me eventually dumped me. What if it’s the same with him? What if he only likes me for a little while and then decides he’s no longer interested? I don’t think I can deal with more heartache.”
“I don’t think he’ll do that. He’s different.” Says Yoonyi.
“How can you be so sure?” asks Byul.
“I have a feeling. You should see the way he talks about you. He really cares about you.”
“He talks about me?”
“Yes! He practically tells everyone how smart and nice you are.” Says Yoonyi.
“Yeah and everyone says you two would make the perfect couple.” Adds Hanna.
“I don’t know..”
“Have some confidence.” Says Yoonyi, “He’s a catch! And if you’re really interested you have to go for it, because he’s going to graduate soon and what if you never see him again. Later on when this is all over you’re going to regret not going for it.”
“Well graduation couldn’t have come at a better time. After tomorrow I won’t be seeing him anymore. I’ll get over him.”
Yoonyi and Hanna felt sadness towards their dear friend. All those failed relationships had robbed her of confidence.
They could only do so much. The rest was up to her.
