My Royal Romance

Kris' Pov

I looked out the window; it was snowing and frost clung onto the foliage. It reminded me of that day; that day when Eonjeong and I had started going out.

~

I blew into my cold hands. It was my last year of University. I sat on a bench near the park, resting a bit before continuing my walki home. Bits of snow stuck onto my hair, but I didn't bother trying to get them out. I just watched the empty playground, waiting for something to happen.

Right before I was about to leave, I heard someone shout.

"Yah! Help! Somebody, help me! Please!"

I traced the voice, and saw the girl being attacked by a stranger. She looked at me with fear in her eyes, and she started getting wilder and wilder. The attacker quickly glanced over at me, and I didn't even know what I was doing. Everything was a blur. I just ran up to him, and hit him as hard as I could, so that he'd let go of the mystery girl. The attacker fell to the ground after I socked him in the cheek, and I instantly grabbed the girl's arm, pulling her up.

"Let's go!" I said urgently, tugging at her wrist. She nodded obediently, and ran away with me, until I felt like we were safely far away.

"Th-thank you so much," she huffed, trying to get her breath back.

"Yeah, no problem," I replied, also trying to get a grip on what had just happened.

Once we regained ourselves, she held her hand out.

"What?" I asked, confused at her gesture.

"You don't shake hands?" she looked at me, amused.

"Ah, no, I do," I nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed for not knowing her intentions.

"You're funny," the girl smiled, as she took my hand and shook it.

"I wasn't trying to be," I protested.

She just laughed.

"Sorry," she smiled widely, and I felt myself blush.

"You're handsome, you know?" she added.

"Ah, thanks." I cleared my throat. "You're pretty um, cute yourself."

I wanted to hide in the corner because my awkwardness was too overwhelming, but the girl might not have sensed it, or maybe she's just really great at acting, because she just smiled cheerily at me.

"My name's Rin Eonjeong. Yours?" she asked.

"Ah, it's Yifan, but call me Kris." I told her.

"Kris... That's a nice name." Eonjeong beamed.

"Thanks. You too." I replied.

She suddenly blushed.

"Thanks." She mumbled. "So, you're the Crown Prince right?"

I blinked, and nodded.

She smiled widely.

"That's cool. Is it fun there?" she asked.

I paused for a second, before smiling and nodding.

"Yeah. It's really fun in there." I laughed softly.

"You must have a lot of friends there, yeah?" she asked.

"Yeah, and even though they're troublesome, they're fun." I replied, grinning at the thought of the whole group back at home.

"You're fun too," Eonjeong commented, making me blush in embarrassment. "We should hang out."

"Y-yeah, we should," I agreed, trying not to freak out with happiness.

And this was the start of our relationship together.

"Dude, what's with you?" Baekhyun eyed me oddly, as I rolled on the bed like a seal, a month after I had met Eonjeong.

"Pf, Baekhyun, he's probably fangirling over that one girl... um..." Xiumin said, trying to recall her name.

I looked at him, annoyed.

"It's Eonjeong for the billionth time. How many more times do I have to tell you!" I complained.

"Yah, Kris, you're acting weird today!" Suho, being the motherly guy he is, whined.

Baekhyun rolled his eyes.

"He always acts weird." He mumbled.

"Baekhyun, sweetie, don't mumble, it makes it hard on my ears." Suho scolded, and sighed dramatically with an eye roll, before turning to me. "Now tell mommy Suho what's up."

I looked at him, disgusted.

"Can't I just be in peace?" I asked.

"Nope!" Tao said, immediately diving next to me on the bed, when he stepped in.

Being the little aegyo monster he was, he had his arms wrapped around me as if I was his teddy bear, which I assure you, I am not.

"What's up?" he asked innocently.

I softly smiled at the younger male. I've never really told anyone, but Tao's probably my favorite guy to be around in the whole palace, even more than the other guys, but seriously, the kid is so affectionate, it just makes me want to cringe and barf. I pamper him like I'm his mom though, ugh. It's usually just me giving him a small reward like food or little stuffed toys, like pandas. God, that kid loved pandas, I don't even know why.

Anyways, I finally spilled about how today was my date with Eonjeong.

"Wait, you've never mentioned a girlfriend?" Kai said, puzzled.

"Cause I didn't ask her out," I explained.

"It's been a month... You're kinda making her wait." Lay said, laughing softly.

I shot a glare at him and replied, "At least I'm not forgetful."

"Yah, how could you say that! You know my forgetfulness is not on purpose!" Lay pouted.

"Okay sorry," I grumbled. "Hey, why are you guys always teasing me!"

"Because, we love you!" Tao said, affectionately smiling at me.

I looked at him in playful disgust.

"Hey, are you gonna ask her out today?" Kai asked impatiently. "If I were you, I would've asked her out ages ago! Gosh hyung, you just don't have it good with the ladies like I do."

I shot him a glance.

"Stop being so arrogant, it's not gonna get you a girlfriend right now," Suho pouted, slapping his arm.

"Oh sorry," Kai said reluctantly, rubbing his arm.

"These kids these days," Suho rolled his eyes.

"Anyways, I'm kind of scared. What if she says no?" I asked, biting my lip nervously.

"Aw, she can't say no to you! I'll use wushu on her?" Tao suggested innocently.

I couldn't help but laugh at him.

"No, would you like it if I sent my deathly hot stares at a girl you liked?"

Tao looked at me, repulsed.

"What are you talking about?! What are these 'deathly hot stares' you're talking about?! Please don't tell me they're the stares you do when you look in the mirror every morning 'cause you're freaky!" The younger boy said with that pure innocence of his.

I just stared at him.

"Anyways, what do you guys think?" I asked, changing the subject.

"Dude, you're hot, don't worry," Lay reassured me.

"Yeah, Kris, you're a fine piece of specimen." Sehun said, and I wasn't even sure if he knew what he just said.

"Sehun, what?" Suho looked at him oddly.

He just shrugged.

"I don't know... I got it from someone on the streets?" He said, furrowing his brow. "Someone just came up to me and said, 'you're a fine piece of specimen,' and said is was a compliment, but I'm not even sure what specimen is...?"

Suho facepalmed himself.

"Sehun, we do not repeat phrases from random strangers on the street. If you ever said that to a girl, she'd dump you into the ocean quicker than Lay forgets things." Suho frowned, and so did Lay.

"I keep on saying that my forgetfulness isn't my fault!" He pouted.

"Okay, okay, we get you, we get you," Suho patted him sighingly.

I facepalmed myself this time. These guys, no matter how much I loved them, were complete and utter idiots and I thought that hobos living on an ant hill were worse. I am so wrong.

"Hey, stop getting off topic, guys!" I complained. "My date's in less than an hour!"

Baekhyun eyed me.

"Getting so worried... gosh, just be yourself. If she likes you, she likes you, if she doesn't, she doesn't." He said, and I wanted to grab his shirt collar and strangle him.

"You're only saying that because you've never liked a girl before." I shot him a glare.

"Even if I did, I would still think like this," Baekhyun rolled his eyes.

"It's not as easy as it looks." I replied.

"Yeah, I get it, you get the thump in your chest every time you see or hear about her, you can't stop thinking about her, your heart beats only for her... I've heard it all!" Baekhyun mumbled, waving his hand dismissively.

I looked at him with narrowed eyes.

"One day, you'll understand." I challenged.

"Yeah? Well it's certainly not today," Baekhyun replied stubbornly.

"Kris, it's getting close to six," Tao said, pushing my arm.

"Ah? Oh, okay, I should get going then." I sighed, getting off the bed, and fixing my clothes and hair.

"Kris?" Baekhyun called me.

"Yeah?" I asked, still unwrinkling my creases on my shirt.

"Good luck."

I blinked, and looked up, so that I could meet his gaze and I smiled brightly at him.

"Thanks Baekhyun. It means a lot."

"Yeah, no problem. Now go woo... um, that girl." Baekhyun said, furrowing his brow, trying to remember her name.

"It's Eonjeong." I reminded with a small frown, and walk out the room, hearing Lay shout, his voice echoing through the hallway.

"See!? I'm not the only forgetful one here! None of you guys even know... um... that girl's name!"

I sighed, and tried to ignore that, while I walked away.

"Hey Kris," Eonjeong smiled, as she made her way towards me. "Did you wait long?"

"Hi and no, I just came here." I smiled.

"Ah, that's good," she said, relieved.

I nodded.

"Well..." Eonjeong said awkwardly. "Let's go?"

"Ah, yeah, yeah, um, let's go." I held out my hand, and she cheerfully took it. I took a deep breath and sighed it all out. This was gonna be one heck of a date.

"You think he's gonna be okay?" Baekhyun asked, worried.

"Yeah, he's Kris. He should do fine." Chanyeol said, yawning, while waving him off. "I'm going to bed. Tell me what happens in the morning."

Baekhyun smiled. "You know I always do."

Chanyeol grinned back at him.

"And that's what I like about you," he replied, yawning again. Seeing Chanyeol yawn made Baekhyun yawn.

"Well, good night," Chanyeol mumbled.

"Night. See ya tomorrow." Baekhyun waved goodbye.

"I'm tired too," Suho said, dramatically stretching and letting out another yawn. This time, seeing Suho yawn made Baekhyun yawn again.

"Tell me what happens, yeah?"

"I'll report to you in the morning," I replied coolly.

"Night." Suho said, blinking tiredly.

"Night." Baekhyun replied.

"Hey, I'm tired too-" Sehun was about to open his mouth to yawn, but Baekhyun interrupted him.

"Don't you dare yawn. I've yawned like, three times already and I'm not tired," Baekhyun warned.

"Okay, I'll yawn in my room." Sehun said, yawning.

"Hey-" He stopped to yawn. "what did I just say?"

"Sorry Baek," Sehun mumbled back, covering his mouth as he yawned again. "I'm tired.

Baekhyun stared at all of them.

"What did you guys do to make you so tired?" Baekhyun asked, surprised. Instead of a proper reply, Kai just waved him off.

"Hey, you're being loud." He said. Baekhyun shot him a look.

"If you're tired as well, go to your room to sleep."

"Carry me, then," Kai said dramatically, and he puffed out his chest. Baekhyun couldn't help but laugh softly, causing Kai to pout.

"Hey, I'm being serious here." He whined.

"Yeah, yeah, I believe you, but why don't you try carrying  yourself?"

Kai rolled his eyes, but obidiently left the room. Soon, the rest of the members followed, with the exception of Tao.

"I'll stay with you, hyung!" he said sweetly. Baekhyun smiled at him.

"Thanks," I said. "Why don't you sit down?"

Tao obeyed, but after five minutes, he was dead asleep and snoring like a bear. Baekhyun stared at him, annoyed, but chuckled softly, and covered a thick, cotton blanket over him.

Well, I guess I'll just sit here then, all alone with nothing to do, he thought to himself quietly, before staring at the ceiling in boredom.

I laughed at Eonjeong's joke. After a few moments of awkwardness at the beginning of the date, we instantly started to talk and now, we're just walking in the park, after a good dinner.

"Hey... can we talk?" I asked, getting more and more scared. Eonjeong looked at me curiously.

"Yeah, sure. What'd you want to talk about?" she smiled warmly.

"Well, we've been hanging out for a while, right?" I asked.

"Yup," Eonjeong replied.

"And we're like, practically best friends right?"

"Yeah," Eonjeong nodded happily.

"Don't you wanna be anything else?"

Eonjeong suddenly turned red.

"...Well?" I asked, getting really excited.

"W-well, do you want to be anything else?" she asked cleverly.

, just when I thought I had the upper hand in this conversation. I might as well tease a little bit more.

"Hey, I asked you first," I replied.

"U-uh..." Eonjeong wasn't sure how to answer the question and I just laughed at her flustered face.

"Why are you being so mean!" Eonjeong pouted.

"It's not on purpose, I promise. Anyways, I was just wondering if you wanted to... you know... um... go out?" I asked sheepishly.

Eonjeong's face lit up.

"Of course I would! I've been waiting for you to say that ever since we've met!" Eonjeong grinned happily, hugging me tight. I blushed, and tried suppressing a grin, even though I failed.

"Sorry I'm a little late." I managed to say, even though she was squeezing my life away with her hug.

"Or really late," Eonjeong corrected.

"Yeah, that too." I admitted. Once she loosened her death grip, I wrapped my arms around her waist.

"I promise to love you forever and ever." I smiled warmly and Eonjeong blushed.

"You're so cheesy." She said, looking down.

I laughed.

"Okay, okay, sorry." I said. "I won't do that again."

"Ah, no," Eonjeong suddenly said, looking up again. "I didn't mean to say it was bad. Sorry."

She leaned up and gently kissed my cheek shyly.

"Hey, you're the one who's cheesy now," I teased.

"Well you're the one who promised to love me forever and ever." Eonjeong fired back.

"You're right." I smiled.

"Of course I'm right. I'm always right." Eonjeong pouted.

"Yeah, you are." I agreed honestly.

"Aw, I wish I could spend more time with you, but my dad will hate you for keeping me out too late." She frowned.

"Then we'll meet again soon," I answered reassuringly. "The last thing I need is your dad knocking down the palace doors because I kept you after your curfew."

Eonjeong laughed softly.

"Now let's get going," I said, and we released each other from the hug, but held hands the rest of the way.

Once I got home, Baekhyun was practically on me.

"I swear, if you don't tell me what happened, all the guys will never let me see the rest of the day." He said, grabbing my collar.

"Baek, have you been awake this whole time?" I asked, gently removing his hands away.

"Yeah. I've wanted to go to sleep an hour ago, but I needed to get the details from you, and I need to watch Tao so that he doesn't wake up and scream because he thinks he saw a ghost hiding behind the closet door and wakes up everyone like that." Baekhyun turned to Tao's sleeping figure, which look more like his death figure, as his arms and legs stuck out wildly from the blanket.

"And you have no idea how many times I've yawned. Fifty! I've counted, and it's fifty times! If you don't tell me, I will personally be the one to throw you in the ocean faster than Lay's forgetfulness." Baekhyun groaned.

"Alright, alright, I'll tell you," I said, concerned for the guy. I told him everything that happened, and Baekhyun looked at me uninterested at the end of the story.

"That's... it?" He asked.

"Yup." I replied.

"That's it?" he repeated.

"Yeah. That's it," I answered with a firm nod.

"I waited for that bull?!" Baekhyun grabbed my collar again.

"Well, it was much better at the moment," I said, carefully removing his hands away again.

"I'm going to bed! Wake me up in twenty years! I can't believe they made me wait for that!" Baekhyun huffed, before stomping away angrily. I chuckled, and nodded, watching him as he walked away.

"Night!" I called, but not receiving a response.

I looked at Tao, and sighed, not wanting to bother him, in case he'd wushu me while he's half asleep. I just walked into the bathroom and got ready for bed.

Approximately eight months after Eonjeong and I started dating, I had graduated University, and I was told to find a Crown Princess, or just marry the one that was assigned to me since birth, much to my surprise. My immediate thought was to marry Eonjeong, obviously. One morning, I waited for her in the garden, smelling the fresh, cold air.

"You called, your Highness?"

I turned, and saw that it was Eonjeong smiling at me smugly.

"I'm still Kris. Just call me that," I insisted, rolling my eyes at her.

"Alright," Eonjeong grinned widely. "So, what'd you call me for?"

"Please marry me." I said firmly.

Eonjeong's smiling face fell.

"Wha-what? What'd you just say?" she asked, stuttering a bit.

"Please... marry me." I repeated again, but this time, I was less demanding about it.

"Kris, what are you saying? I'm only eighteen... I'm still young. I don't know what I want yet."

My face fell as well.

"So you don't want to be with me?" I asked.

"I do! I do... it's just that... I don't wanna get married. Not yet." Eonjeong said.

"They told me I had to marry now, or else I'll marry someone else." I argued.

"Then marry someone else!" Eonjeong retorted loudly.

I was too shocked to speak.

"Wha-what?" I finally managed to stutter out.

"I said, you should marry someone else. I'm still young and... I can't marry you." Eonjeong said, tearing up.

"This means we can't be together." I pointed out, my heart breaking with every second that passed by.

"I can't... I can't marry you. No matter what... I don't wanna marry anyone yet." Eonjeong whispered. "I'm so sorry. I have to go now."

Then, she ran off, leaving me speechless. I spent a long time getting comforted by the guys. It took a while for me to adjust, but I think I got over her, or at least I'm pretty sure I did. After that whole ordeal, I was suddenly into a whirlind wedding with my now wife, ShinYuri and although she's not Rin Eonjeong and she doesn't share the same relationship that Eonjeong and I once did, she's still here, while Eonjeong isn't, and after Eonjeong came back, I think I've been appreciating her more.

They were different in many ways; Yuri's fiesty, stubborn, reckless, never willing to back down, a donkey, and so many other troublesome traits, and Eonjeong was quiet, sweet, and so many other not trouble some traits, but the main difference is that Yuri's there, while Eonjeong's not. After all, she's the Crown Princess and my wife, and she will always be that.

---

I blinked, sighing. Memories will always be memories, I guess. I took one last look at the foliage that was buried under white snow, before walking away. As I neared a corner, there was a loud ruckus close by, and when I turned the corner, I saw the whole group there, including Yuri. They were lauging and joking around, and not minding anything around them. They immediately noticed me walking towards them, and grinned as I joined their conversation.

"Hey, where were you? We were looking for you!" Xiumin grinned.

"Oh? Why is that?" I asked.

"Cause we wanted to play." Xiumin answered.

Yuri nodded and smiled warmly. Without even thinking, I just grabbed her cheeks, and tugged at them cutely.

"Kr-Kris?" she said, her voice muffled. I let go, realizing what I was doing. "Why'd you do that?" She rubbed her red cheeks with narrowed eyes.

"Because you're an idiot," I teased, sticking my tongue out.

"I am not an idiot, you are!" she argued.

"You're the idiot," I argued back.

"Hey, no fighting, kids," Suho interrupted, patting our backs gently.  I grinned at them all and spent the whole day laughing, talking, and just hanging out.
