Can I Have This Dance? [Discontinued]
“So, you’re ready?” Eunhyuk asked me,
“I’m not sure,” I smiled lightly,
“You’ll do great Teacher!” Kyuhyun cheered,
“Will you guys be there?” I asked,
“We’re allowed to see the auditions. Maybe some of us will, but others have schedules…” Eunhyuk said,
“Yeah… Like me…” Sungmin and Yesung pouted,
“I’ll be there! I’ll come to see you!” Ryeowook said,
“Did you think about what I told you the other day?” Donghae smiled,
“I did. And thanks to my brother I know what I’ll be doing,”
“What song are you dancing to?” Shindong asked,
I smiled and teased them, “If you want to know just come and see,”
“Yah! That’s not fair! I have schedules!” Heechul protested,
“Too bad~,” Siwon teased,
“Well! Better get going or you’ll be late!” Donghae said,
“Okay!”
“You’re sure you don’t need a ride?” Eunhyuk asked,
“No it’s fine I’ll take the bus,”
“Good luck!!”
“Do your best!” they all said,
“We’ll be there soon don’t worry!”
“Thanks” I said,
“See you at the audition!”

“Candidate number 101 to 110 please get ready!” the lady who was in charge of the participants yelled,
I looked at the number on my application form. Still two groups of ten and it’s my turn. I was the first to apply, but they gave us a number according to the time we arrived and confirmed our presence.
All of us were crowded in a waiting room and each group would perform in front of the judges in another room. I could see some people coming out as they finished their audition. Some of them were smiling and confident, others were anxious about weather they did well or not, and then some were crying and yelling in frustration.
My heart was beating like crazy. I thought it was about to jump out of my chest! I started thinking that what I was about to do was a good think or not… Will they think I’m too arrogant? Or will they think I don’t take these audition seriously so I didn’t prepare properly?
Before I knew it, the lady called my group and luckily I’m number 130… (Note the sarcasm). We were leaded to a big practice room. My heart stopped when I saw the judges… One was a gorgeous woman with thin legs and a pretty face. She looked nice, the kind who makes you confortable before beginning. But usually these women are the hardest to impress. Next to her was a big muscular man with big dark eyes who seemed to be really intimidating. You better not mess with him if you want to live. Finally, there was a girl who looked really familiar. Cold poker face and icy fingers interlaced on the table. Kwon Minhwa…My eyes widened the moment I saw her. My heart would’ve raced faster if it was possible and my mind went totally blank…
I’m dead…
We sat on the floor next to the jury and the candidates would perform just in front. There was a camera filming our performances. I was so nervous that I didn’t pay attention to the candidates before me. All I knew was that they were all really good. I was nothing compared to them…
Suddenly, he door opened. Six persons crowded in the room and my face lighted up when I saw the members! Siwon, Ryeowook, Donghae, Kyuhyun and my brother were here. They bowed to the judges and waved at me. But then everyone got up and greeted the 6th person who was a small man around his 50’s, I recognised him only when they said his name,
“President Lee Sooman! You came!” the pretty lady bowed,
He nodded, “I wanted to take a look at how the auditions were going with the boys,” he smiled. He looked nice.
Lee Sooman… the head of the company… Now my heart just exploded. I fixed him with blankie eyes until Eunhyuk pulled me down to seat. I didn’t even notice that the guys had sat next to us while the president sat between Minhwa and the big man.
“Next, Lee Sorin-shi,” the pretty lady called,
I woke up from my daze. Eunhyuk patted my shoulder, mouthing ‘Fighting’ as I got up and walked to the middle of the room with shaky legs. I bowed, “Hello, I’m number 130 Lee Sorin,” I introduced myself. Minhwa shot me a death glare…
“Please give me your CD with the song you’re going to dance to,” she coldly asked me,
“Uhm… Err…” I opened my mouth, “I didn’t bring one,” I said,
Every pair of eyes widened in the room.
“You didn’t prepare a song?” Minhwa asked,
“Well… I was thinking you would give me one,” I said
“You mean you’re going to improvise on a song we pick?” Minhwa raised an eyebrow,
I nodded.
“The rules said to bring a CD, USB or mp3 with a 2 minutes demo for the audition. We can’t let you perform,” Minhwa said, “Please leave,”
Oh God…
The time seemed to have stopped. Her words kept repeating in my head. I’m disqualified…
“I…” I tried to say,
“What are you still doing here? I told you to leave!” Minhwa raised her voice,
I couldn’t move. That’s it? Not even five seconds and I’m already out?
“Call the next group please!” Minhwa yelled,
The other members of the jury stayed silent. There was no other thing to do than obey... I slowly walked toward the exit. Everyone was staring at me. I was about to open the door and walk out when suddenly…
“Divenire,” a voice said,
I stopped my pace and turned to see who spoke.
“Divenire by Einaudi is the song you’re going to dance to for us. Now,” Sooman repeated.
“Neh?” I asked,
“Miss Kim, can you play the music please?” Sooman asked the pretty lady,
“Yes, President,” then the music started,
It took me about a second to realize what happened. He gave me a chance! I bowed to my waist and quickly got in front of everyone again. I sat on the floor, my forehead against my knees, and waited to the right moment to start.
I waved my arms and danced, giving the best of me in my performance. I was given another chance and I couldn’t miss it. I had to win this. The adrenaline pumped in my veins as I forgot about my surrounding and the situation. I moved to the music and wasn’t even thinking about what I was doing anymore. Just like I usually do, I just dance the way I felt like it.
What Hyuk said yesterday night made me realize… I’m better in improvisation. When we used to have dance battle in the backyard, I just randomly danced, not thinking about weather I looked good or not.
I danced until I heard that the volume was getting lower and lower. Maybe they want me to stop. I slowed down and took my final pose.
I stood up and bowed to the jury. President Lee Sooman smiled and got up, “I’ve seen enough for today. Thank you very much,” he walked to the door,
My face lighted up. Does that mean I passed?
The next moment I was taken in a tight embrace, “Oh my God, Sorin-ah! You don’t know how much I freaked out! What were you thinking? Not preparing a CD for an audition? That’s insane!” Eunhyuk yelled in my ear,
“Sorry Oppa! It’s just that you said I was better in improvisation so I thought it would be right for the audition,”
“Right. But still! You got me worried!”
“Sorry,”
“Hyuk-ah! We should go, Sooman is waiting for us,” Donghae said, “Nice job Sorin” he smiled to me and dragged Eunhyuk out,
“You were amazing Teacher! I’m a 100% sure you’ll win this!” he high-fived me,
“Thanks Kyuhyun-Oppa,” I smiled back,
“Did you really dance just like that?” Siwon asked,
“Well… It’s not the first time I dance to this song, but… Yeah I just danced randomly,” I said,
“It was great! I could have sworn that you prepared the performance!” Ryeowook complimented,
“Thanks,”
“Well! See you at home! We have to go!” Kyuhyun said,
They waved at me and left. I also got back to the waiting room with the other contestants. Now we had to wait for the results.

It’s unusual that they immediately announce the participants who passed the audition right after seeing them. But this time they just selected the ones who would get to the second round.
It took so long! I was still nervous about the result, but still less than earlier. Now that the audition is done I was a bit relieved.
Suddenly, the lady in charge of the audition came out with a piece of paper in her hand. On it were written the names of the contestants who could continue the audition next week. She plastered the paper on the wall and the next second, everyone gathered around to see if they passed or not.
I decided to wait a little bit before looking. The ones who succeeded were jumping everywhere while the others just sighted in disappointment. I spotted a guy from my group who was crying and started to get worried because his performance was great!
When the crowd finally faded a bit, I took a pick at the list. 30 persons were admitted to the next round. My eyes followed the names and the more it was getting to the bottom, the more I thought I would die.

She passed? Do you think she passed?
Maybe she did! Maybe she didn’t!
