Characters: Nicole (KARA) & Changjo (Teen Top) ft. Teen Top

“Hmm..”

The male grumbled as he turned to change his position in the king sized bed, now faced towards the back of a sleeping female. Unconsciously, he wrapped his arm around her petite waist and pulled her closer towards him, eyes still close. He nuzzled his face near her neck, earning a quiet giggle in return. Taking a deep breath in, the fresh smell of strawberries from her hair was refreshing. Then he felt her soft hands tracing his, creating a wide smile on his face – she knew he was, without even glancing at him.

In the silence of their bedroom, he couldn’t help but think about how lucky he was to have her. Their first memory was his favorite – where he first fell in love with her.

Changjo.”

He felt his heart skip a beat while his head popped up by the sudden call. Turning his head around to where the low, hushed voice was coming from, Changjo found his friends squatting down near the half opened classroom door. One of them was monitoring the hallways while the others were trying their best to cautiously stick all their heads in the narrow space. His eyes fell upon their backpacks that were over their shoulders as if they were ready to leave. It was study hall, where do they think they are going?

Looking around his classroom for anyone that heard them, fortunately no one did as the class was busy studying.

Furrowing his eye brows, Changjo mouthed, “What are you guys doing?”

The blonde haired friend, Chunji, replied with a mischievous smile, “Going to ditch, come on.”

He saw the heads of his other friends nod along with him, each face telling him to come with them. Contemplating, he bit his lip and looked around at his classmates that were too engrossed in their textbooks to even bother with his noisy friends. Changjo placed down his pencil, sighing in defeat, and began to pack up his materials inside a black backpack. As quiet as possible, he scooted his chair back and placed the bag over his shoulder. He tiptoed his way to the back door where his friends were –luckily he was seated in the back. Taking a glance at the whole classroom, no one moved an inch or seemed to care that a classmate was ditching study hall. Closing the door behind him, Changjo let out a sigh of relief as if a heavy weight was taken off of him.

“Yah, we better hurry or else we’ll get caught earlier than expected,” CAP, the eldest among his group, advised them, his eyes double checking the long corridors.

But Changjo couldn’t help but giggle inside at his cautiousness, it is study hall, no one’s going to be outside –at least they aren’t supposed to be. Plus the teachers won’t catch them. Their room is on the other side of the building. He watched as his Hyungs nodded in sync, agreeing at the suggestion. Maybe I should tell them that there’s nothing to be worried of… Nah, it’s fun seeing them over working themselves.

Changjo trailed behind his friends as they quietly, yet swift fully made their way outside of the school into the back. Ricky, who was the same age as Changjo, brushed off pieces of pebbles on the floor to reveal a silver key. Taking it in his hands, Changjo watched as he passed it on to the purple haired male, L. Joe, who quickly slipped the key in the lock of the back gate.

Once he twisted the knob and the door easily opened, he gestured them, “Hurry up!”

Being in charge of hiding the key again, Changjo was of course the last one coming out so he closed the back gate gently. It was rusty and old since they found it, might as well take care of it before the teachers find out and replace it into something harder to unlock. Trailing behind his friends, they walked down the empty sidewalks, ignoring the stares of passing adults.

“Hyung,” Changjo called out to L. Joe, “where are we going now?” Since he was going with his best friends, there would always be nothing planned after. Once they ditch, then they start thinking about what they should do.

“We’ll be going to a café nearby, now don’t be so uptight. Let’s relax!” the fat lipped friend, Neil, placed his arm around Changjo’s shoulder. Changjo smiled and glanced at his friend’s feet for a second, knowing he was on his tippy toes –being taller than the rest of his older friends.

“Ok, ok,” he simply said, following behind them like a duckling following their mother, actually in this situation –mothers.

After a few minutes of walking, they reached a small café around a street corner that was just a couple of blocks away from their school. The appearance was quite simple, oak wood for the exterior with a couple of floors and windows around the building. Chunji entered the building first, followed by the rest. Just like the outside, the interior gave off a homely vibe that would make anyone comfortable just by walking inside it.

“Ahh Noona!” Ricky happily waved towards a brown haired female that seemed to be reading something behind the counter.

Her eyes moved towards the males, shaping into moon crescents and lips curving into a bright smile. “Annyeong!~” She gestured them to an open table near the windows that displayed the open city streets.

The youngest male locked his eyes at the gorgeous female, who was wearing a pink apron that comforted her feminine appearance. His heart skipped a beat each half of a second that past, it felt like his heart was going to shatter his chest any moment. He only hoped it wasn’t noticeable, hopefully he wasn’t blushing or shaking.

Naturally, they sat down in the assigned table and laid their bags onto the clean hardwood floor. He watched as the female come towards them with a sweet smile on her face, his head unconsciously dropped down to his hands that were under the table.

“It seems like you guys brought new friends this time,” she said, her eyes looking at the two new strangers, but one seemed to be too engrossed onto the floor to even look at her.

Ricky nodded cutely while smiling, and begun to introduce everyone, “This is CAP hyung, the oldest one in the group.” He earned a punch in the arm from the older male, causing him to yelp in pain. “Yah, what was that for?!”

“Can’t you introduce me differently, instead of saying I’m the oldest,” CAP growled, before turning his attention to the amused female. “I assure you I’m not usually like this.” In response, the girl nodded with an understanding smile, eyes still locked with CAP’s politely.

Ricky pouted, lowly muttered, “Yeah you aren’t, you’re usually worse.”

Before the older male could say or even notice anything, Niel jumped in and placed his hand on Changjo’s shoulder, brightly introducing him, “This is Changjo.”

The shy male didn’t bother to look up instead he just gave a small nod and lowly greeted, “Annyeonghassyeo.”

“Yah, why are you acting like this?” Chunji, who was beside Changjo, nudged his shoulder and tried to push his head up but he wouldn’t budge.

“Mianhae, Nicori. He usually isn’t like this,” L. Joe apologized towards the female.

Shaking her head, she smiled and said, “Its ok. I’m Nicole, but you could call me Noona, nice to meet you two.”

“Please treat us well for now on!” CAP politely smiled before asking, “How do you know these four?”

“I met L. Joe at a dance studio that we both attended and since we both spent years in the states, we’ve became close,” she explained. “After telling him where I work, he would come in and brought a few friends which were these three, now it’s you two.”

Everyone nodded in sync, excluding Changjo, who was just listening to the conversation and eyes focused on his forefingers. Yah, what’s wrong with you Changjo!? He just wanted to scold himself.

“So what would you like to order?” she asked, taking out a notepad and pen from her apron pocket.

“We’ll take six lemonades,” Ricky ordered, eyes sparkling at the thought of it.

Giggling at his actions, she said, “Coming right up!” She turned around and was about to head towards the counters but suddenly stopped to shift her body towards them once again. “I forgot to ask,” she made a cute, silly face, “what are your grades?”

“Aigoo Noona!~” Niel and Ricky whined with a childish voice. “Our grades are near the top of our classes, don’t worry.”

“Especially for this guy,” L. Joe arm locked Changjo’s neck, making him look up to make the position less awkward. Cracking a shy smile, Changjo can’t deny his grades. He being part of the high school’s top classes was a great accomplishment, with the addition of being in the top 5. Anyone had to admit, he’s pretty dam smart.

A sweet laugh rung inside the small café, while she displayed the most gorgeous smile he had ever seen. He knew his heart stopped for a second before beating again in a faster pace. Watching as she nodded and made her way towards the kitchen, he felt the arm that was wrapped around him uncoil around his neck.

“She just wants to make sure that are grades are good, after all we’re skipping school,” Chunji stated before Changjo or CAP would question about Nicole.

CAP took off his hat and smoothed out his hair with his free hand. “L. Joe-ah, how come these three know Noona, not Changjo or I?”

“Well I wanted to invite you two also, but Changjo was too busy studying for his advanced classes while Hyung,” L. Joe paused for a second, unsure if he should say it or not, “let’s face it, your grades weren’t the best.”

Hearing that, the older male gave a slight shove towards the latter in response. “I’m way better now.”

“Oww,” L Joe cried in pain, rubbing his injury.

The group of boys began to talk amongst themselves, oblivious to the fact that Changjo is quietly sitting there in daze. Unsure if he should ask or not, his brain was racking on one thought.

“C-chingu,” Changjo hesitatingly called out to L. Joe, who just finished with his conversation with Chunji, “does Noona have a boyfriend?”

He stared at his purple haired friends unreadable, black orbs that were just staring at him. The regret of asking the question was already launched in his brain. In hope, he decided to wait for a few seconds. Maybe L. Joe didn’t know or was thinking about it? But as seconds passed and no one talking, Changjo decided to give up.

“Never-”

“No, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up now,” his friend straightforwardly answered.

“Even though I’m still inexperienced, I can really protect her!” Changjo tried to defend himself, feeling like his pride was slightly hurt.

“That’s not what I meant.”

Then at that instant, they heard the front door open along with the sound of the bell. His blonde friend leaned his head to the side to see who just came in. Once his eyes landed on the figure, a frown formed on his lips.

“That’s what I meant,” L. Joe said in a tone of distaste.

Changjo turned his head to what his friend was talking about to find a handsome, lean male, who was wearing a nice attire. He was making his way to the counters, where Nicole was currently focused on making drinks.

“Annyeong, Nicole!” he greeted with a flirty smile smacked onto his face.

The attractive female just glanced at him, before turning her attention back at the drinks. “Annyeonghassyeo, Jiyong-shi,” she formally greeted him, the complete opposite of how he greeted her.

“Yah,” the male whined, “I told you to call me Oppa and what’s with the formalities?”

With obvious discomfort, Nicole completed her drinks before actually looking the latter. She displayed a polite smile, but it wasn’t one of those smiles that were as bright as the sun. The smile Changjo fell for.

“I don’t think I can do that, Jiyong-shi,” she apologized. “You are, after all, one of our best customers. I can’t just simply do that.”

“I told you that you could though!” he pouted, acting cute.

Changjo raised a brow and turned his body towards his friend, who could easily read what was going through his head.

“There are already three trucks full of people who want her number,” L. Joe explained.

Changjo didn’t know if he should take that seriously or his friend was just exaggerating. Nicole Noona is very attractive, that was the truth, so it is possible for having many men just chasing after her. He may be one of those men soon.

“But, I can always try.”

“Are you sure you want to try? You just met her.”

Changjo grinned, “Ever heard of love at first sight?”

“Ewww someone’s getting cheesy real quick,” L. Joe teased, making a disgusted face.

“Oh shut up,” Changjo shyly laughed, giving a light punch in return. “But you know what I mean.”

Hearing her heels hitting the wooden floor, the sound gradually came closer until it took a halt that told him that she was now standing in front of their table.

“Here are your lemonades,” she cheerfully said while placing the glasses carefully onto the tables. “Sorry if it took so long.”

Chunji smiled and assured her, “Don’t worry, you didn’t take long. Do you want us to do something about him?”

The lass took a quick glance at the impatient male that was sitting on the bar stool. Biting her lip, she was thinking about ways to deal with him. But it seems like this way wasn’t her ideal option.

“It’s ok, I deal with him almost every day so I’m fine,” she answered with a smile. The smile seemed so unsure that it made Changjo worried.

Changjo took a deep gulp before speaking up, “Umm… I’m sorry for being rude earlier.”

Her head turned towards his direction, their eyes now locked together. He could’ve sworn that he felt his heart jump against his rib cage. His eyes watched her angelic features form into a soft, sweet smile that was just for him.

“No worries, I could tell you were just shy,” she said. “Now, if you guys need anything just call me ok?”

Nicole then turned around and walked towards her working station. Changjo eyed the male that was laying his filthy gaze on her innocent image. If only he could just come up and tell him off, but what can he do? He isn’t her boyfriend plus he just met her today.

“Give it a rest,” L. Joe snapped his chingu from dreamland, “if you keep staring at him like that, he’ll be dead in a second.”

Embarrassed, Changjo simply nodded and did what he was told. He began to sip his lemonade when the sudden ring of Ricky’s phone caught everyone’s attention. The males watched him take out his iPhone from his pocket.

“Shoot!” he yelled in panic. “One of my classmates just texted me that the teachers changed the schedule, we are going to have classes today.”

Everyone jumped out of their seats, swearing beneath their breath. They pulled their backpacks over their shoulders and hastily made their way out of the shop.

“Noona, mianhae but we’ll pay you back for the drinks next time!” CAP yelled across the room, following behind everyone else.

Changjo took a quick glance at her before exiting. Her expression displayed astonishment by of course their sudden rush but that wasn’t the reason why his mind was now running like a machine. Nicole’s eyes, they were shaking with glint of desperation. His feet slowed down against the hard pavement until stopping all together.  Deep breaths rushed out his mouth, eyes on the sidewalk.

“Yah, Changjo! What do you think you’re doing?!”

He looked up at CAP, who was still running but his attention towards him. Shaking his head, he bowed apologetically.

“You guys go on without me!”

Changjo turned back and ran towards the café that they just left. His fingers wrapped around the door’s handle and pulled it open to find the male named Jiyong’s hand gripping on the upset female's wrist.

Walking towards them, he pulled Nicole away from the latter before angrily questioning, “What do you think you’re doing?!”

Jiyong made a smug look that just made Changjo wish he could just wipe it off his face. Literally.

“Who are you to even yell at me kid?”

He paused for a second and took a quick glance at the lass in his grasp, staring at him also.

“I’m her boyfriend.”

“Changjo-shi, thanks for getting me out of that.”

Nicole gave him a bag of ice to sooth the sore arm he was massaging. After minutes of yelling and arguing at each other, Jiyong couldn’t take it and decided to make a move. Changjo blocked it and attacked back, which eventually made older male to give up. While blocking the fierce attack, his arm got injured during the process.

“It’s ok,” he cracked a small smile, “as long as you’re alright.”

Hearing those words, Nicole felt her cheeks heating a bit but tried to cover it up with her hair.

“I thought you were leaving with your friends earlier?”

“Well, I decided I didn’t need to go with them at the end.”

“Oh I see…”

There was a dead silence between them, neither one knowing what to say. The sound of the AC blowing in the room surrounded the two.

“Does this happen to you a lot?” he asked abruptly.

A frown formed upon her pink lips as she nodded, “You could say that.”

“Then, do you want me to protect you for today?”

Nicole felt a nudge towards her arm, causing her to be slightly shock. Her chocolate brown eyes landed on her co-worker & best friend, Goo Hara.

“Neh, are you two really going out?” Hara suddenly questioned, eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Cheeks flushed red, she automatically rejected, “Aniyo!~ Wae?!”

A corny smile was smacked onto her friend’s face as she teased, “Oh don’t be so sensitive. Staring at and helping each other the whole day, you guys make it so obvious!”

“But we aren’t going out! He was just being nice and helping me out,” Nicole denied once more.

Hara nodded with a smirk, still not believing what she’s hearing, “If you mean helping you out as protecting, then I absolutely agree.”

Nicole didn’t know what else to say because she was right.

The whole day, Changjo was shooing and blocking all the burdening flirts that she would experience each day. That wasn’t the only thing he did. He would help carry anything that seemed heavy for her and tried to help whenever she felt tired. No matter how much she hated to admit it – it really felt like they’re dating in this short time span.

“See!~” Hara squealed happily. “So do you like him?”

“I don’t, he’s just a kid to me!”

Her heart yelled lie.

“I’m going to take out the trash, just like a kid doing his chores then,” she heard a cold voice behind her.

Turning around, she was face to face to her “protector,” who was carrying a black trash bag and a hard expression. He began to make his way towards the back to throw away the garbage, while her feet were glued to ground and eyes still on him. The image of his face replayed in her mind, her heart dropped.

She sprinted her way to the back and exited outside, Changjo now in her line of sight. He had already thrown away the bag, but decided to stare up at the clear sky.

“Changjo!”

His eyes roamed down to the petite female, a cold smile formed onto his lips.

“Bwoh? I’m not old enough to be outside alone?”

Shocked by the sudden tone of his voice, Nicole shook her head and tried to explain, “That’s not what I meant in there, plea—”

“I like you,” Changjo interrupted her with his eyes tightly locked with hers.

Nicole’s eyes widened, her cheeks burning red. She didn’t know what to respond. Did she like him too? Her mind wouldn’t believe it, she just met him today.

“C-come on d-don’t joke around like that…” she stuttered.

“I’m not joking around.”

“Ey, remember you are younger than me by 4 years.”

“Who cares? There is a line but there are no rules. I’m not young, I know things,” he stated. “If someone touches you, I will protect you.”

She stared at the young male and noticed how he didn’t look like someone who was younger than her right now. What happened to the shy boy she met in the morning? He looked like a real man right now.

Nicole looked down at her toes and shyly confessed, “I may have a little crush on you but I’m not sure if it’s mutual.”

He cracked a smile and said, “If you’re gonna fall for me anyways, just fall for me now.”

Her head slowly nodded as her gaze was still on the pavement, too embarrassed to show him her face.

“I guess I could do that.”

Suddenly she felt his warm big hands cup her face and left her head up so their eyes could meet each other. There was just an inch of space between them, foreheads touching and breaths touching each other skins.

“Good because you’re mine.”

He closed the gap between them. Their lips locked together as the scenery turned into nothing and sounds become mute. Both their hearts were beating quick, feelings both the same.

“Yah, Changjo-ah, are we going to get up or not?” her sweet voice whined.

He responded with a croaky voice, “But I want to stay in this position.”

Unconsciously, a wide smile spread across her lips. Every now and then he would show his childish personality, which was cute. But in the very end, he was still perfect. Even she couldn’t help but think how lucky she is to have someone like him.

“Fine, but if your co-worker calls in about being late, don’t blame me,” she gave in.

“But you are the reason why I want to be late.”

He kissed the back of her bare neck, tickling her. She smiled and turned around so that she would now be facing him. They stared at each other silently, examining each other’s perfect features.

“I love you,” she softly said.

“I love you too,” he sweetly confessed, locking their lips together for a kiss.

Age really is just a number.
