Characters: Nicole (KARA) & Hyungsik (ZE:A) ft. Myungsoo (INFINITE)

Entering the same boring surrounding, it could be black and white but he still wouldn’t notice it for those were the colors he saw every day in his eyes. The eyes that were once filled with sparkles, giving them a sign of life, disappeared. Ever since two years ago, the sparkles weren’t the only thing missing but his soul. No one dared to ask him what was wrong, for the fear of being killed by his unmerciful hands ran them to a corner. Park Hyungsik may be one of DSP’s top spies, infamous for his ruthless attitude and scamming appearance, but he was once a normal human being. Rookies that did not know him before those two years would probably be the most surprise. The male they see every day that always ends up breaking the sand bag after 4 jabs in the training room and his cold attitude, it just didn’t seem true. But he didn’t care for what other’s thought of him, it’s not like their opinion matter in his mind.

Fiercely punching the sand bag, his sweat dripped down his forehead to his innocent face. The room was quiet, sounds of equipment being used and attacks being swung could only be heard. Hyungsik knew that every time he comes in to practice, the others would continue to do their activity but peek at him occasionally in awe or terror; well that’s what his friends always tell him. He heaved a heavy sigh, pulling back his fists to his chest. Particles of sands spread onto the floor adding to the others from before, creating a larger puddle.

“If you keep on breaking our sand bags, we’re going to run out sooner or later.”

A new sandbag was placed in front of his face, carried by an older looking male in a suit. Hyungsik just smirked and took the sandbag from the male’s hand. He replaced it the damaged bag with the new one, taking the remaining bag to the trash can that has already been filled up from the past sandbags Hyungsik had destroyed just minutes earlier.

“How may I help you, Mr. CEO,” he asked in an amusing tone, as if it were challenging the latter. “I haven’t been assign a mission for three months, I doubt I’m getting one any time sooner either,” he began to continue punching the sandbag as if the CEO wasn’t there.

The CEO awkwardly cleared his throat, staring at the sweating male, “Well it seems your predications are incorrect because I have a certain mission that might interest you.” Hyungsik didn’t show any change of reaction for he just continued to punch the target. Reaching in his suit, he took out a folded piece of paper with a photo attached to it by a paper clip. “I need you to remove someone out of my sight after you gather the needed information, because a certain worker failed to do so.”

Hyungsik paused and glanced at his boss then the paper that was held in his hand, waiting for it to be taken. Just taking a quick glance at the photo, Hyungsik couldn’t help but curve his lips into a grin. He grabbed the necessities and placed it in his pants pocket.

“I would gladly like to do it. I’ll finish it in two days.”

His fog breath grew bigger as he continued jogging around the deserted park. The swings creaked, leaves crackled beneath his feet. It was 6AM, the thought of running so early in the morning and cold weather will make anyone think he was crazy. But this was something he got used to ever since she left, just running at a normal time like 8AM where more people and the warm weather grew near reminded him bitter memories that he didn’t want to remember.

“Why are you so slow?” her sweet voiced , making him run faster to chase after her.

Her arms wrapped around her petite waist, bring her body closer to his. “Gotcha,” his lips pulled into a wide smile, whispering in her ear.

The girl giggled and playfully tried to wiggle her way out, but he tightened his grip around her. The two found a bench under a cherry blossom tree to rest from their daily jog. His long strong arm was around her shoulders, their two heads rested against each other as they examined the park in front of them.

“You smell a little Cole,” he teased his partner.

He saw a pout form on her soft pink lips; she was too cute. Trying to remove his arm away from her shoulder, he saw a tint of pink across her cheeks.

“Then don’t put your arm around me if I stink.”

The female managed to remove his tight grip off her shoulders, surprising the latter. Scooting down to the other end of the bench, she crossed her arms in front of her chest while she puffed out her cheeks. He couldn’t help but laugh at how childish she was acting; way too cute.

Her eyes darted glares at him, she said, “What are you laughing at?”

Hyungsik charmingly smiled as scooting his way over to her side. Before she could get up, he locked her arms around her shoulders with their faces just centimeters apart. Her dark chocolate eyes stared in his sparkling black eyes, the silence between them grew.

“I’m laughing at how lovely you are,” he placed a quick kiss on her lips, startling her a bit.

“Yah…” she only managed to say, hiding her face in her two small hands.

He pushed her hands away from her face; their gazes met again locking in with one another. The smile on his face was still the same so was the tint of pink on her cheeks, possibly grew darker.

Using all her might, she tried to push him away from her. “I stink, you said so too,”

“I meant you smell a little like blossoms,” he leaned towards her with a sweet whisper. “I never said you stunk.”

Nicole didn’t say anything but the wide smile that was formed on her face explained it all. Giving him a kiss on the cheek, the couple returned to their original position and stared at the clear sky before them.

He stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, breathing too heavily that he couldn’t run anymore. One of his hands rubbed his temple while the other rested on his knees. The cold touch of his black iPhone made him shiver as it touched his fingers. With his long fingers, he quickly punched in a few numbers before placing it right next to his ear. Just ringing two times, the other person was on the other line.

“Get ready, we’re going to start the mission as soon as I pick you up got it,” he ordered. Not even giving the other person say anything, Hyungsik ended the call in an instant. Shoving his phone back to his sweat pants pocket, he made his way to the parking lot near by, where his black sports car was parked. It was only a matter of seconds it took for him to start the engine and zoom out of the parking lot into the streets.

His long arms were crossed in front of his chest; the look of annoyance became evident so was the constant tapping of the tip of his black shoes and training room floor. He was never a person with a great amount of patience, which was something he was told many times before.

“Sorry for making you wait, I didn’t expect us to go so early,” the familiar muscular voice spoke as a hand touched his shoulder.

Hyungsik turned to face his partner, who was dripping with sweat; most likely in the middle of practicing. Examining him from head to toe, he smirked, “Its fine, but , Jinwoon, please hurry and change. We have to get going since time has been wasted already.”

The male nodded and quickly went to the shower room as he was told to. Hyungsik leaned against an empty wall that was next to a balance beam and waited patiently. He watched the female trainees go up on it, trying their best to keep balance. But the thought of Hyungsik watching them carefully might’ve triggered some nerves for they slowly fell down but landed on their feet perfectly fine. A grin was made with his thin lips, as he continued to watch.

“You just watch, I’ll be able to do it too! It’s just because you’re distracting me right now,” she argued, pouting cutely. Lifting her petite body onto the beam effortlessly, her small bare feet slowly moved forward. The bandages that were wrapped around her right leg from her knee to toes, stood out like a sore thumb. The endless training such as mountain climbing, tree climbing, sparing, etc. made it impossible for her to not get a single injury; which made it unlikely for him not to worry about her.

A frown formed, for the expression of worry spread across his face, “Cole, don’t push yourself too much.”

“I’m not, don’t worry about it!” Nicole assured with a slight tone of annoyance. “Now stop talking to me, I need to concentrate.”

His eyes lay on the back of the female, watching her carefully. Constantly telling her to stop trying, she thought he was teasing her for not being able to do it instead. A half of an hour passed, the lass kept on trying even though her leg has been hurting. She would occasionally fall on the beam or land safely on the cushion mats that were placed on the side.

A loud yelp echoed the room; luckily it was only the two of them; catching his attention. Slowly falling off of the beam, it doesn’t seem like she was ready to land safely on the mat but expected to be face planted instead. Shutting her eyes as tight as possible, she prepared for the worst.

“You have to be more careful seriously,” Hyungsik scolded, releasing a heavy sigh of relief.

The female opened her eyes, finding herself face to face with her boyfriend. His strong pair of arms was wrapped around her body, making her feel somewhat protected. She blushed and looked down to avoid his gaze, “I’m sorry.”

Loosening up a bit, he cracked a small smile and lifted her head up, “It’s alright. I just don’t want you to get hurt. Sometimes your stubbornness could be really bad.”

Her eyes formed into two pretty moon crescent with her lips forming to a wide smile, she nodded. “Gomawo Oppa,” she said, giving a quick peck on the cheek.

“I’m ready, let’s get going,” Jinwoon flattened his black hair down.

Bursting his bubble, Hyungsik nodded and they were off. Exiting the training center into the garage where all the spy cars are located at. Taking the quickest one, they sped out of the building and onto the deserted streets. His heart raced for the thought of seeing her again made him nervous as well as the fact he gets to see his rival once again…. Kim Myungsoo…

The strong contact with his rival’s knuckles and his head injected enormous amount of pain, his body collapsed onto the concrete ground with his hand pressed against his throbbing head. His eyes landed on the couple who were pointing their guns just a foot away from his face. Hyungsik never expected to be in this kind of situation, he thought it would be the other way around.

“Well aren’t you going to shoot?” he asked bitterly, with a forced smirk on his handsome face.

He continued to watch as the female squatted down to his level and suddenly reaching her arm out towards him, causing him to wince back in shock. Then the same gentle smile that he always loved appeared on her gorgeous face, the touch of her warm fingers came in contact with his cheek.

“Hyungie,” she spoke, but that one word made the inside of him warm, “I really treasure all those times I’ve created with you and right now I will treasure this last moment. For now, I want you to be happy with someone that is rightly yours. You are someone that I care for deeply even now, but right now seeing you like this doesn’t pain just you but me also.” Even though she had just started to speak, he didn’t want to hear anymore, his hand gripped onto hers tightly. All those words that were coming out of were lies to him, he wanted them to be. “Since this is our last goodbye, remember I want you to be happy even if I’m gone.” He saw her partner nudging her, a thin line formed on his lips. “Goodbye and I’m sorry,” she apologized before using the dull end of her gun to knock her ex out.

The sound of glass shattering filled the couple’s house, echoing through the thin walls to every single room. Their intense gazes added with the atmosphere in the kitchen, small glass particles were spread across the floor between the two, like a define line of separation. The female and male didn’t want this to happen but with their anger boiling up it’s impossible to stop it from coming out.

“What’s really going on between you too?!” he questioned with a voice filled with anger. All her past answers did not satisfy him, it just made his anger and suspicion increase.

Her fierce glare pierced him as she curled her fist in a tight ball. “I’m telling you the freaking truth, there is nothing between us! I have to complete the mission the way it was planned out what do you expect me to do?! I can’t kill him immediately,” she sharply responded, her voice increasingly getting louder.

Arguments likes these were occasional and were always resolved at the end but this one seemed different. It has been five months since Nicole had received this mission and Hyungsik was perfectly fine with it as long as the person he loves does not get stolen away from him. Nicole and Myungsoo’s progress seemed to have improved greatly; their constant messaging and interactions grew. With this, it wasn’t hard for it to test Hyungsik’s sense of doubt and trust.

“Then stop texting him and meeting with him more than we do now!” he demanded, his fist slammed against the wooden covers.

“He’s the one texting and inviting me out. If I don’t agree to them, he’ll think something is up and find out about the plan. Why can’t you trust me?”

“But still,” he gritted his teeth, “the constant interaction is just annoying me. Do you know how many times I have to convince myself that nothing is happening? Every time you talk or come back from meeting him, you try to hold back your smile.” He heaved a deep sigh, ruffling his black hair. “Can’t you ignore his texts or calls once in a while when we are together?!”

Taking a step back, she shook her head and replied, “Why are you being so delusional lately? You know our jobs are always important so I can’t just ignore him so easily. Why can’t you trust me like him?” Nicole quickly realized what she had said; she covered with her hand.

“Him?!” his voice rose, as well as his eye brows. “Well sorry for not being Kim Myungsoo.”

He saw tears forming on her eyes, she constantly shook her head. “That’s not what I meant,” she tried to ease the situation, something she would always try to do when she knew she did something wrong.

“I know what you meant, so why don’t you just go back to him!” he yelled, anger rushing through his body. “We are over.”

Tears rolled down her cheek, those last three words that came out of the latter’s mouth shattered her fence that locked these embarrassing tears. “P-please don’t joke around like that,” she stuttered, gathering as much hope she could possibly muster up.

“I’m serious, get out of my face now!” he stated with his eyes stern as ever. “I can’t even stand to speak nor see you right now.” He felt her hand resting on his shoulder and heard the quiet plead from her also. Pushing her hand away, Hyungsik glared, “I said leave!”

Biting her pink lips, she turned and was about to make her way down the cold hallways before she stopped in the kitchen door way. Taking a last look at him, she spoke, “Fine I will do as you say, but not because you said so but I want to. I knew you could be a jerk but I never expected you could be a jerk that could make me hate you.” With that said, she walked down the empty hallway into their bedroom to pack her stuff.

Hyungsik leaned against the countertop, rubbing his temples in frustration. Those words stung his heart but he knew it was partly his fault because of that. He listened to the sound of a suitcase and bags being zipped up as well as the loud slam of their front door being closed. Staring at himself in the window that was fogged up from the morning mist, he punched it creating a large crack as well as a cut on his hand.

“Now matter how much you don’t know, why don’t you know my love. It’s all over now.”

His eyes slowly fluttered open, he found himself staring at a hospital ceiling including the sound of loud footsteps in the corridors. Looking around him, he found flowers placed beside him as well as a gift basket filled with fruits.

“You’re finally awake,” a familiar voice spoke. Hyungsik’s eyes looked around and saw the male in a black suit seated across from him. He was about to get up so he could comfortably see him, but the male gestured him to lie down instead of sitting up. “It’s ok, you have to lay down since your injury hasn’t fully healed yet.”

Hyungsik continued to stare at the white ceiling in front of him; he finally began to apologize, “I’m sorry for not completing the mission you gave me.”

“It’s fine, you have done so much for the agency already. Not completing this kind of mission is not a big deal; compared to your other missions I always give you. For now, I want you to rest and recover physically and emotionally,” the CEO instructed. “After you are done, you may come back and train once again.”

A week has passed and Hyungsik was discharged out of the hospital but he has yet fully recovered especially emotionally. He walked down the hallway and into the kitchen when the strong cold breeze touched his skin. Searching for the source of the cold breeze, he realized it was just from the cracked window he always failed to remember to fix. Getting a quick glass of water, he made his way down to his room that was messy as usual. Sitting on the edge of his mattress, he took a gulp of his water before placing it on the counter beside his bed. He noticed something sticking out under his lamp; it was only reflex to grab it. Observing it, he remembered it was a picture that the CEO gave him before. It was a photo from 4 years ago during his birthday and when he was still with Nicole happily; his arms was around Nicole and the two were smiling cheerfully like any normal couple. He flipped it over and read the writing she wrote at the back. Always smile he read.

After some thought, Hyungsik knew what was best and got up from his bed. Grabbing a box that was hidden inside his closet beneath a bunch of clothes and a lighter, he exited out of his room making his way to the front door of his house. Pulling his shoes on, he closed the door behind him and entered the warm afternoon air. Hyungsik set the box onto the ground and opened it up exposing the endless amount of photos that just reminded him of bitter memories. Picking a random photo from the pile, he stared at the two faces that he failed to recognize. His same smile that she once loved and the charming smile that he once loved didn’t seem to be familiar to him anymore. Flickering the lighter a few times, a flame appeared. He placed it near the end of the photo, watching it catch a large flame. It slowly burned, gradually erasing the female from the picture and soon the male also. Taking one last look at the pile before him, he took a deep breath and dropped the flaming photo into the box. The small amount of smoke was replaced with a large amount, filling the air with its strong scent. His eyes did not leave the sight of his burning memories; he watched it grew bigger until there was no longer anything else left.

“I still feel you, so I tried to extend my arm to hold you but I guess it was just a dream. Burn it up, all the memories that were my life. Love is gone, love is gone. All like dust.”
