Jongup 14

B.A.P. Oneshots

The music was loud and you were proud of your bias. The crowd was cheering and everyone was clapping for him. You smiled to yourself. You always took it personally when people cheered for your bias. It just sort of stunk that he didn’t know you existed. Life of a fangirl.

You had waited really patiently for him to show up. You loved B.A.P. but Jongup was especially close to your heart. The two of you have grown up together for the first eight years of your life before your parents moved you to America. You were too young to remember how to keep in touch.

Jongup had been an innocent boy. He was always smiling and back then, moved at a pace that was too relaxed for the world. He had been hyper on the playground, but when he was at rest, he was just a small kid taking in his surroundings.

You didn’t know why of all the people you’ve met, you remembered him. But there was something about the way he played with you that made him stick in your memory. Years later, you moved back to Korea and now you heard that Jongup was a dancer.

It was funny because back in second grade, when the teacher asked Jongup to dance, he had cried. He was too shy and didn’t want to, he had said.  You could recall him crying and shaking his head. If memory served correctly, you had sat next to him and told him how good he was at dancing. You had convinced him that he was good at it and that you had wanted to see him dance.

Jongup had lit up that day and asked in his squeaky voice, “You want to see me dance?” You nodded and he raised his hand in a timid manner. “Teacher? I can do the dance.”

The teacher had been thankful and you were pleased with yourself. Even back then, he had talent. He was doing flips and spins on the stage, copying the dancers he saw on television. Jongup had thanked you after, telling you that he had a lot of fun and it was all because of you.

You set your tripod down. You had paid good money to buy yourself an entire row so no fans could interrupt you while you filmed. You were pretty close to the stage and had a great view of the performances. From what you’ve seen of Jongup, he still looked like himself. He still had an innocent look to him but he has become attractive. From a mere shy boy nine years ago, he was now grown and well-built.

His performance on stage had been fierce and very out there, but during member introductions, it pleased you to note that he was still shy. His introduction had been a lot of mini bows and tilting of his head. When he smiled, his eyes still went up like crescents. Yep, he was still the adorable Moon Jongup from your childhood.

You were glad to see him finally fulfill his dream. The year when you left, he had started taking dance classes at the local hip hop dance studio. He wasn’t interested in ballet and classical dances and focused on what was rapidly becoming popular, b-boy dancing. You were proud to see that he had honed in on his talent.

The announcement came on and you started to adjust the settings on your camera. “Next up is Moon Jongup’s solo.”

Your heart skipped. You wanted to film him and hopefully post the best quality video. You had obtained his e-mail address from an old friend but were too chicken to use it. The stage was dark and then smoke filled the platform. Bass beats pounded through before changing to a softer tune. You recognized this as Michael Jackson’s song.

A single spotlight came on and through the mist, you could see Jongup. He was dressed in a suit jacket and was doing the famous pelvic dance. You followed him carefully, swerving your camera to catch the best possible angle. Then the song changed and he took off the jacket.

He did another quick dance before the stage lit up and backup dancers came out. A Chris Brown song came on. You shook your head in amusement. Jongup would be consistent. You knew about his admiration for the American artist through the profile pages that you had looked through.

His dancing was slowly becoming more sensual and you laughed. It was nice to see that he was breaking out of his shell, at least for the fans. Jongup’s dancing was smooth and you muffled your cheers to keep the video from catching any noise.

When he ripped off his shirt, you couldn’t help it. You clapped along with the rest of his fans. He really had grown up so much. The crowd started to chant, “Moon Jongup, Moontos! Moon Jongup, Cheetos!”  You chanted along, knowing this would be a perfect backdrop to your video.

During a routine, he came to your side and almost as if noticing you, he beckoned with his finger. The proximity of his being to you was almost overwhelming. Jongup was right there. You must have stood out, a girl with a camera in a lonely row amidst a filled stadium.

But then he moved to the other side and you could breathe again. When the entire showcase ended, you went home and edited the video. You posted it on Youtube and immediately received a hundred watches. Your finger hovered hesitantly over the send button of your e-mail. You closed your eyes, took a deep breath and tapped it.

“E-mail sent,” the notification popped up.

Jongup’s phone let off a tiny ping, his e-mail notification was going off. He clicked on it, tired but wondering who could e-mail him. It was an unknown e-mail but there was a link. Checking to see if it was a virus, he then clicked on it.

It was an excellent quality video of his performance. The audio was perfectly filtered as well. At the end, there was a snapshot of a girl and the words, “I’m glad to see that you’ve overcome your fear, Uppie~ Congrats on your debut ♥”

It wasn’t signed and Jongup had to place the face. He recalled the girl during the concert then the familiar eyes and curve of her cheeks hit him. He smiled and pressed the reply.
