Daehyun and Youngjae have been best friends since forever. At least, all of Youngjae’s life. It started with Daehyun’s mother. She was nine months pregnant and shopping at a grocery store when she accidently bumped into another pregnant woman. The two of them knocked over watermelons and when the latter bent to pick one up, she placed it next to Mrs. Jung’s stomach.

            “Looks about the same size,” she joked. “Maybe you’re actually having a watermelon and not a baby boy.”

            Mrs. Jung had laughed and took a smaller watermelon. “Then I hope you are also having a fellow watermelon because then our two watermelon sons can be best friends.”

            They were there for each other, the two women, at each of their births. And Daehyun, at a few months old was already acquainted with the not yet born Youngjae.

            Once Youngjae was born, however, Daehyun rejected him. He avoided the crying baby as much as he could, crawling as fast as he can away whenever he heard the wails start up. But slowly, as Youngjae grew older and began to walk and talk, Daehyun accepted him.

            The two of them were terrors together. Youngjae was the brainier of the two and could talk himself out of anything but Daehyun was the mischievous one. He came up with the pranks and when they get caught, relied on either his charms or Youngaje’s talking to get them through.

            When they went through school, they realized they both had the same ambition. Both of them wanted to be singers. So they trained together and eventually, became members of B.A.P together.

            They were doing an interview for Show Champion for their “One Shot” promotions. “Which member got the strongest so far? It’s a hard dance.”

            They all looked at Jongup but he shook his head. “The one who really got strong would be Daehyun-hyung.”

            At this, everyone clapped and Youngjae laughed. “That’s because all he does these days is go to the gym.”

            Daehyun covered his face in embarrassment and the interviewer encouraged him to show them. “Jongup, you and Daehyun should have a pushup battle. In sixty seconds, let’s see how many each of you can do.”

            Jongup got onto the floor and easily came out with forty-five. They clapped when he got up and he blushed modestly. “Daehyun, please step forward.”

            The vocalist turned bright red and got onto the floor. He started off slowly but Yongguk and Youngjae began to encourage him. “Come on, a little faster!” Daehyun let out a tiny groan but started to move his arms faster.

            Youngjae quipped, “All that food he’s eaten is really getting put to work. Look at that.”

            Daehyun stood up and stretched his arms. Youngjae screamed. “Daehyun, you idiot! You still have more time!” The older boy’s face turned into one of shock and he jumped back down. Youngjae leaned forward and patted his . “Hurry up! Hurry up! You can do it!”

            “Fifty-eight, fifty-nine, sixty!” Daehyun staggered to his feet and he let out a groan. Jongup clapped him on the back.

            “Wow, Daehyun you really improved!”

            The members clapped heartily for him and he said, “Because Himchan-hyung isn’t here, I’ll dedicate this to him. Come back soon!”

            After the interview was over, Youngjae walked over to Daehyun with a sly look. “Let’s see how much you really improved. Get down and start doing pushups.”

            Daehyun raised an eyebrow. “I just did sixty of them! My arms are going to fall off.”

            Youngjae pouted. “Just do it!”

            But his best friend shook his head stubbornly. “Nope. Do you know how much more I have to eat in order to gain back all the energy I just lost?”

            Youngjae puffed out his cheek. “I’ll cook for you!”

            Daehyun laughed. “The last time I ate your cooking, I had severe indigestion for a week. Nope.”

            Youngjae went closer to Daehyun and blinked his wide eyes. “Okay, how about I get my mom to make your favorite meal?”

            This stopped Daehyun’s inherent head shaking. “Wellll, tonight?”

            Youngjae nodded fervently. “Yeah, yeah, tonight.”

            Daehyun sighed. “The things I do for you,” he muttered.

            Youngjae blushed. “The things you do for food, you fatie,” he insulted. Daehyun started to go down, forming the ninety-degrees with his elbows and coming right back up.

            At his tenth one, Youngjae carefully sat on Daehyun’s upper back, avoiding the lower as to not hurt him. Daehyun stopped. “Keep going! If you can carry me along with your weight, then you’ve truly mastered pushups.”

            Youngjae saw Daehyun shake his head and kenw that his best friend was probably muttering insults under his breath. Youngjae adjusted his seat and applied a little more pressure with every pushup until Daehyun stood up, knocking him over.

            “Ya, Yoo Youngjae! You’re going to owe me twenty meals after this!”

            Youngjae snarled. “Just trying to help you train. Ungrateful.”

            Yongguk stuck his head back in. “Children, we’re heading back,” he warned them.

            Daehyun glared at Youngjae and the two of them walked out, still bickering. The leader shook his head. Just another typical day in the life of Daejae.
