Jongup knew that his son liked to play hard to get. It was the universal truth that sons almost always preferred their mothers and Jonghae was no different. Even though Jongup donated half of his DNA, and was the other half of the haploid that made this little critter possible, the boy just didn’t appreciate. At least not yet. It was also true that most sons need their fathers more as they get older. So Jongup had time.

            But right now, he was the single most frustrated new father in the entire universe. He made it a point to play with Jonghae every night, to dance for him, to play games with him and still the little boy refused to respond.

            At only seven months old, Moon Jonghae already knew how to get all the ladies in his palm. His wife was naturally head over heels but even the wives of the other B.A.P members loved him beyond imagination. He got along well with s but he refused to even look at Jongup sometimes.

            This child is a mercenary. He would come crawling to Jongup, would cry and hug him only if he wanted something, and had an ulterior motive. But it was okay too because Jongup loved his son unconditionally and he believed that time will change things.

            So on the day when they brought their children to work, Jongup was excited. Maybe if Jonghae saw how cool his daddy was, he may just be proud. But it also worried him. What if Jonghae didn’t respond at all and everyone thought Jongup was a terrible father?

            “You’ll be fine. He just wants extra attention from you and already he knows that if he ignores you, you’ll pay more attention to him.”

            “Hey! That’s not fair. I would love him and dote on him even if he called me daddy every day.” He stamped his foot, a bit indignant.

            His wife kissed his cheek and fixed his collar. “Yes, I know. Forget I said anything okay? Don’t worry. Jonghae loves you. He’s just a bit shy. Either that or he’s more of a ladies’ man.” She laughed and pushed him out the door. “I left the lunch bag on the kitchen counter and Jonghae’s supplies are all in that big blue bag.”

            Jongup gathered everything and placed it in his car then walked back in for his son. Jonghae was happily pulling on his teddy bear and only looked up when he was suddenly lifted from the ground. His face puckered and Jongup swung him around slowly.

            “Noo, baby don’t cry,” he sang. Jonghae pushed a palm into Jongup’s cheek and rested his head against his shoulder.

            Jongup strapped the baby into the baby seat and made sure his son was settled in and comfortable before getting into the driver’s seat. He would occasionally look into the rear view mirror and smile at his son. Jonghae had fallen asleep and a tiny patch of drool was wet around his chin.

            When they got to the headquarters, Jongup gently woke him up and took him from the chair. Jonghae kicked a little but Jongup held on. He juggled the baby and the bags. Hyosung opened the door for him as he struggled to get in.

            “Aiya, his hair is all up. He looks like Donald Duck,” she clucked and smoothed his hair down. Jongup blushed when Jonghae made smacking noises with his lips and gurgled. This boy was too young for these flirtatious actions.                      

            “Come on, little man. Hyosung is an auntie.”

            Jongup placed Jonghae in the play pen, a little worried because he was the youngest one there. Youngjae placed a hand reassuringly on his shoulder. “Don’t worry. One day our Junhong will have a kid and Jonghae can be a hyung. But he’s playing just fine.”

            Secret and the other female workers at the company spent their time cooing over the babies and taking care of them. When it came to lunch time, Jongup strapped Jonghae to his chair. He banged his spoon around like any of the others but when Jongup placed the bowl of food in front of him, he turned away.

            He refused to look at Jongup. “Jonghae-ah, come on. A growing boy needs to eat a lot so you can be tall like Junhong and strong like appa. Come on,” he coaxed. He waved the spoon in front of his mouth but Jonghae still looked away.

            Jongup sighed and brought up a toy car. “Here, will this make you happier?” The little boy touched the car and rolled it for a second before looking away again. Jongup felt near tears. It was never like this. What was going on?

            He looked over and saw that everyone was getting their kids to eat. “Look, Youngsuk-hyung is eating well. Look at how much he’s eating,” Jongup pointed at the kid next to him. Jonghae’s nose scrunched and he looked at Jongup and held up his arms.

            Jongup picked him up and automatically, his mouth opened. Sunhwa looked over and laughed. “Jonguppie, your son is the pickiest. He wants to be held when he’s fed.”

            Jongup laughed a little and carefully tipped the spoonful of mush into Jonghae’s mouth. The baby ate happily and once in a while even offered Jongup his rare, beautiful smile. When he was finished, he stuck out his tongue and turned over in Jongup’s arms, promptly falling asleep. Jongup smiled affectionately at the little bundle of joy in his arms.

            One day, Jonghae will realize how much he needs his daddy. And one day is already starting. His eyes misted as Jonghae’s tiny hands d around to hold onto his father’s little finger. The infant sighed in content and continued to sleep.
