Chap 23
The Tutor
“How’s your honeymoon?” Doojoon said evilly
“Honeymoon your . We just went to check about her sickness” I raised my eyebrows
“Don’t lie, hyung. Hongki called me and said you borrowed his bike” – Yoseob
“Psf, I just rode her around some places and ate” I defended
“That’s honeymoon” – Kikwang
“Whatever… Be quite. Let her sleep” I signaled them to go away when I noticed Hyuna’s face grimaced a little bit
“Yeah, yeah, as your wish” my friends laughed before walking away
“Hyuna-ah, wake up… Teacher comes” I shook her body lightly as she rubbed her eyes and sat straight up
“Hi class…Oh, Hyuna! Why are you still here?” Mrs. Park’s question shocked me
“What do you mean, teacher?” I asked
“You haven’t known. Mr. Jaehyun has come and he’s talking to the principal about transferring Hyuna to another school in Seoul” Mrs. Park answered and Hyuna and I were stunned
“Is… Is he still here?” I managed to say
“Yeah, I think so. I just saw him talking with principal on the way to here”
“Hyuna!!... Excuse us, teacher” I ran after Hyuna who just stood up and ran out.
“Hyuna…” I called her when she stopped but then I noticed someone was in front of us. Mr. Jaehyun
“Why are you still wearing that uniform?” he said coldly
“Sir, you can’t do this” I spoke realizing her profile was in his hand
“I have told you, Junhyung… Hyuna!!” he shouted because she took her profile away from him
“Fine. Take it if you want. The principal won’t accept it again. Study your last days, we’ll leave next Monday” he left without waiting for her response
“Hyuna-ah…” I saw her cry
“It’s okay. It’ll be okay. I’ll find a solution” I hugged her
“Noona, is that true? Hyuna’ll leave with you next week?” I called Hana noona after letting Hyuna lying on the bed in the clinic since Hyuna didn’t feel good
“I think so. He just called me. How’s Hyuna?”
“She’s shocked a little bit. She’s sleeping. He told me before but he said February not this month”
“Try to convince him or something. I told him that I have to go aboard with Jiho from tomorrow until next week so he can’t bring her here after next week”
“Yes, I’ll try. I have to go, bye noona” I hang up seeing Hyuna wake up
That week passed quickly. Because of pills Seungho hyung gave, Hyuna’s always tired as she lies on the bed feeling sleepy all day. Lying too much is not good for her health and I don’t want her think too much about the transfer so I make her play some games with me on the sofa. She’s sitting in my embrace while her body is resting on mine. My hands are crossing around her neck and my chin’s leaning on her shoulders. We’re playing some quizzes on the newspaper. On the other side, Joe’s resting and watching TV. Yes, he’s watching TV, he even can change the channels if he doesn’t like. Don’t be surprised at him anymore.
“Woa~ You finished the Sudoku?” I was amazed as she nodded
“Why did you finish so fast? Now we’re run out of games~” I whined as she chuckled
“Hey, what’s wrong?” I was worried because her eyes suddenly looked sad
“Don’t worry. I won’t leave you. Joe won’t leave you” I rubbed her hair and Joe knew something wrong as he ran to lie on her lap
Seeing Joe makes Hyuna smile. She bends down and rubs his head by hers while his tail is waving in air enjoying her rub.
“Don’t be sad, okay?” I forced her to look at me as she gave me a smile. Yes, I’m quiet jealous with Joe so…
Somehow her lips attract my eyes as I lean in and capture them with mine. It’s a long kiss but not dirty like in some American movies. Sometimes we break the kiss and smile at each other before kissing again.
“I think we should find something for you to eat” I laughed after hearing sound from her stomach and she hit my chest lightly
“Go change. We’ll go out to eat” I tapped her back and she did what I said
“So full~” I commented after eating at a small restaurant
Seem like Hyuna and Joe haven’t been full so they still have strength to play. She makes some snowballs and throws at him. He runs away, she chases after him. It must be very fun to her since her wide smiles keep appearing on her face. Suddenly, something bad happens when she’s crossing the street to catch up with him. I see him running back to her quickly and pushes her making her fall on the other side. Then a car hits him immediately as his body is flown and hit a traffic light before landing on the ground. It happened too fast that I couldn’t do anything except standing still.
“Hyuna!! Are you okay?” I ran to Hyuna
Thanks to the snow, she doesn’t get hurt. But seeing her eyes get teary, I turn to the direction she’s looking and see Joe’s lying on the snow with a lot of blood around him. She gets away from my grip and heads to him right away. She kneels down and carries him in her arm not caring about the blood.
“Please send an ambulance. An accident just happened” I called the hospital before going to Hyuna
“J… Jo… Joe-ah…” my eyes went round hearing her calling Joe’s name
“Hyuna-ah…” I didn’t know what to do except wiping her tears
“Joe-ah, wake up, don’t scare me, it’s not funny” she said the whole sentence while I was quite shocked. She speaks?
“Please don’t leave me~ Umma left me, Byungie left me, appa left me. You can’t leave me, Joe-ah” she hugged him tighter
“Ur…” Joe opened his eyes weakly
“Joe, you can’t leave me. We have a promise, remember? You can’t leave me until appa forgives me…” Hyuna cried harder
“Please~ Stay with me” she pulled him up as his blood was on her face, her arms, everywhere
Like before, he uses all his strength to pull himself up to her cheeks for wiping her tears. One of his legs keeps tapping her chest where the heart is until his leg falls down and his eyes are closed
“Joe-ah!! Joe!! Don’t!! Please don’t!!” she shouted
“Hyuna-ah…” I hugged her from behind
“Oppa, what’ wrong with him? Why his eyes aren’t opened anymore? He can’t leave me like this. He can’t…” she looked at me with her teary eyes
“Hyuna-ah… Let him go…” I tried to take Joe’s body away from her
“NO. He’s just sleeping. He won’t leave me until I allow him” Hyuna protested
“Hyuna-ah, Joe doesn’t like you being like this…” I wiped her tears and the ambulance arrived. It came too late.
“AAAAAAAAAA…” she screamed before fainting
“Hyuna!! Hyuna!! Please help!!” I waved at the nurses as they approached us
They pull Hyuna away from Joe. One of them put him in a bag while the others carry her to the ambulance and I follow them. When we arrive the hospital, they push her into emergency room as I’m blocked outside.
“Hyuna… Hyuna… Please be alright…” I mumbled to myself walking backward and forward continuously
“Doctor, how’s she? Is she okay?” I rushed to the doctor right away after he walked out from the emergency room
“Let’s come to my office. I have something to tell you” he made his way to his office as I sensed something not good happened
“Please take a seat” he said and I did
“What’s wrong with her, doctor? She’ll be alive, right?” I was scared losing her
“Uhm… At the moment, yes… But…”
“But?”
“She got critical heart attack. She’s unconscious. She need to change her heart. We use machines to help her breathe”
“So do the surgery. Why don’t you…”
“It’s not that easy. We need to transfer her to a bigger hospital, we need an acceptance from her family and a suitable heart from her” the doctor shook his head explaining
“Why can’t we do here? Acceptance? Her sister’s not in Korea at the moment. Can you just skip that part and do the surgery?”
“I’m sorry but we can’t. This hospital doesn’t have enough equipments to do such a big surgery like heart surgery. And if something bad happens to the patient, patient’s family may sue us and the hospital may be shut down. We can’t take that risk. Besides, the payment of the surgery is huge. I know you can’t afford it. No one in this town can except Mr. Jaehyun”
“You know her father?”
“Of course, I know him. Who doesn’t? So I think you should contract him or call her sister back”
“Can… Can I visit her now?” I was speechless
“Yes, you can. She’s in the special room”
“Oh, Junhyung…” I dialed Seungho hyung’s number. He may know how to contact Hana noona.
“Hyung…” I spoke tiredly
“Yes? What’s wrong?”
“Can… Can you call Hana noona back?”
“Wae? ... Please don’t tell me something has happened to Hyuna?”
“Hyung…Joe died, Hyuna’s conscious. Doctor said we have to transfer her to another hospital. He said she has to change heart” I collapsed on the floor
“WHAT? When? Why did that happen?”
“About an hour ago. The road was slippery as a car lost control and…Joe prevented it from hitting Hyuna…”
“I get it. I’ll try to call Hana and come there as soon as possible. Report me if something strange happens with her condition”
“Nae, hyung” I said as he hang up the phone
Hyuna’s lying on the white bed with a lot of machines around her. Why did this happen? Few hours ago, she just played with me and Joe. Why everything happened so fast? Everything turns blurry to me as something hot falls down from my eyes. Am I crying? I don’t know. I don’t care. What I care now is how to save the girl I love. I don’t know what to do. There’s no way out. Hyuna, please don’t leave me.
