Chapter 17-Fever
I the light and something glitters.
I went up close and grabbed it, it was a frame.
I looked closely and saw Lay with Lilac
I gasped. Why? Why is there a picture of them together.
Tears came out of my eyes...No it can't be her...why?
The frame slipped from my hand and dropped to the floor.
The glass broke and cut my hands.
At that same time Tao came out wearing a robe
"What are you doing?" Tao said
"Uh..."
He looked at the floor and then at me
"Oh my god...you broke Lays picture frame!"
"I didn't mean to...it was an accident"
"Lays going to be angry if he sees this"
"Why?"
"Cause the frame was given by his girlfriend"
"The girl in the picture?"
"Yeah, who else"
Oh no...so Lilac was really Lays girlfriend.
I tried picking up the pieces but it cut my hand again.
"Ow"
Tao came closer and grabs my hand.
"Come"
He drags me to the bathroom and seats me on the toilet.
He takes out the first aid kit and a wet cloth.
He wiped my hands and took out the rubbing alcohol.
"It's going to sting a bit"
He slowly rubbed the alcohol on my cuts and wrapped it in a bandage.
"That picture frame is very important to Lay.It was the last thing she gave him before she...left"
She didn't leave him...she was like me...she was abducted.
Tao shakes his head
"It's been 6 years, he still thinks she'll come back"
She's not going to come back...she's dead.
I looked around and noticed that the washroom was steamy and warm
"How come you used Lay's bathroom?"
"Oh...Kris is using ours"
Tao stares down at me and I realize he's just wearing a robe and nothing else under.
I look away...but I feel his hands on me.
He's still holding my hand...
I tried to pull away but that just made him come closer.
"Minnie ah...I..."
I turned my body and forced myself away from him
"I should pick up the glass before Lay sees it"
I got up and Tao looked like he wanted to say something, but changed his mind
"No...I'll do it...I don't want you to get hurt again"
He slowly walked away with his head down
What's up with him? He's acting weird all of a sudden.
I looked at my wrapped hands. It was wrapped tightly and nicely.
I walked out to the bedroom and saw Tao picking up the shards.
"What should we do? Do they still sell this frame?" I asked Tao
"No, they don't....but it's okay...it's just the glass front that broke not the frame..I'm sure Lay Hyung won't notice"
I'm glad that he won't notice...but I've been wondering...did he ever look for Lilac? What happened between the two of them?
Should I tell him the truth?
Would it make him feel better that she didn't leave him by choice?
Tao took the glass and place it into the trash can.
"Oh yeah...Minnie, were you looking for Lay?"
"Not in particular...I was looking for you and the others. Xiumin got lost and separated from Lulu and them, we bumped into each other and now we just want to let you guys know we're okay"
"Really? Why couldn't Xiumin call them?"
"I don't know...Lulu didn't pick up his phone"
" That's weird. He always answered his phone though"
"Maybe his phone died? Anyways I have a glass that's this size in my room. I'll go get it"
As I left the room I took another look at Tao. He looked odd, strange. He wasn't acting like the usual him. Something happened but I don't know what.
I went back to my room and went through my luggage. I found the glass from one of my picture frames. At the same time I found an old photo.
It was a picture of me and Lilac from the photo booth.
We secretly took this picture at the mall when we nearly escaped.
But of course, our escape never worked...there was always someone to bring us back.
Because of this...Lilac endured many punishments...she always took the blame for me
~flashback~
My first mission is to steal the seal from the towns mayor.
I went alone to the mayors mansion and into his study. I took out my screwdriver and broke open the safe. I was so nervous and scared. I was scared of failing..I couldn't even think of the consequences.
I quickly retrieved the seal and was heading out the door. As I head out I heard a noise so I ran the opposite direction.
Someone grabbed me and covered my mouth. I dropped the seal by accident and saw a man coming my way.
The person shoved me and I fell under the table.
"Hoho Ho ...what are you doing here?" A drunk man said
I glanced under the table and saw two legs
The one with the slimmer legs trying to walk away, but the drunk man came closer.
"Get away from me" said a girl
I heard a slap
"Ugh..." Grunted the man
"!"
I heard some more noises
"Ahhhh!" Screamed the girl
Thud. I felt the floor vibrate. I peeked and saw a old guy sitting on top of a girl.
"Aghh!!! No! Stop!"
I heard a zip sound.
"No! Don't!" The girl cried
"Hehehhehehe" laughed the old man
"Ahhhh!" The girl screamed loudly
I saw the girls face clearly...it was Lilacs...
Tears came out of my eyes very fast...I didn't dare make a sound.
I just witness that old guy Lilac...and I didn't do anything to stop him
I couldn't control myself...I took my knife out and crawled out. I came closer to the man...he was still Lilac...
I was very mad to the point that I shook. Lilac saw me and shakes her head vigorously...that old man didn't notice anything.
I raised my arms and stabbed him hard in the back. I took the knife out and stabbed him ten more times. When I pull the knife out, he fell on top of Lilac.
Lilac was crying...I pushed him away from Lilac.
It was my first time killing someone...I felt scared and angry.
I hugged Lilac...I can't believe I didn't notice it was Lilac that grabbed me from before.
I heard more noise and I grabbed Lilac's hand and jumped out of the window.
We ran all the way back to the headquarters. I dragged Lilac back to my room and into the bathroom. I turned the shower on and took her clothes off.
She looked down and cried.
I know it was all my fault...she did it for me...if only I killed that man earlier.
If only I was more careful...
I scrubbed her hard trying to rub all the dirty stains that old guy left behind.
When I was done, I tucked Lilac to sleep.
The next day Rosaceae's underling came to me.
"Where's the seal?" He asked
Oh ...I left it at the mansion...I was too busy killing that dirt bag that I left it behind.
"I..I..forgot it" I stuttered
The underlings face was red in anger.
"You forgot it! How the hell could you forget it! " he screams
I looked down...I know what's going to happen...they told us first day that this would happen.
He pulled out his belt and whipped me hard.
He whipped me at my face...I could already feel the blood coming out of my face.
I cried...no one ever treated me like this before.
He hit me harder when he saw me cry.
I knew I was wrong for forgetting the seal, but I knew he did this out of jealousy too.
He was angry about the special treatment I got from Rosaceae and he wanted to take his anger out on me.
As he whip me once more I felt no pain.
I opened my eyes and saw Lilac in front of me. She stood there shielding me away from the belt.
"Lilac!"
The underling saw her and stopped
"Move..or I'll hit you too" he said
"No" she said
He hit her hard and she winces
"Lilac...go away! It's my fault not yours...I can't let him hit you"
I tried to pry her away from me but it didn't work.
The underling kept hitting her to the point that she collapsed in front of me.
I cried hard and hugged Lilac.
The underling got tired and left.
"Why did you do that Lilac! Today...yesterday...why? Why help someone like me?"
She looks up at me and smiles
It was heartbreaking...her beautiful face was bruised up
"Because you remind me of...me" she said softly
That same night as I lay in bed...I had a nightmare...
It was the man that I killed...he wasn't Lilac..but me.. I killed him but he kept coming at me.
I woke up and I felt someone wrapped around me.
I screamed. Who the hell is this ? Was it him? No it can't be I killed him already...
The person woke up and hugged me, patting my head.
I hit the person hard on his chest many times but he held me tightly.
"Shhh...it's just a nightmare"
I cried and tried to pull away.
He opened the lights and stared at me...it was Rosaceae not the mayor.
His jaws dropped and he wiped my tears.
He looked pissed off.
"Who did this to you?"
I didn't reply and he pulled me close.
He kissed the bruises on my face and hugged me,rubbing my back.
I fell asleep but before that I heard him say something.
"No one dares touch my girl...Whoever that son of a is...I'll kill him"
The next day, the underling was killed by Rosaceae
~end of flashback~
I took the photo and placed it inside my wallet.
I exhaled and wiped my eyes...maybe I shouldn't tell Lay. If I say she's dead,he'll ask more questions.
And more question equal leaking my past and her past...
I went back to Lays room and didn't see Tao there.
I looked around but I couldn't find the picture.
Maybe he went back to his room?
I took the glass and went to Tao's room, his door wasn't locked.
I glanced around and saw the picture on the table.
I sat down and pushed the glass inside the frame. It was the same size...it was a perfect fit.
*thump*
Something suddenly falls on me...correction, somebody.
"Tao?"
He didn't reply...the guy's breathing was haggard. I tried to push him off me but he was so heavy.
He felt slightly wet and he clung to me for a long time.
He smelt like lavender...
Lavender? He must be the same guy...the guy that comforted me
"Don't touch Si..." He mumbled
Kris? It sounds like him.
I used all my strength and pushed him away from me and he fell onto the table.
"Kris? Are you okay?"
"Ngh..."he mumbles
I bend down and touch his forehead using the back of my palms.
His head was really hot...it felt like it was burning on fire.
He has a fever.
I took his arm and placed it around my shoulders, I held his waist with one hand and slowly dragged him towards his bed.
I left him there and went to the bathroom to soak a towel.
I came back and place it on his forehead.
I pulled his blanket over his chest, but surprisingly he grabs my arm and pulls me to him.
Dèja Vu...I swear this happened before..
I tried pulling him away but he keeps pulling me to him.
I give up...he comforted me last time,I guess it's only right to return the favor.
I stayed there staring down at Kris. He was sweating a lot ...he looked like he was in a lot of pain.
I took the towel and wiped his face.
"Ngh...no..." Kris grunted
I tucked his hair behind his ear.
"Shhhh...it's okay" I murmured
"...no...I'm not..."
He gripped my hands harder
What? Is he awake?
"...I'm not lying"
Lying ? He's dream talking...
"Even...even if they don't want you...I'll still want you" kris said in Cantonese
What? What did he just say? Did he just say that to me?
That's what Draco said to me...it can't be...
it's just a coincident...he's just dream talking...
maybe I'm overlooking things.
I looked at Kris again..he looks nothing like Draco..it can't be him..
My phone rings, I pulled Kris's fingers apart and grabbed it..
"Hello?"
"Ah, Minhee! It's me, come to the restaurant...we need to talk"
"Okay, I'll come down in 5 minutes"
I hanged up and glanced at Kris again.
"I'm sorry Kris...but I have to go" I took his towel and soaked it in cold water and placed it back in his forehead.
I grabbed Lays picture and left.
"No..don't go..Si Eun, don't go"
