Crazy is Everywhere.
Third Time's the Charm [Discontinued]
Sehun slouched into his chair in a weak attempt to shrink his stature and hide behind the protective barriers of the nurse’s station. He buried his fatigued face in his hands before peaking through the gap of his fingers. His pupils followed the rhythmic motions of the seconds ticking by on the clock. He had just started his shift and was already hoping for it to be time to go home. Sehun had prepared himself for countless nights spent behind the computer screen researching on the mysteries of the human brain. He was ready to break his back in order to withstand the arduous hours of delicate brain surgeries. He expected a strict schedule packed tightly with conferences and operations. However, what he found himself in was an endless flux of patients day in and night out; his legs cramping in protest from running around the whole day; chaotic shifts where god knows when he will have time to take a break.
“Doctor Oh we need you in the trauma bay!”
Biting back a groan, Sehun bitterly bid goodbye to his five minutes of peace. He breathed in deeply and upon exhaling pushed himself off the chair and into action. Within seconds he stepped into the trauma bay where a frantic Jongin had expertly set the scene up, ready for the main character.
“Patient is victim of car accident and is struggling to breathe.”
“Alright, prepare for intu—” Sehun had yet to complete the sentence when an ET tube had magically appeared in his extended hand.
“Connecting lines now and will prepare ultrasound machine next.” Jongin grinned at the surprised doctor and gave him a firm pat on the shoulder.
Thanks to the support of a trained and highly competent ER nurse, the inexperienced resident doctor started to find his footing. Just like that, what appeared to be a dreaded morning had morphed into a smooth operation. Sehun only needed to glance in Jongin’s direction and the latter will already be preparing for the next steps. This seamless and harmonious collaboration ensured the treatment of the patient was efficient and of high quality.
“Vitals are stable,” Jongin announced.
Exhaling loudly, Sehun did not even have time to express words of gratitude towards Jongin when the peacefulness was disrupted yet again. A rich and authoritative voice that Sehun could recognise anywhere resonated in the ER.
“Yah Park Chanyeol restrain him properly you stupid giant!”
“I’m tryi—”
“I AM LORD JESUS HIMSELF. HOW DARE THOU TOUCH ME WITH SUCH DISRESPECT!”
Sehun poked his head out from behind the trauma bay just in time to witness a horrified Chanyeol tripping on his own feet as the patient he was restraining wiggled in his hold like a snake.
“LET ME GO, I NEED TO FULFIL THE MIRACLE.”
“No miracle will enable you to walk on water,” Kyungsoo hollered from behind.
Taeyeon, who had come over to take over the patient from the officers, yelped in shock as all she was saw a berserk patient biting Chayeol’s arm before diving towards her. A furious Kyungsoo quickly stepped in and grabbed the patient by his forearm. The patient snarled at Kyungsoo and launched a punch at him but the officer easily blocked the attack. Kyungsoo narrowed his eyes at the patient before glancing behind him. He then nodded and forcefully pushed the patient downwards. Just as Sehun thought the berserk patient would end up flat on the ground, Soonbok appeared with a wheelchair that cushioned the fall. In the time that it took Sehun to blink, the seasoned nurse had clasped the patient’s arms down onto the wheelchair with restraints. Kyungsoo smoothly followed up by adding restraints to the patient’s legs.
“Where there is crazy, there is Bokkie-bok,” Jongin whistled.
Sehun shivered at how everyone seemed to be treating the situation with such nonchalance.
