Truth

My person

The next morning, Jiyeon woke to a slight hangover, though it was more of a moral hangover. She was now feeling terrible about what she did last night. Flashes of images about how she spent the evening with Myungsoo started to come to her mind and only made her feel worse.

“How frustrating.” She said to herself.

She sat on her bed and scratched her head, she overslept a bit, therefore her eyelids felt heavy. She looked at herself in the mirror.

“I can’t believe you did that.” She said aloud.

After that, she had breakfast and did some homework she hadn’t done. A couple of hours later, she got ready to go to college. Though she was a bit worried, what if she came across Kyungri? The guilt would expose her. She was unsure she would be able to look at her in the face.

The girl sighed for the millionth time that day and went out of her home. When she reached the campus she was pleading not to encounter Kyungri nor Myungsoo, she wasn’t ready to face them. Suddenly another person came to her mind, Minhyun, she hadn’t thought about it that much but she somehow also felt terrible for the boy, it must have been really hard to watch her behaving like that with Myungsoo.

Ugh, my goodness this whole mess is insane. She recriminated herself.

“Jiyeon.”

The girl froze, she couldn’t believe she actually had that bad of a luck. She turned around and saw Kyungri smiling and waving at her.

Life really hates me. She thought discouraged.

She waved back and approached the girl with a smile, she was trying so hard to act normal, though she knew it was more than obvious that something was off with her.

“Hi Kyungri, how are you?” Jiyeon politely asked.

“I’m good, actually I wanted to ask you for a minute, I need to talk with you about something.” The girl answered.

“Sure.” Jiyeon answered.

Kyungri nodded and started to guide the way. Jiyeon followed her closely, the girl didn’t turn to look at her at all and Jiyeon couldn’t help but to feel something was wrong.

She can’t know about it, right? She nervously thought.

When they reached a kind of isolated place in the campus, Kyungri turned around to face her, her expression was completely different from the previous one. She was now completely serious and seemed to be studying Jiyeon’s expression.

“What do you wanted to tell me?” Jiyeon asked trying to quickly end that reunion.

Kyungri narrowed her eyes and tilted her head.

“You really don’t know what I want to talk about?” The girl ironically asked.

Damn it, she knows. Jiyeon panicked.

All Jiyeon wanted to do was apologize to her a million times and ask her not to be angry at Myungsoo and bear all the guilt. Though for some reason she decided to do something else.

“I don’t, that’s why I’m asking.” Jiyeon answered.

Kyungri snorted and rolled her eyes.

“I can’t believe this.” She whispered.

After that, she took out her cellphone and looked for something, when she found it, she showed the screen to Jiyeon. Jiyeon frowned, she was surprised that Kyungri actually had a photo of Myungsoo and her hugging, she knew it was from the time they were already back at the campus. Jiyeon sighed heavily and closed her eyes.

“What? You’re going to tell me it’s not what it seems?” Kyungri recriminated.

“I won’t.” Jiyeon opened her eyes and looked at Kyungri. “The photo is clear, yes I was hugging Myungsoo but nothing more than that happened.”

“You’re incredible.” Kyungri said with disbelief. “Nothing more happened? It’s my boyfriend who you are embracing so tightly you know!?”

“I know it!” Jiyeon also raised her voice. “And I apologize for that, we are best friends and we used to do that all the time, I know that doesn’t justify our actions, so I’m really sorry, it won’t happen again.”

Kyungri chuckled and put her cellphone again, Jiyeon narrowed her eyes, she couldn’t understand what was so funny.

“You truly are an hypocrite.” She told Jiyeon with a grin.

“Excuse me?” Jiyeon asked back with a frown.

“You heard me! You act all so innocent but you’re nothing more than an hypocrite!” Kyungri raised her voice. “Sojin was completely right.”

That name threw Jiyeon off balance; she hadn’t heard that name in so long, she thought everything was already in the past, but it seemed that the past was determined to haunt her.

“Wha- what did you just say?” Jiyeon stuttered.

“Sojin.” She repeated. “Does that name makes you remember something?” Kyungri asked back with a grin.

“How do you know about her?” Jiyeon asked clearly affected.

“I knew who you were since the beginning.” Kyungri started to explain while crossing her arms. “We are childhood friends, I know what you did to her and the moment I saw you and made sure you were the same person who hurt her, I was determined to make you suffer and pay for what you’ve done.”

Jiyeon was completely at disbelief, she never thought that shadow of her past would follow her to that point. How bad of a luck does she had that she had to encounter Sojin’s bosom friend at college?

“So I’m the bad one here?” The girl asked confused.

“Don’t act like the victim honey, it doesn’t suit you.” Kyungri mocked. “Even when Sojin already got her revenge on you, I couldn’t keep still when I saw you.”

Jiyeon looked at her in confusion.

“So making up a stupid rumor and making my last weeks of high school a living hell weren’t enough?” She asked in disbelief.

Kyungri chuckled again.

“Oh dear, that was just a little part of her revenge.” Kyungri answered still in between laughs. “Don’t you want to know the real reason why you didn’t pass the entrance exam?”

Jiyeon widened her eyes horrified. There was no way that Sojin could take it that far.

“Yes, Sojin was the one who made sure you didn’t get into college.” Kyungri confirmed her suspicions. “Her uncle is the chairman of the college you were enrolling to, it wasn’t that hard to ask for a little favor.” She finished explaining with a mischievous grin.

Jiyeon chuckled in disbelief and put a hand on her head. She couldn’t believe Sojin could take things to that extent, did she really had to ruin her life like that?

“Sojin is crazy.” She said in disbelief.

“Stop it, don’t talk like that about her, that was the least you deserved, if it were me, your whole life would be totally ruined by now.” Kyungri angrily answered.

Jiyeon acknowledged there was no way to make her understand what truly happened, she was Sojin’s friend after all, so there was no point in it.

“Okay, I get it, you’ve got your revenge, I’m going now.” Jiyeon stated.

“Not so fast honey.” Kyungri said with a smile. “What makes you think my revenge is done?” She threateningly asked.

Jiyeon frowned. That didn’t sound good.

“What do you mean?” Jiyeon cautiously asked.

“After all that I’ve told you now, aren’t you curious about why I chose Myungsoo as my boyfriend?” She asked with a grin.

Jiyeon now understood what her revenge was about. Kyungri was going to hurt the person she care about the most, since at Kyungri’s eyes, Jiyeon did the same when she ‘hurt’ Sojin, Kyungri’s most important friend.

“Don’t you dare to do something against him.” Jiyeon threatened.

“How scary.” Kyungri mocked. “But there’s nothing you can do about it, I’ve got him in my hands.”

“What the hell do you want?” Jiyeon angrily asked.

“Stay away from him.”

Jiyeon frowned in confusion and Kyungri approached her.

“I know what hurts you the most is being apart from him and that’s exactly what I want, stay away from him and witness how he gives me all the love you’d wish he gave to you. If you promise to be a good girl and stay away from him, I won’t do anything against him.” Kyungri said in a false innocent tone.

Jiyeon gritted her teeth. Kyungri indeed knew her weak spot, it was going to be a living hell. But she had no other option, she didn’t want to see Myungsoo hurt. She sighed heavily and nodded.

“I’ll do what you say.” Jiyeon said defeated.

Kyungri smiled at her innocently again and took her hand.

“Thank you so much Jiyeon, I’m so relieved that this mess is cleared up, I hope we can still be good friends.”

After that Kyungri went away as if nothing happened, leaving an angered Jiyeon behind.

That . She angrily thought while clenching her fists.

Jiyeon wasn’t in the mood to take classes so she decided to stay outside and try to calm herself down a bit. Hyomin texted her asking about her absence and Jiyeon made up an excuse to leave her at ease so she wouldn’t look for her. After a while, she was starting to calm down, now that the anger was gone, the worry was starting to take place. She didn’t know if she could actually trust Kyungri or not. Also, she knew about her past, it wasn’t only Myungsoo who was in danger. She sighed heavily.

Damn it, what should I do? She thought while rubbing her temples.

“Jiyeon?”

The girl looked up to be faced with a worried Minhyun. Jiyeon smiled at him with relief, she didn’t know why but the boy always managed to make her calm.

“Hey Minhyun.”

The boy smiled at her and sat by her side

“Hey are you okay?” He suddenly asked. “You seem a bit off.”

Jiyeon sighed heavily, she really wanted to tell someone about what just happened but she didn’t know if Minhyun was the right person to talk to. After all, it had to do with Myungsoo. Minhyun noticed Jiyeon’s indecision and smiled a bit at her.

“Hey you can tell me anything, it doesn’t matter if it has something to do with Myungsoo.”

Jiyeon widened her eyes and looked at him with surprise.

How comes he always knows what I’m thinking? She thought surprised.

But despite her surprise, she now felt more comfortable to tell him everything, she didn’t know why but she wanted to tell him about it more than anyone else.

“Well, it doesn’t have to do exactly with Myungsoo but with Kyungri.” She started to say.

“Kyungri?” Minhyun asked confused with a frown.

Jiyeon nodded and then started to tell him the whole thing.

“And that’s basically what happened yesterday.”

Myungsoo was at Sungkyu’s house, he was kind of in a complete state of confusion and needed someone to give him an advice or at least a scolding, something that could make him feel less burdened.

“So you basically flirted with Jiyeon the whole evening.” Sungkyu made it short.

“If you put it that way, well, I guess so.” Myungsoo answered a bit burdened.

Sungkyu sighed heavily and rubbed his temples, they were sitting at the little kitchen table, each one with a soda in front of them.

“Dude seriously, what’s this?” Sungkyu seriously asked him.

Myungsoo groaned and ruffled his own hair in distress.

“I also don’t know what the hell I’m doing.” He confessed.

“Listen.” Sungkyu said while looking seriously at him. “I’ve already told you countless times what I think about this whole thing between Jiyeon and you, and all that’s left to say is that you need to get your together, you’re hurting yourself and also Jiyeon, this isn’t fair for any of you. So I agree with Jiyeon’s friend.” He made a pause. “Stop this and decide what you want once and for all, stop this stupid and dangerous game already.”

“I need to go to class.” Myungsoo suddenly said while standing up.

He grabbed his belongings and opened the door to go away, but Sungkyu talked again.

“Myungsoo.” The boy stopped to look at him. “I’m serious here, this has gone too far, stop it before it destroys you both.” Sungkyu finished saying completely serious.

“I will.” Myungsoo answered and then closed the door.

“You need to tell Myungsoo about this.”

Jiyeon denied with her head and Minhyun sighed.

“I can’t, I don’t know what kind of reaction he’ll have and what Kyungri will do.” Jiyeon answered conflicted.

“I know you’re trying to protect him but if he’s endangered then he has the right to know.” Minhyun reasoned with her.

“He won’t be endangered as long as I do what Kyungri says.” Jiyeon replied.

“I’m sorry to say this but, you weren’t that naïve to actually think Kyungri would keep her word, right?” He made a pause. “And even if she keeps her word, Myungsoo would still be dating a lie, it doesn’t sound fair if you ask me.”

Jiyeon sighed heavily and rested her head on the table.

“I know it.” She said discouraged. “But I don’t think I have the strength to reveal something like that to him, and after what happened yesterday I’m afraid he’ll think is something I came up to separate him from Kyungri.”

She regretted having said that when she saw Minhyun’s expression. She knew it was already hard to witness her behavior the previous day to be reminded about it the next day.

“I don’t think he would take it that way but just to be sure he won’t think that, maybe you should wait a couple of days to tell him about it.” Minhyun suddenly answered as if nothing happened.

Jiyeon looked attentively at him looking for something off on his expression but couldn’t find a thing. She was relieved to see that, though in the other hand she was afraid that he was a really good pretender and was just hiding his pain.

Minhyun then looked at his wristwatch and sighed.

“We must go, next period will start soon.” He announced.

Jiyeon nodded and both took their backpacks and went away. Minhyun insisted to drop Jiyeon at her classroom, when they reached there, they bid farewell ad Minhyun went away, though not to his classroom, he was determined to find someone else; and as if heavens heard him, he came across the one he was looking for.

“Myungsoo.” He called him.

The named turned around and the moment he recognized him, a frown was all over his face. Minhyun approached him until he was standing in front of him.

“Can we talk for a minute?” Minhyun asked.

Myungsoo narrowed his eyes and looked at him from head to toes.

“Sure.” He finally answered.

Minhyun and Myungsoo went far from the classrooms and then started to talk.

“What do you want? I don’t have much time since classes are about to start.” Myungsoo said in annoyance.

“Don’t worry this won’t take long.” Minhyun said.

After that, Minhyun just told Myungsoo everything that happened between Kyungri and Jiyeon, with each word being said, Myungsoo was more and more surprised and confused.

“Jiyeon doesn’t want to tell you anything but I can’t bear seeing her that burdened because of you and your girlfriend.” Minhyun seriously said.

Myungsoo didn’t know what to answer so Minhyun kept speaking.

“Listen I don’t know what the hell you have in mind and even when it kills me to accept it, you’re the only one Jiyeon has in mind.” Minhyun started to say and Myungsoo looked at him with widened eyes. “But I won’t stay still if she ends up hurt because of you, if you treasure her as much as you claim then I hope that you can at least protect her, if you aren’t able to even do that then you should just let her go.”

Myungsoo clenched his fists and looked angrily at Minhyun.

“You just want me to let her go so you can seek for a chance with her.” Myungsoo replied.

Minhyun crossed his arms and chuckled.

“I know this is a lost war since the moment I met you and knew you were Jiyeon’s most important person. But I’m not gonna deny that I’ll always be there for her and if there’s a little chance for me to win over her heart, I’ll take it.” Minhyun said determined.

Myungsoo sighed heavily and scratched his head. Minhyun wasn’t in the mood to keep talking to Myungsoo, so he decided to cut the conversation.

“I don’t care what you’ll do but make sure you don’t hurt Jiyeon further, or else I won’t remain still as I have done all this time.”

With that being said, Minhyun went away and Myungsoo was left there standing. He was completely overwhelmed by what he just heard. How could it be? Kyungri was Sojin’s childhood friend and now she has threatened Jiyeon with him.

Damn it! He angrily thought and went away to look for someone.

“Hey there sweetie.” Kyungri excitedly said the moment she spotted Myungsoo.

“You have a minute?” The boy simply asked once he was in front of her.

“For you, always.” She assured with a smile.

Myungsoo couldn’t help but to frown, he always loved Kyungri’s cuteness, though now that he knew the truth he was disgusted by her act. He took her somewhere else to talk.

“What is it darling? You seem a bit off today.” Kyungri remarked.

“What happened between Jiyeon and you?” Myungsoo seriously asked.

Kyungri put on an innocent face and tilted her head.

“Jiyeon? I saw her a while ago and talked to her a bit, why?”

“And how are things between you two?” He curiously asked.

“Fine I guess, I think I’m making progress with her, I’d love to be her close friend, she seems really nice.” Kyungri said.

Myungsoo gritted his teeth.

How far was she planning to take his? He thought angered.

“You’re unbelievable.” Myungsoo said with a chuckle.

“What do you mean?” Kyungri asked confused.

“I know it all Kyungri, so you can stop pretending now.” Myungsoo said completely serious.

“What?” She asked with a chuckle as well.

“Don’t play innocent with me ‘cause it won’t work anymore.”

Kyungri snorted with a grin and then looked at Myungsoo with a completely different expression. Myungsoo wouldn’t deny he was surprised by how much her expression changed, she was like a completely different person.

“What? Jiyeon ran to tell you everything the moment we finished talking?” She mocked.

“She didn’t tell me a thing.” Myungsoo clarified.

“Oh? So she doesn’t trust you that much, I see.” She said with a smirk.

Myungsoo hated to accept it but Kyungri was right in that point, he couldn’t help but to feel a bit hurt by the fact that Jiyeon didn’t tell him anything and he wondered if that was how Jiyeon felt whenever he kept things from her. It wasn’t a pleasant feeling.

“You don’t know a thing about her so refrain from saying nonsense.” Myungsoo angrily answered. “I don’t want to waste more time with you, this is over.”

Kyungri snorted and crossed her arms.

“You think it’ll be that easy?”

“There’s no point for us to remain together, since I’m already aware of everything, then your plot won’t work, so why waste each other’s time in something neither of us want?” Myungsoo reasoned with a serious tone.

“Whatever, I also don’t want to keep wasting my time, this became really boring.” Kyungri said after rolling her eyes.

Myungsoo looked at her for some more seconds with an emotionless gaze before he turned around and walked away, decided to look for someone without further delay.
