“Jiyeon!”

The girl turned her head to see her best friend Myungsoo. Both got to know each other in high school, they quickly became friends and since then hanged out everywhere together.

“Hi there! You’re early today.” She answered him cheerfully.

They’re currently in their second year of high school, because of their close relationship there are some people who think of them as a couple, but they actually aren’t.

“You know what, I hate having classes so early in the morning.” He said after yawning.

“I guess everyone hates it.” She answered giggling.

“You just got here and you’re already complaining about school? Shame on you.” Sungkyu told him after he put an arm over Myungsoo’s shoulders.

Sungkyu is Myungsoo’s best friend; they’ve known each other since childhood and have gone to the same schools up to high school.

“Cut it. You’re as lazy as I am.” Myungsoo answered him.

“I’m lazy but accept that you’re lazier than me.” Sungkyu said and then turned to see Jiyeon “In fact, you’re such a bad influence to our lovely Jiyeon.” He finished teasing him.

“Go away!” Myungsoo shook him off from him.

“Fine fine I’ll go now, have fun you two!” He said with his arms up in surrender and walking away.

“I swear one day I’m going to kill him.” Myungsoo said looking at Sungkyu’s back.

“You know how many times I have heard you say the same thing?” Jiyeon .

Myungsoo looked at her and laughed, Jiyeon laughed as well. After that they went to their respective classrooms for classes.

Jiyeon is actually a pretty smart and dedicated student. She’s constantly praised by her teachers for her grades. She doesn’t have a lot of friends but is friendly with everyone even when she’s a little introverted, she tries to help everyone that comes to her for help about the assignments.

On the other hand, Myungsoo is an extroverted guy that is friend of almost every person at high school, he’s known for being easygoing and carefree; even when he’s not as smart as Jiyeon his grades aren’t that bad despite being known for his laziness.

 

The bell for lunch rang and everyone went out to eat. Jiyeon went straight to the cafeteria where she knew a group of seven guys would be waiting for her.

“Jiyeon we’re here!” She suddenly heard and saw a boy standing on his chair waving his hands and smiling at her.

“Sungjong stop it you’re embarrassing us!” she heard Myungsoo say to him when she approached to the table they were in.

Aside from Sungkyu, Myungsoo was close friends with other five guys at highschool, Dongwoo, Woohyun, Hoya, Sungyeol and Sungjong, the last two were a year younger than them, while the rest were in the same class of Sungkyu and Myungsoo.

“Hi Sungjong.” Jiyeon said laughing.

“How were your classes?” Sungjong asked her.

“They were good, what about yours?” Jiyeon asked back.

“Boring. Maybe I should just quit and become a model or something like that.” The boy answered her.

“See what you’ve done Myungsoo?” Dongwoo suddenly said.

“What do I have to do with that?” Myungsoo asked him annoyed.

“He’s already been influenced by your laziness, what a bad senior you are.” He said with false disappointment.

Jiyeon started to laugh by the remark and Myungsoo looked at her in disbelief.

“What are you laughing for? Do you agree with him?” Myungsoo asked her with a false pained voice.

Jiyeon just smiled to him and Sungkyu was the one to answer the question.

“Of course she agrees with him, everyone knows about your reputation, you can’t deny it.”

Myungsoo then turned to see Sunjong and pointed a finger at him.

“You little brat, I’m telling you, if you dare to quit school I’ll bring you back by whatever means.” He said with a threaten voice.

Everyone saw how Sungjong just remained silent and nodded his head in obedience. They burst laughing by the scene that took place and started to eat.

When they finished their meals, the boys went to play some soccer. Myungsoo stayed behind with Jiyeon and were chatting cheerfully.

“What do you want to do now?” Myungsoo asked her.

“What if we go with the boys and watch them play, maybe you can join them.” Jiyeon answered him with a smile.

“But I want to be with you a little more.” He pouted.

“Geez you’re like a kid.” She said while poking one of his cheeks. Myungsoo smiled to her.

“Do you want a donut? I’ll buy you one.” He offered her.

“You’re going to make me gain a lot of weight if you keep buying me donuts every single day.” She answered him.

“But you love them, and who cares about the weight, I’ll buy us one.” He said before going away to buy them.

Myungsoo liked spoiling Jiyeon a lot, whether it was with food or little gifts, he just loved to please the girl with whatever she wanted, even if she didn’t ask for it.

“Here” He handed the donut to her.

“Thank you.” She said while taking it. “But I’m serious Myungsoo if you make me gain more weight I’ll really make you regret it.”

“I don’t care how you look, no matter what I’ll always be by your side.” He answered her with a smile.

“Then how will I ever have a boyfriend?” She pouted.

“The one that becomes your boyfriend will love you no matter how you look. If he doesn’t then he’ll have to face me.” Myungsoo answered while showing his fist.

Jiyeon laughed at him and both started to eat.

“Say, why do you suddenly talk about boyfriends? Are you interested in someone?” Myungsoo asked her in a teasing tone once they finished eating.

“No. It’s just natural for us to have that kind of interest right?” She answered a bit flustered.

“Yeah, maybe you’re right.” Myungsoo said nonchalantly.

“Now that I think about it, what happened with the girl you were going out a couple of weeks ago?” Jiyeon asked him.

“It didn’t work out; we just dated for a few weeks.” He answered her without much concern.

“Seriously Myungsoo, you’re such a womanizer.” Jiyeon told him shaking her head.

“Hey I’m not a womanizer!” He answered with fake pain and putting a hand over his chest.

Jiyeon gave him a look of disbelief and Myungsoo started laughing. She just smiled to him and looked away.

Just in that moment someone came across her vision, her cheeks immediately became red and she couldn’t help but to look away from him. Jungmin was one of the most popular guys at school, he was already in the senior year. Jiyeon has liked him since the first year, but she had never approached him nor talked to him.

Myungsoo noticed how Jiyeon suddenly became silent and was looking to the floor.

“Hey, you okay?” He asked her.

“Huh? Yeah, I’m alright.” She looked at him and laughed nervously.

Myungsoo narrowed his eyes and approached to her face.

“Your cheeks are red. Tell me, who is the one that you like, is he here?” He asked her while he turned to scan the whole place.

“That’s not it. I already told you I don’t like anyone.” She tried to cut the conversation.

Myungsoo returned his gaze to her and noticed how embarrassed she was. He smiled and decided to change the topic.

“Okay. I believe you. Hey, let’s go with the guys.”

“Um Jiyeon?”

A female voice said before Jiyeon could answer Myungsoo, both of them turned to see who the owner of the voice was.

“Oh, hi Sojin.” Jiyeon answered with a smile.

Sojin was a classmate of Jiyeon. She was a really pretty and popular girl, everyone thought of her as a nice girl. Jiyeon wasn’t a friend of her but they have talked a couple of times; mostly about assignments, since Sojin had a bit trouble with them.

“I’m sorry for interrupting you, but I was wondering if you could explain to me the last topic of chemistry I’m having trouble to understand it.” Sojin said timidly.

“Sure, don’t worry about it.” Jiyeon answered her.

“Thank you, I really appreciate it. But I don’t want to disturb you I think you were going somewhere, right?” Sojin said.

“Don’t worry, it’s okay.” She reassured her with a smile and then looked at Myungsoo “I’m sorry but I’ll stay with her, go play with the boys, we’ll see each other later.” She said to him with a smile.

“Sure, don’t worry. Have fun.” He answered her with a smile and went away.

“Thank you so much Jiyeon.” Sojin repeated herself.

“You’re welcome.” Jiyeon said to her with a smile “Now tell me where do you have doubts?”

 

After she finished explaining Sojin the topic she was having trouble with; Jiyeon went to watch the boys play. As expected, as soon as Myungsoo saw her, he started to show off and the guys were constantly teasing him about it. It was already a common sight to everyone, just like most of the days.

When they had to return to their classes, they agreed to meet at the end of the day in order to go home together.

 

The bell that announced the end of the day rang and Jiyeon stretched.

Finally, it has ended. She thought happily.

Even when she liked learning that didn’t mean that she was especially fond of going to school to take lessons since early in the morning. She packed her things up and started to go to the entrance of the school to meet up with the guys. When she was almost there, someone called her name.

“Jiyeon?”

She didn’t recognize the owner of the voice so she turned around, just to find out that the voice belonged to Jungmin. The boy was looking at her nervously. Jiyeon stayed frozen a couple of seconds, she didn’t know how to react, her crush talked to her first and was willing to start a conversation.

Come on Jiyeon, snap out of it. Answer him! She scolded herself innerly.

“H- Hello” She answered with a stutter.

Control yourself Jiyeon! She was trying to remain calm but she could already feel the warmth over her face, she wouldn’t be surprised if she was already blushing.

“I’m Jungmin, I currently am in th- third year.” Jungmin answered her a little bit faster than the average normal talking.

Wait. Did he just stutter as well? Jiyeon thought surprised.

She started to scan the boy and noticed how he was nervously playing with his hands and constantly avoiding eye contact with her.

It can’t be. She thought with excitement. No, stop it Jiyeon, don’t get your hopes up yet.

“Yes. I know you.” She answered with a smile a bit calmer.

“Really?” Jungmin asked her with a smile and a happy expression.

Oh come on, stop it. How am I supposed to focus on the conversation if you smile like that? Jiyeon complaint in her mind.

“Yes. I mean, almost everyone knows you actually.” She answered like it wasn’t a big deal.

“Oh, yeah you’re right.” He said a bit disappointed.

An awkward silence took place since neither of them said anything else.

What is this? Did he approach me just to say that? Jiyeon thought confused. So she decided to break the silence.

“So, did you want to tell or ask me something?”

“Huh?” Jungmin just said and looked at her. Jiyeon remained silent for him to say something. “Oh yeah, I wanted to ask if we can be friends.” He finished nervously.

What? Jiyeon thought in disbelief utterly confused.

“Um sure, of course we can be friends.” She answered him with a smile.

“Cool.” Jungmin said with excitement and a big smile “Hey, what about we go to the arcade to celebrate our new friendship?” He asked her still with a huge smile.

Wait, wait, wait. Is he asking me on a date? Jiyeon thought with excitement as well.

She was about to agree to the offer when she remembered the agreement between her and the guys about going home together. Even when she really wanted to go with Jungmin she would feel bad about letting them down.

“Oh I’m sorry, but I can’t today. I already agreed with my friends to go home together.” She answered him.

“Is that so?” He said to her visibly disappointed about that fact. But almost immediately he smiled again. “Then what about tomorrow?” He asked her with hope.

Jiyeon was touched by his insistence and she couldn’t help but to have her hopes up about that as well.

“Sure, tomorrow’s perfect.” She answered him with a nervous smile.

“Great, until tomorrow then.” He answered her.

“Until tomorrow.” She said and he walked away.

I can’t believe this is actually happening! She thought happily and with all the excitement in the world. If she wasn’t in a public place right now, she for sure would be making a ridiculous happy dance because of what just happened.

 

“Jiyeon is taking her time huh?” Dongwoo said.

The seven boys were waiting for her at the entrance of the school, even when they have waited for her for a couple of minutes the girl still hadn’t arrived.

“That’s weird; she never stays more than necessary in here.” Myungsoo answered to him.

“Maybe she’s helping someone, like she usually does.” Sungkyu said like it wasn’t a big deal.

“If that’s the case maybe we should go ask her if she’s going to take long.” Sungyeol suggested.

“Wait. Isn’t that her?” Hoya suddenly said while pointing somewhere inside the school.

The whole group looked in the direction he was pointing and saw Jiyeon talking with someone.

“Who is she talking with?” Hoya asked to no one concretely.

“Isn’t it Jungmin? You know the third grader.” Sungjong said.

“Seems like it. Interesting; right Myungsoo?” Sungkyu asked Myungsoo in a teasing way.

Myungsoo remained silent and everyone could notice his evident change of humor. He seemed to be pissed. Sungkyu smiled upon Myungsoo’s attitude.

“Wait, what if he’s asking her out?” Sungjong said “He actually looks nervous right?”

“Nonsense.” Myungsoo simply said.

“It wouldn’t be strange.” Sungkyu remarked “Jiyeon is a pretty girl plus she’s really smart and nice. I bet he’s asking her out.”

“I bet as well.” Dongwoo said with a smile.

“Bull, and even if that’s the case, she won’t agree.” Myungsoo said.

“What makes you so sure about it?” Sungkyu asked him.

“She just told me that she isn’t interested in anyone.” Myungsoo said with confidence.

“Yeah sure and the sea is red. Come on Myungsoo did you really believed her?” Woohyun asked him.

Myungsoo remained silent and the boys were enjoying so much teasing him. They could see how jealous he was but the boy never accepted the fact that he was in love with Jiyeon. Everyone could see it aside from Myungsoo himself. Therefore they loved teasing him about it.

“If you don’t want to see this kind of scene just ask her out already for god’s sake.” Sungkyu said to Myungsoo.

“I’ve told you already. I love her; but not in that way.” Myungsoo answered annoyed.

“Fine, keep fooling yourself dude. But don’t complain later that we didn’t tell you.” Sungkyu said to him.

Myungsoo just remained silent with a grumpy face, looking at the scene that was developing in front of him.

 

“Hey, sorry to keep you waiting.” Jiyeon said to the boys cheerfully.

“Don’t worry about it.” Dongwoo answered her.

“Weren’t you just complaining about the fact that she was taking her time?” Myungsoo asked him angrily.

“I never complained. I just made that remark.” Dongwoo answered calmly.

Jiyeon noticed the awkward mood and looked at everyone.

“Okay who made Myungsoo angry?” She asked them with a smile.

“First things first.” Sungkyu said and approached her “Who were you talking to sweetie?”

Jiyeon visibly blushed and looked down before answering.

“Oh he was Jungmin, um the one that’s on third year.”

“Our Jiyeon is nervous, what, did he ask you out?” Sungkyu asked.

Everyone remained silent, waiting for her answer. Even when Myungsoo seemed uninterested in the conversation, he was anxiously waiting for her answer as well.

“Well, not exactly.” She said unconvinced.

“Wait what? He actually did it?” Woohyun asked her surprised.

Now everyone was interested in the relationship of Jungmin and Jiyeon. She told them what happened and that Jungmin invited her to the arcade the next day.

“Oh? So what did you answer?” Myungsoo asked her.

“I’ll go.” Jiyeon answered with a smile.

“See? I was right! He was asking her out!” Sungjong suddenly said with a huge smile.

“I was also right, it was pretty obvious.” Dongwoo joined Sungjong.

“Wait, were you betting about it?!” Jiyeon asked in disbelief.

The boys bursted out laughing and Jiyeon smiled at them.

“But there’s still the main question.” Hoya suddenly said. Everyone looked at him. “Do you like him?”

The boys turned to look at her, Jiyeon could feel how she started to blush, so she avoided their eyes by looking to the ground and just nodded.

“Look at you, so you lied to me earlier huh?” Myungsoo said to her with a smile.

“I didn’t mean to, but if you knew I bet you would have ruined everything.” She answered him pouting.

Myungsoo smiled at her and ruffled her hair.

“I’d never do that you fool.” He said to her with a smile. “But he better treat you well or he will regret it.” He finished a bit more serious.

“We haven’t even started dating. I need to wait and see how things will evolve.” She said with a timid smile.

“I can already sense the birth of a new couple.” Sungjong said with a smile.

Jiyeon laughed at the remark and started to walk away with Myungsoo and the rest of the boys. Sungkyu was at the end of the group, his gaze fixed on Jiyeon and Myungsoo who were talking happily.

You two are the biggest fools I know. He thought with a smile over his face.
