South Korea
Our South Korean Adventure
People used to always ask me who my best friend was, and I used to never be able to answer that
question. Now I can confidently tell people my best friend is Min Young. Min Young is from South Korea,
and we have been friends since the 3rdgrade. We both grew up in America and moved around due to the
various jobs our parents find. I haven’t seen her in 6 years because we both ended up moving to different
states, but our love for Korean dramas and Kpop have kept our friendship alive. Near the end of our high
school careers, it was Kpop and Kdramas that relieved our stress and gave us the strength to get out of
bed every day. Min Young and I are very different when it comes to watching kdramas. She likes to watch
multiple dramas at a time, and she often has trouble finishing them. Me on the other hand, I can only be
obsessed with one drama at a time, and then I usually end up suffering from post-korean drama depression
(if that even exists). It just that I get really sad after finishing a really good drama, after being
attached to it for weeks. Even though we’re different when it comes to watching Korean drama habits, we
are really similar in our kpop tastes. Our favorite bands include: Shinee, Suju, DBSK, 2pm, MBLAQ, SNSD,
f(x), KARA…and much more, but our most favorite group of all is EXO. We both love Exo M and Exo K, but
she likes Exo K a little more since she’s Korean, and I like Exo M a little more because I’m Chinese.
So the story begins, when we both end up going to the same college together. It’s always been our dream
to attend Harvard together, and the day admissions decisions came out was one of the happiest days of
our lives. We immediately informed each other of the great news on Facebook chat.
Min Young: OMG!!!! I can’t believe I got in!!
Me: I know!!! It’s like a dream come true!! I’m so out of breath from running around my neighborhood
screaming!!
Min Young: LOL!! I can’t believe I finally get to see you!! It’s been sooooo long!
Me: Hey! Did you know Harvard has a South Korean exchange program?!?!
Min Young: Ha! Of course I do!! It’s one of the fabulous reasons why I applied to Harvard.
Me: AHHH!! It’s going to be sooo exciting! Me and you exploring SOUTH KOREA!! WOOO HOOO
