invisible string
-my heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue, all's well that ends well to end up with you-
Sehun counted the days, wondering if ever Yerim will say it—that she wanted to move out. He didn't want that. Perhaps she resided in every house in New York now, in everyone's lips, in everyone's hearts, but he still wanted his little sister to live under the same roof with him. Irene always said that Yerim was definitely their first child. He had seen her grow and he had seen her dance in her talents, he was the proudest but he was also a little selfish. He wanted the three of them to live together.
They'd been living together for six years now. It was crazy to think how much time had passed. He was 29, they lived in a bigger house, he couldn't help but notice how these gray walls were so warm every night they sat to eat their dinner together. He saw different colors of everyday, at work, on the roads, among the stack of papers he reviewed but at home, everything was the same as it was years ago. There was no change. His little family was the only constant in his life.
Joohyun closed the door behind her after entering the otherwise quiet study. Sehun looked over his shoulder and closed the book on his lap. He wanted to suggest that they must sort out their schedules so that he didn't have to spend weekends reading books he had already read. And same went for Yerim. But he only held back because she was on a rising ladder and shouldn't have to worry about spending time with family instead of solidifying her position in the industry.
Joohyun sat before him on the rocking chair and passed to him half of the pile of pictures in her hand.
"Did these arrive just now?"
She nodded to his question. Sehun looked down at the photograph on top and a smile crept up his lips. They had a little wedding. There wasn't a lot of money in the pockets, Sehun didn't want to ask Junmyeon or Yerim for help, her father was being difficult because he was younger than Joohyun but at least they did tie the knot. After the ceremony, the only honeymoon they had was dinner at a hotel they could afford. But it was sincere, they understood. There wasn't enough for a vacation. Both of them had work to attend to the day after the wedding. And there were these pictures that he held in his hands now, that reminded him of all the hurdles they had jumped together.
Joohyun showed him the picture of him ugly-crying at the altar and the priest was giving him a weird look. Sehun half rolled his eyes and half smiled. And then she showed him the picture of her laughing at his face as she walked down the aisle at her father's arm. Yes, she had her fun that day and that day was the day he felt the most fulfilled too. Like all his prayers had been answered, like he could move his mountains now that he had her as his wife.
He kept the pile of pictures on the stand beside him and took the one picture from the top. Yerim was fairly famous back then too. She had played the role of a young widow in her first film as a lead and her extraordinary acting was praised in magazine articles and in the television. There were so many cameras in the church yard, everyone wanted a piece of Kim Yerim, more like everyone wanted one flaw. In this picture, she was waving at the people at the door of the church. She looked like the royalties of England waving at their people from decorated balconies.
"Yerim's still the same, huh?" he mumbled to himself but of course, Joohyun had heard that. She moved closer to him and studied the picture, their little baby sister in a pink gown and fluffy sleeves. Irene nodded, a proud smile on her face.
These pictures were all from Junmyeon's camera. That was why the guy wasn't in any of these photographs. It was as if...he wasn't in the wedding at all. And in the heart wrenching moments all throughout the wedding, Sehun was glad Junmyeon's hands didn't shake. It was a surprise to everyone when Irene spoke. All of a sudden. With that nervous look on her face. Sehun still remembered it. That very second that he finally heard her sweet voice. He was so happy. Everyone was. She
