Chasing Ghosts (November)
If It's Not YouSilence fills the bedroom at noon.
Irene plays with her hair just to keep herself occupied, tying it in a messy bun and letting it fall down again. She can’t help but feel jittery as she watches Wendy, afraid that she’d disappear the second she tears her eyes away.
Across the room, Wendy takes her time making up and rearranging her belongings. Between the two of them, Irene is the hasty one. She treats time as a ticking bomb and worries of making more mistakes and not making good use of it.
Wendy’s hair is almost dry now and a simple shirt and shorts replace her stained white uniform. Just one inviting text from Irene was enough for the doctor to drop by after her shift. The least she could do was offer her bed and shower alongside a needy make out session.
She walks towards Wendy and the latter moves to make room for her with a smile so soft Irene could forget that anything else existed aside from the two of them.
But, when Wendy slings her bag and stands up, Irene is quick to grip on her arm with both hands, pleading silently for the other to stay.
Before she could convince Wendy, an incessant ring interrupts them. Moving her gaze from Wendy’s phone to her face, it’s easy to figure out who’s calling.
Irene lets go and leans back on the bed. But Wendy answers the call right then and there, bits of the conversation left for Irene to hear.
