The Theory of Life
VII
Wheein is the soldier’s name. She is short but Yongsun reckons she must have other qualities that make her a valuable asset on the field, if not, then they are just sending her to die.
Funnily enough, they talk comfortably, Yongsun thinks it is because she has no intentions of making any friends. Here is the thing: you do not make friends in the midst of war, you make enemies. War reveals a person’s true colours but Wheein’s pallet is purely white, bringing forth hope in a gust of wind that blows Yongsun away.
Wheein likes to read and write, has an interest in the arts and wants to become a painter but ended up as a soldier because the government needed more recruits, so she volunteered. It is for the greater good, at least that is what Wheein tells herself.
Yongsun thinks Wheein is fascinating, but a tragedy nonetheless. Wheein seems to be an artist with a colourful mind, she is a creator, but the war will ruin her in some way, wars destroy. Yongsun is terrified that Wheein will die or worse, she will be corrupted, and therefore she tries not to grow too fond of the young soldier sitting across from her.
