XLIII

While Yongsun is designing blueprints for a new building, she gets a call from Moonbyul. She puts down her pencil and picks up the hologram-pad. However, it is not Moonbyul’s face that greets her, but a meadow. 

«Look, Yongsun!» Moonbyul exclaims, Yongsun smiles at the sound of the woman’s voice, «it’s a field!» Moonbyul turns the camera, revealing herself wearing overalls and an old cap, «though, it is a bit overgrown, I just haven’t seen anything this green in a long time, I thought you might want to see as well.»

Yongsun watches Moonbyul through the hologram, hand unconsciously reaching for the woman’s face, it goes right through the flickering screen. Moonbyul laughs, light and crisp, perhaps having caught sight of Yongsun’s action. Warmth fills Yongsun, her stomach floats, she leans her elbows on her mahogany desk, crosses her legs, bites her lips and gives a hearty laugh as she watches Moonbyul turn the camera back to the meadow.

«I don’t know if you can see what I’m seeing, the lighting might make it a bit difficult, I should probably get one of the new hologram-pad models,» Yongsun hears Moonbyul chuckle behind the hologram, «I’ll get a bit closer, look, Yongsun, do you see ‘em? All the flowers. I haven’t seen anything like it, this place is so earthy.» Moonbyul turns the camera around and smiles, nose crinkling, «I miss you,» she says.
