Chapter 14
The RunawaysIt was pretty late in the evening when they arrived in Seongnam, where Kai’s friend lived.
Immediately after having replenished the fuel, Baekhyun had driven to Krystal's Pinocchio Hair Salon which had been marked off with yellow police tape. A long enough period of time had passed for the salon to not have any police guards on standby. Krystal seemed very uncomfortable being there but she and Kai had quickly disappeared into the little unit above the salon where Krystal used to stay. The two returned about ten minutes later with a haphazardly packed duffle bag.
Kai had insisted that he did not want to return to his apartment to get any of his stuff. Baekhyun had been reluctant to agree but the blonde hadn’t left him much choice. Baekhyun himself hadn’t seen any point in visiting his own rundown old apartment. All he had there was clothes anyway. And the redhead figured, the lighter he travelled the better.
So the four had returned back to their journey after that one quick stop.
Kai read out directions from the map on his phone.
As they went further into town, the houses lining the streets seemed to become bigger, fancier. And Baekhyun started wondering whether the map was leading them astray after all.
“Take a right here and it should be on the left,” Kai instructed.
Baekhyun did as told and parked in the driveway of a gorgeous two story house.
“I told him we’d be coming so he’s probably expecting us,” Kai said, oblivious to the looks of awe gracing all three of their faces.
The blonde rang the doorbell and waited while the others followed him, looking around at the mini garden in the front yard.
The door opened and a tall, black haired boy with a bright smile greeted them.
“Kai! It’s been so long,” he hugged the blonde.
Kai didn’t hug him back but he seemed pleased.
“Guys, this is my friend. Sehun, meet Hayan, Baekhyun and Krystal.”
Baekhyun couldn’t help but look around the living room curiously.
The entire room looked like it came straight out of an interior design magazine.
There was no doubt in Baekhyun’s mind that Sehun was well off.
‘How does Kai know someone like him?’ he couldn’t help but wonder. ‘Perhaps, he’s his dealer…?’
“Would you like something to eat? I can make fried rice for dinner,” Sehun suggested helpfully.
“No, no, don’t trouble yourself,” Krystal rushed to assure.
Sehun smiled good-naturedly. “It’s no trouble at all. You guys must be tired.”
Baekhyun sipped on his cup of ginger tea, looking around the living room again.
“Hey Sehun, can I take a shower?” Kai asked abruptly.
Sehun seemed undeterred by Kai’s straightforwardness. “Sure,” he nodded to a hallway. “The last door on the left. There should be towels in the cabinet. I’ll lend you a T-shirt and shorts to wear tonight.”
“Thanks,” the blonde muttered before stalking off, his half empty cup of tea forgotten on the table.
Baekhyun waited with bated breath until the sound of the bathroom door closing echoed down the hall. He opened his mouth to question Sehun, but someone beat him to it.
“How do you know Kai, Sehun?” Hayan looked at the black haired boy curiously.
“Oh we went to Seoul National University togeth
