26 - Courage
Little StarPeople started scrambling their way out of the crowd. Baekhyun quickly grabbed Soohyun’s hand as he directed her to where the crystal was. Soohyun ran her way towards the box and already saw Jongin and Baekhyun dealing with the palace’s men. They were both preventing them from coming near Soohyun.
Soohyun took a deep breath as she stood in front of the glass box. It was still unopened because of the sudden interruption though one of the officials dropped the key to open it. Her hands were trembling so bad that it slipped a few times while she tried to slip the key in inside the lock. The loud screaming from everyone who was either panicking or just merely screaming along with others didn’t fail to make her work harder than it already was. She couldn’t focus at all. It was too distracting. Soohyun tried inserting the key once again and was about to turn it to open the lock when she felt a hand forcibly grabbed a fistful of her hair and effectively throwing her to the ground.
Soohyun hissed at the pain when her mask accidentally scraped the side of her cheek as it fell off. She immediately stood up and looked at the person who just grabbed and threw her off the floor. It was an armed guard who was ready to throw his sword at her at anytime. She backed off a few steps as she kept looking back and forth the box and the guard. The guard yelled at his men, ordering to immediately take the box inside. Soohyun’s eyes widened as she saw several guards who quickly made their way towards the box with the sole intention of bringing it back inside. She can’t let that happen. Soohyun glanced back at Baekhyun and Jongin who were still busy dealing with the guards around them. She couldn’t possibly ask for help but she just couldn’t do this alone. With the few seconds left until the guards reached the box, Soohyun called out Jongin’s name.
“Jongin!” Soohyun yelled.
It was Jongin who she called out to because he was faster—he could teleport—and the help she needed would be of something immediate, something Jongin could do in an instant. Jongin looked back and immediately got the message as he looked back at Soohyun who pointed at where the box was. He disappeared in a snap and appeared right in front of the box, right before the guards could even take ahold of it.
Soohyun looked back at the guard who dragged and threw her down. He was effectively blocking her way with his massive stature and there was in no way she could just pass through. He started making his way towards her with his sword dangerously pointing to her. Think fast. Soohyun thought and glanced everywhere as fast as she could. Her eyes caught a sight of what seemed like a dagger lying at the ground. The guard’s footsteps were dangerously getting closer and before he could even slash his sword through her, Soohyun had quickly grabbed the dagger and plunged it straight into his arm.
It was an act out of desperation and adrenaline that Soohyun actually did something like that. Her hands were shaking as she looked at the bloody sight in front of her. Her hand was covered with the guard’s blood and she quickly pulled away from it. Though the guard didn’t actually looked like he took that blow seriously, he still hissed and winced in pain, making it the perfect opportunity for Soohyun to ran away. Soohyun took this chance and made her way towards where the box was.
Soohyun didn’t knew she could run that fast. She reached the box in no time and immediately opened it. She placed her hand inside and took the crystal. Soohyun felt something surge inside her the moment she touched the crystal. Was it because it was too powerful? It almost felt like there was an incredible amount of magic that just went through her in a short amount of time. Was she supposed to feel that? Soohyun held the crystal tight as she looked back at Baekhyun with furrowed eyebrows. Confusion started to fill up her mind as Jongin called out Baekhyun’s name. There was a pleased smile on his face the moment his eyes laid on Soohyun’s hands and he was faster than lightning when he came to their side.
“You did great,” he said. “Now, let’s get out of here,” he then grabbed Soohyun’s hands as they rushed their way out of the hall.
