We entered a little cafe. There weren’t any people besides a group of high school girls near the window. Jaemin fastly walked towards a corner table and pulled a chair for me. “I see you’re no lesser the gentleman than you were.” He mumbled something like, only to you, under his breath but before I had the chance to ask him to repeat he went to the counter to order.
I looked around, the place was decorated really cutely, the tables and chairs had flower printings and the wall was soft pink. This must be a place high school couples come to dates, I thought. Jaemin would take me to places like this all the time when we were in high school. He’d order a latte and a cheesecake for me. He knew just how he could sway me. We’d promise that we’ll only study next time but until our orders arrived we would already be deep in a sweet conversation.
Looking at it now, he was not subtle at all, about the way he felt towards me. He’d tuck my hair behind my ear and get mad when I patted his head and told him how cute he was. He’d wait for me every morning to walk together to school even though I overslept and caused him to be late all the time. I’d always catch him staring when I was tutoring him but couldn’t bring myself to scold him when he scratched the back of his neck and flashed that enchanting smile of him.
I knew what was coming but I was being dense on purpose. I loved his friendship too much and I didn’t want to lose him. Did I love him back? I pushed the question away. I couldn’t do that to her. I had no right to like him. I just wanted everything to stay the same. I avoided his confession countless times, I told him that I saw him only as a little brother but still the time I dreaded, came eventually.
I pulled myself back to the moment as I saw Jaemin was approaching the table. “Here,” he said putting two cups of latte and a big cheesecake piece on the table. He did really grow up. The smile remained same in its place but the way he acted was different now, he was more... grown up.
“What were you thinking about just now?” he peered into my eyes curiously “You were grinning so wide the room brightened.” “I just have really good memories in cafes with you.” I smiled. He smiled even wider and cut a piece from the cheesecake. “I’ll start first.” He said, “I mean I’ll tell you what has been going on but only with the condition that you’ll tell me why you cut all your connection with me.” He held the cake piece out for me. “Really Nana?” I tilted my head left. “Please, noona...” he pouted. He looked too cute like that. I looked around the shop and caught one of the high school girls stealing a glance towards us “If you don’t eat it now, I’ll kneel down and beg you,” he stretched the fork even closer to me. Let’s get this over with quickly, I thought and opened my mouth. He watched me enjoy the cheesecake with an unbelievable amount of love in his eyes. How did I even resist his feeling
