Day 29: Photos
Gingerbread and TinselHyukjae’s phone is always locked. He’s a paranoid bastard, but Donghae can’t argue it’s uncalled for when Heechul has guessed the password and changed the background to his face multiple times.
It’s just past one in the morning after one of their concerts, and chatter in the hotel room has lulled to a comfortable murmur. Hyukjae is hogging the bathroom, leaving Sungmin and Kyuhyun to enjoy the wine they’d smuggled in their bedroom.
They’ve only had this hotel for a couple of days and are due to leave it tomorrow, so it doesn’t quiet feel enough like home for Donghae to feel at ease being in the bedroom alone. He’s lying against an armrest of the couch, staring outside the window and wishing he could turn off all the lights to better see the stars.
Hyukjae’s phone buzzes on the table beside him. Intrigued, Donghae picks it up and stares at the lock-screen, a picture of a Labrador he must’ve found on the internet. He flips the phone in his hand, assessing the strength of his impulse control. He remembers Hyukjae flipping through his phone and laughing at his photos from Hong Kong. He tuts softly and tries his birthday on a hunch, startled to see the phone unlock. The background has changed from the previous photo of his mother to one of him laughing so hard there are tears on his face.
A fond smile slowly pulling at his lips, Donghae navigates to photos and flips through them. Many are of the other members, food and animals, but there are several of Donghae that he doesn’t remember being taken – one of him stuffing his face with a hot dog, one of him cooking in his boxers and one of Hyukjae’s larger shirts, several of him sleeping on couches he can’t recall.
