Donghae knows what Hyukjae is going to say. Still, there’s no satisfaction in a conversation with his stone-faced neighbour that only consists of hello and goodbye. “My stuff was floating again,” he says in greeting as he passes Hyukjae in the apartment hallway.

“Oh my god,” Hyukjae mutters, his expression far from welcoming.

Donghae is nothing if not persistent. “I swear! It was like, two in the morning and a book fell on my face. I woke up and everything was in the air! My bed was in the air! With me in it!” Hyukjae goes to shove past him and Donghae blocks his path with his phone. “Look!”

Hyukjae studies the video with an apathy Donghae hasn’t seen since his Mathematics teacher stopped a class midway to resign. “Nice Photoshop.”

Donghae groans and lets him go. “I’m a paramedic. I can’t even use Paint.” He glances over his shoulder and nearly drops his phone in shock. Hyukjae’s amused smile only widens before he turns the corner and disappears.

The sound of keys hitting the carpet has Donghae turning back to see Sungmin staring at him. “Did that prickly bastard really just smile?”

“I showed him the video,” Donghae sighs, making his way to the apartment beside Sungmin’s. “You’re sure your stuff didn’t go alien and float around?”

Sungmin hums and rearranges his grocery bags to pick up his keys. “Pretty sure Saeun would’ve noticed. I swear, she can hear grass grow. Sorry.”

Donghae frowns and hums in thought. “Maybe you’re too far away? Or maybe I’m crazy.”

“Or maybe you’ve just got bad luck. Weird always seems to happen to you,” Sungmin muses, opening his door with his hip. “Still winning the Lotto?”

Donghae grimaces. “I think they’re going to ban me. Three wins and they think I’m cheating.” He sighs and leans against his doorframe. “I told my mum and brother my predictions, and now they really think I’m cheating. They can’t prove it though, so I’m not too worried.” He hesitates for a moment. “If you ever want a code…”

Sungmin shakes his head with an affectionate smile. “I’m good, thank you. Don’t want you to think I’m using you for money and your pretty face.” Donghae splutters and Sungmin outright laughs at him. “Come over for dinner tonight! You just finished your night shifts, right? Saeun misses you.”

Ducking his head as his cheeks heat, Donghae absently rubs his neck. “Yeah, I finished a couple nights ago. And both times there was weird happening! I filmed it this time and people still think I’m crazy,” he groans.

“As long as you’re not hearing voices of the dead, you’re all good,” Sungmin cackles, entering his room and shutting the door behind him.

Donghae sighs and head into his apartment. He dumps his bag on a chair and heads straight for the shower, knowing full well he’ll pass out as soon as he’s eaten.
