Day 22: Fish
Gingerbread and TinselHyukjae stretches and relaxes into his seat, cracking his neck with a satisfied sigh. “One more hour.”
“I hate Fridays,” Kyuhyun says flatly from the next computer, his eyes roaming carefully over the CT abdomen.
“I have never heard that phrase in my life,” Hyukjae snorts, saving his finished radiology report. “Why?”
“Every minute drags on forever,” Kyuhyun groans. “I’m going blind. Is this just diverticulitis or did they send this for another reason? They didn’t say what the patient presented with.”
“Typical,” Hyukjae mutters as he accepts his next case. “Just look up the patient notes.”
A silence lulls, the occasional typing filling the air as white noise. Kyuhyun’s phone buzzes loudly on the table. Hyukjae shoots him a judging glance and Kyuhyun rolls his eyes at him. “What? It’s not like we’re not allowed to have our phones on us.”
“We shouldn’t though,” Hyukjae says. “It’s unprofessional.”
“Yeah, that’s code for my husband would message me all day every day. I’m not buying it,” Kyuhyun says flatly.
Hyukjae shrugs but doesn’t deny it. “He knows I’m busy. Besides, he’s taking the kids to get a fish today.”
“How exciting,” Kyuhyun drawls.
“Fish are exciting!” Hyukjae says, analysing an X-ray of a fractured foot. “Tanks are expensive though. Like, a hundred dollars. I told him to get a small one.”
Kyuhyun shakes his head slowly. “Too much responsibility. Just watch, the kids will talk him into the biggest fish.”
“Donghae has more sense than that,” Hyukjae says with more certainty than he feels.
After his shift Hyukjae scrolls through the messages on his phone. Kyuhyun watches him with a knowing smirk.
“Oh my god,” Hyukjae groans.
“Who convinced him?” Kyuhyun pulls his backpack out of his locker. “Sua or Siyeon?”
“Both.” Hyukjae hands over his phone and leans against the lockers with a sigh.
