Chapter 3: Smile.

Yuri peered into the classroom nervously as Mrs Park brought Yuri in. Immediately, Yuri was aware of the stares that were directed at her. Mrs Park informed the teacher about Yuri and then left, leaving Yuri a wink as she mouthed good luck.

Yuri, be brave, the new you won’t chicken out like that!

Yuri composed herself and smiled.

The teacher introduced herself as Mrs Kim, her physics teacher and asked Yuri to introduce herself to the class too.

“Annyeong haseyo, Yuri imnida.”

Mrs Kim then told Yuri to sit beside Lee Soon Kyu who was her dorm mate.

Lee Soon Kyu waved her hand up in the air and smiled, so that Yuri would know where she was.

Yuri almost smiled back.

Almost.

I can’t smile, I’m supposed to be a cold person.

So I won’t get hurt anymore.

Yuri walked over to the seat next to Lee Soon Kyu and sat down.

Lee Soon Kyu attempted to start up a conversation, knowing that she was Yuri’s dorm mate.

“Hi Yuri!”

“Hi Lee Soon Kyu”

Lee Soon Kyu winced.

None of her friends had called her by her full name before.

“Yuri, just call me Sunny.”

“Araso, hi Sunny”

“Yuri-ahh, our scho-“

Before Sunny could continue, Yuri interrupted her.

“Sunny, let’s just pay attention to what Mrs Kim is saying.”

“Oh…uhm, yeah sure, talk to you later.”

Yuri did not reply her.

It hurt her to ignore Sunny.

Sunny seems nice. I want to talk to her.

But that bastard seemed nice when I was young too.

I should get to know this Sunny more before I place my trust in her.

I’m not going to let myself be hurt a second time.

For the whole lesson, Yuri fixed her gaze on the teacher.

But none of the words went into her ears.

Yuri tried hard to pay attention but she needed time to adjust herself.

After all, back in Seoul, she used to be the most sociable person in College.

“Kring…Kring..Kring-“

The bell rang, signaling the end of Physics lesson for Yuri’s class.

“Sunny, where do I go now?”

“Oh, just stay with me. We happen to be in all the same classes. It’s break time now.”

“Right, can I go to the restroom?”

“Sure! It’s just around the corner when you exit the classroom. Need me to bring you there?”

“No, will you just…just wait for me here?”

“Yes! Hurry now, don’t let your bladder wait.”

As Sunny said the last sentence, Yuri almost burst into laughter.

But she controlled herself well and leaked out only a tiny grin.

Meanwhile, Sunny caught Yuri’s grin and smiled inwardly to herself.

“I’ll be back in a minute.”

Yuri told Sunny before leaving the class.

Yuri followed Sunny’s directions and was about to turn around the corner when she collided with another student. Both of them fell onto their bottoms.

“Ouch!”

“Omo, are you okay? I’m really sorry!”

Yuri was about to reassure the male student that she was alright when her protective mode switched on.

Remember, I’m not supposed to be nice!

“Thanks a lot for bumping into me, Mister.”

Yuri complained, pulling her act well.

She was sad that she had to say that.

In fact, she was shocked.

But well, it was to prevent her from getting hurt.

It’s worth it.

Yuri glanced up at the male student who kneeled down, looking at her, concerned.

He’s cute.

Wait, stop it Kwon Yuri.

You need to be mean.

“I’m sorry, really! Are you hurt in any way?”

“Just go away, will you?”

“Well…you’re a new student, aren’t you? I’m Nichkhun and I haven’t seen you around before. If you’re seriously in pain, let me help you. I won’t bite. ”

“I SAID I’M FINE. You’re such a nag.”

Yuri stormed off to the toilet, leaving Nichkhun.

Nichkhun just smiled.

She’s one of a kind.
