Chapter 1: Change.

“Leave NOW.”

“Please…Give me a chance!”

“You know what? You’re absolutely worthless and a good for nothing. You do not even qualify to serve me. So you better leave or I’ll call up the security guards.”

Yuri saw the scene unfolding as she hid behind the large door. It wasn’t her first time seeing her father firing away at a worker but Yuri felt that it was too much. She marched up bravely to her father and tried to reason with him.

“Daddy, seriously, he only dropped a figurine. It’s not like we can’t afford another one. Besides, Uncle Tim has been our faithful housekeeper for 3 years and he has been doing a pretty good job. It’s his first mistake. To err is human and I think you shouldn’t just fire him like that.”

The worker shot a grateful glance to Yuri for putting in good words for him.

“Yuri dear, it’s precisely because he has been working for us for 3 years already and yet, he commits such mistake that I want to fire him. It gives him no reason to break ANYTHING.”

“But…”

“No buts. I’m the master of this house and I have the final say.”

Yuri was pissed.

Fine, she has never been able to convince her Dad anyway.

“Sorry Uncle Tim, I hope you find a better employer to work for.”

Yuri emphasized on the words better employer so that her father would know that it was directed to him.

Her father got the cue.

“Thank you Ms Yuri, I’ll miss you definitely.”

Her father snorted.

“Who gave you the permission to miss her? You’re just a lowly servant.”

Uncle Tim ignored his remarks and walked off coolly.

Then, Yuri’s nightmare arrived.

“Yuri, how dare you talk back to me just now?! How many times have you done that?! This is utter disrespect for me. I’m your dad and without me, there wouldn’t be you today!”

Yuri rolled her eyes.

“I wasn’t talking back. I was reasoning and I felt the need to do so. You were unreasonable and you have always been! Talk about respect. You don’t even have the slightest respect for anybody. What makes you think you should gain the respect from anybody? I’m feeling shamed having you as my dad.”

Yuri blurted out her heartfelt feelings.

It was a first.

But she did not regret it.

“YURI!!! You...you…you ungrateful lad! You need to learn how to have manners! I’m going to send you to Chang Mal College and you are going to survive on your OWN!”

“FINE. LIFE’S TOUGH WITH YOU ANYWAY, I RATHER SURVIVE ON MY OWN. YOU , I HATE YOU AND I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU EVER AGAIN!!!”

Yuri stormed to her room and sniffed as she tried to control her tears.

She started packing her clothes and necessaries into a large suitcase.

I’ll probably be gone forever.

I should pack everything that I’ll miss.

Yuri then dumped all her beloved stuff into the suitcase as well.

Well, there she was.

Along with her stuff and ready to go.

Wait, I have got to write a letter to Rae Nin Unnie and Do Sun. I won’t be able to tell them this personally. It’ll hurt too much.

Rae Nin and Do Sun were Yuri’s best friends. Yuri didn’t want to leave without leaving a note. Thus, she wrote a lengthy letter to the both of them and placed them into her bag.

Yuri glanced at herself in the mirror.

This is it Kwon Yuri. Say goodbye to your heartless dad.

Yes, Yuri was a strong girl. She was going to take on a new character. She won’t allow herself to be hurt anymore.

Yuri walked down the flight of staircase as she lugged her suitcase down to the living room. Yuri’s parents were there, with her dad still fuming.

Yuri’s mother saw her and gasped.

“Yuri ahh! Where are you going with that luggage?”

“Mom, I’m leaving. Good luck with that bastard.”

“WHAT? Where are you going? What’s happening?”

“Don’t ask me, Mom. I’ll miss you and I want you to know that I’ll love you forever. I’m going to survive on my own and take you away from this horrible home when I’m financially stronger. Till then, be safe.”

“Wha-”

Yuri’s dad butted into the mother and daughter conversation.

“Leave her. It was my idea. She has no manners at all and she will learn her lesson when she gets to Chang Mal. Shin Young has got the ticket already, as I’ve instructed. It’s on the table.”

“SHE’S ONLY EIGHTEEN! HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO HER?! AND OF ALL PLACES, CHANG MAL?!”

Yuri watched emotionlessly as she grabbed the ticket from the table and left without a word.

Not letting her parents know as they continued bickering.

(A/N) Hello,sorry if this chapter is kinda boring but it's really necessary cos it explains vaguely about why Yuri turns out so coldly in the story. Bear with me and I'll promise it won't turn out boring. :)
