Chapter 4: Tough.

As Yuri looked at herself in the toilet mirror, she heaved a sigh of relief.

She needn’t act anymore.

It was tough, but she did alright.

After her business, Yuri walked back to the classroom to find Sunny laughing at a book she was reading. Puzzled, Yuri went to peep at what she was reading.

“What’s making you laugh, Sunny?”

“It’s…HAHAHAHAHA, this joke…”

Before Sunny could finish her sentence, she fell over her chair, laughing.

Yuri sighed and looked at the joke.

Tears welled up in Yuri’s eyes as she read the joke.

It’s not funny at all.

It’s horrible.

It’s what that bastard used to tell me when I was young.

Yuri’s father had told her that joke when she was a young child and it never failed to crack her up.

But now, that joke was just a piece of terrible memory.

“Yuri-shii, why aren’t you laughing? It’s funny!”

“It’s not funny at all.”

Yuri clenched her teeth as she said that and Sunny was taken aback by surprise.

Oops, did I…mention something that was sensitive to Yuri?

“Uhm, I’m sorry Yuri. Yeah, it’s kind of lame actually…”

Sunny trailed off, not knowing how to continue.

Yuri then realized that she was being mean.

Too mean.

After all, Sunny hadn’t meant any harm.

“It’s okay, Sunny. I was just being cranky.”

“Jjinja? So you don’t blame me?”

“Aniyo, I don’t. Let’s just forget about it and go for our next class, alright?”

“Oh…okay.”

They packed their stuff and walked to their next class which was Mathematics.

When they reached, the teacher had already arrived.

Yuri then explained that she was a new student.

“Oh, you’re a new student?”

“Neh, I’m Kwon Yuri from Seoul.”

“Ahh, alright, why don’t you introduce yourself to the class?”

Yuri sighed.

Seriously, do I have to do this for every class?

“Annyeong haseyo, Yuri imnida”

What Yuri didn’t know was that, Nichkhun, the same boy whom she had refused to tell her name to, was in her class.

Ahh, so Yuri’s her name.

The teacher informed Yuri that he was Mr Lee and asked if she was good in Math.

“So Yuri-shii, are you good in Mathematics?”

“Mathematics is my forte among the rest of the subjects, so you may say so.”

“Well, you see, Mathematics is taught differently in our school and I’m afraid you may encounter difficulties despite the fact that Mathematics is your forte. So, I want you to sit beside Nichkhun, he’s the best in Mathematics here. He can help to guide you along whenever you have problems.”

Nichkhun.

Yuri played around with that name in her mind.

It seemed oddly familiar.

Nichkhun raised his hand to let her identify him, with a smirk plastered onto his face.

Oh no.

This must be a joke.

Of all people, him?!

Yuri reluctantly dragged her feet towards the seat next to Nichkhun and sat down.

Nichkhun then turned around and grinned at her.

“Hey Yuri, what a coincidence. It’s fate, isn’t it?”

“Since when was it fate, huh?”

“You refused to tell me your name previously, but it just so happens that you’re in my class and my desk partner at that too.”

“It’s coincidence. Not fate, get your facts right.”

“Wow, you are a tough girl, aren’t you?”

“SHUSH. I want to listen to the teacher, stop babbling away. I really wonder how you get top in class for Mathematics with that mouth of yours.”

“I’m naturally smart!”

Yuri didn’t reply again, like what happened to Sunny.

She just snorted at his self praise.

That snort, in turn made Nichkhun laugh silently.

Oh yes, she’s a tough nut.

The toughest one I’ve seen.

She’s interesting.
