Star in the Mist

A few weeks passed.
The relationship you thought you two had mend was suddenly fragile again.
Without dinner, you wouldn't even see him.
There were no longer meaningful conversations.
He’d sleep his side of the bed, and that was all.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Woohyun distancing himself from you felt worse than living with your stepmom and Daehi.
A part of you wanted to ask him, but then there was another part that just wondered if he needed space.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
“Woohyun.”
He looked up from his phone.
His eyes weren't the same; it looked darker than what you remember.
“Have you been okay these days?”
“Yea, why?”
“It’s nothing," you smiled, shaking your head.
You sat there quietly, and he went back on his phone.

You got up from your seat and made your way to the stair, planning to go the bedroom.
Just do it.
You encouraged yourself.
You took a deep breath and walked back down, facing him.
“Did you want to plant some flowers with me?”

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You sat on the grass, next to a bed of soil.
Woohyun sat next to you.
His presence was enough to wake the butterflies in your stomach.
“So, where do we start?” he asked, wearing the gloves.
This was quite new for you.
You have never taught anyone how to garden, but it was something you’ve always wanted to do.

You handed him a fork hoe.
“What do I do with this?” he asked, taking the tool from your hand.
“This tool shapes and loosens the soil.”
You grabbed another pair.
"Like this," you said, as you ran the tool on top of the soil.
“This is so we can evenly plant the seeds,” you told him as you continue running the fork hoe on the soil.
You stopped and looked at him.
“Did you want to try?”
Normally, he’d give you a smile or something.
This time, there was no reaction.
Woohyun took the fork hoe and ran it across the patterns you had already created.
“Like this?” he asked as he continue running the patterns.
You nodded.

You noticed that he looked bored.
Grabbing his hand caught his attention, making him glance at you.
“It’s okay if you’re not into gardening, or planting flowers, I can do it."
Deep inside, you felt a little hurt.
He seemed to change that part of him, his curiosity.
Woohyun didn’t say anything, besides setting the tool down and walking back to the house.
You softly sighed and continued working on the garden alone.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Woohyun stood behind the glass door; his eyes were on you.
So, you really don’t know what you did wrong, ---------.
He wondered.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You walked inside the house after gardening, only to be greeted with silence.
“What did I do wrong?” you whispered to yourself.
It felt odd that he wasn’t as cheerful and playful as he usually was.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You hopped off the bus, taking a deep breath.
Everything’s fine.
You told yourself.
You walked to the river, sitting down on the grass.

You listened to the small waves clash each other, the low mumbles of conversations around you.
Did he find out about the contract?
Why is he ignoring me?
Did I do something wrong?
Does he want to break it off?
Does he know I lied about that night?

There were so many possible reasons to why, but you couldn’t pick one to be the reason.
You sighed, looking out at the river.
The sun was slowly setting, its ray twinkling on the water.
Time. I just need to give him time.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
With the sky turning a shade darker, It was your sign you had to get back home.
You stood up, patting the dirt off your bottom, giving the water one last look.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You sat on the bench, patiently waiting for the next stop.
Your mind was constantly on him.
“-----------!”
You glanced up.
“Minho!” You smiled, knowing that you needed a friend at the moment.
“What are you doing here?” He asked, sitting next to you.
“Just waiting for the bus to go home. What about you?”
“Same.”
“You’re not working tonight?”
“I’m off tonight.”
“That’s great. That place can be a little overwhelming.”
“Is that why you left?”
“No, I wanted to leave that place for a while now. Just finally got to step away.”
Minho nodded his head understandingly.
“I’m planning to leave soon as well.”
“Really? I thought you liked it there.”
“It’s okay. I just want to try something else,” he smiled.
“Yea, of course. There’s lots of opportunities out there for you. I hope you find one soon,” you returned the smile.
“Thank you!”
Minho thought for a second to himself.
“Hey, did you want to go out for dinner?”

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You two sat across from each other.
“Where do you work now?” Minho asked, taking a sip of his coke.
“I’m still working at that shop at the mall.”
“I hope your stepsister is helping a bit now.”
“Minho, I actually got married.”
His eyes widened.
“What?”
"Yea, I got married a few months ago."
Thinking back to that day, it brought you a smile.
“To who? You never told me!”
Minho wanted to hear all about it.
“No, it was a small wedding.”
“Let me see your husband,” he asked.
You thought a bit before pulling out your phone to show him a picture of Woohyun.
Looking through your gallery, you pulled a picture of you two on your wedding day.
You passed your phone to Minho.
Minho’s eyes widened.
His mouth agape.
“You’re married to him?!” his eyes glued to the picture.
You slowly nodded your head.
“Nam Woohyun?”
You were a little surprised.
“Do you know him?”
“Of course! He’s a CEO, isn’t he?”
“How do you know that?”
“Yah, --------! Your husband is all over the newspaper. Who wouldn’t know him?” he chuckled, giving your phone back.

Once Minho mentioned that, it brought memories of the day those girls recognized you at the mall.
“Am I under his league?” you asked.
Minho looked up, confused with your question.
“What do you mean?”
“It’s nothing,” you chuckled, brushing it off.
“Yah, if anything, he’s definitely not in your league.”
“Thank you, Minho,” you chuckled.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
I should text him.
You thought.
“Excuse me, Minho.”
Minho nodded his head, understandingly.
You stepped the bathroom, pulling out your phone again.

You: Woohyun, I will be home late. 9:40PM/21:40

Sent.
──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───

You walked back to the table, and Minho had already began cooking the bulgogi.
You smiled upon your return.
“Everything okay?”
You nodded.
Deep inside, everything wasn’t okay. Woohyun was ignoring you and you had no idea why.
Though you and Minho celebrated a friend’s reunion, your mind was constantly on Woohyun, waiting for that text from him.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
“Is everything okay? You’ve been looking a little weird ever since we came out,” Myungsoo asked, as they both walked together.
“What do you do when someone lies to you?”
“Confront them.”
“What if I want them to confess?”
“If someone lied, I don’t think they’ll voluntarily confess. You’d have to fish it out from them.”
Woohyun thought about Myungsoo’s words.
“Why? Did Sunggyu lie about something?” Myungsoo asked, curious as to why Woohyun asked.
“It’s not you guys,” Woohyun sighed.
“Employees?”
“Not them,” he shook his head.
“Your mom?”
“It’s not her.”
“…your wife?”
Woohyun looked at Myungsoo, as he guessed it correctly this time.
“Confront her.”
“I don’t know. I just never thought she would do something like that.”
“It’s never going to get resolve if you don’t confront her about it. The worst possible outcome is that she’s going to continue lying to you.”
“You’re right, Myungsoo.”
“Good luck! I hope everything’s fine.”
“Thank you!”
“Did you need a ride back?” Myungsoo asked.
“it’s okay. Get home safely!"

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Woohyun thought about Myungsoo’s words, again.
What Myungsoo said was completely right.
Ding!
He snapped out of his thoughts, pulling out his phone.
He noticed it was a text message from you.
Should I?
He thought, before swiping right, dismissing your text.

Woohyun waited for the pedestrian light.
He looked across the street.
Squinting his eyes, he thought he saw you.
The orange light , signaling his right to cross the street safely.
The closer he got to the person, the clearer it became.
You were laughing with a guy, as he saw.
His brows arched in confusion and anger.
Myungsoo’s words replayed.
“The worst possible outcome is that she’s going to continue lying to you.”

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
“Thank you for dinner, Minho! I really appreciate it,” you smiled.
“Of course. It’s nothing. We should catch up again!”
“We should. I’ll introduce you to Woohyun,” you laughed.
“I still can’t believe you didn’t invite me to your wedding,” he teased.
“It was a last-minute thing. I promise that you’ll meet him properly.”
“I’ll take your words for it.”
“Thank you for tonight, again. I really needed a friend.”
“No problem! You have my number, so call me anytime!”

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
The bus stopped.
“Are you sure you don’t need me to walk your house?” Minho asked again.
“Yea, I’ll be fine. It’s just a five minutes’ walk. Good night and get home safely!”
“Thank you! Same goes to you."

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You got off the bus and waved to Minho, who waved back to you.
Once the bus disappeared, you started your journey back.
You counted the stars in the sky, hoping that it’d slow time down.
It wasn’t that you didn’t want to go home.
You didn’t want to see Woohyun ignoring you again.
You pulled out your phone.
There was no notification from him.
You threw your phone back in your bag and sighed.
Maybe he's sleeping.
You started coming up with good excuses to why Woohyun acted the way he was.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Just as you approached up to the gate, Woohyun walked from the other side.
You two stopped for a second staring at each other.
Your inner self wanted to run to him and ask where he went.
The other part told you to stop and give him space.
His stare seemed dark the longer you looked at them.
Woohyun broke away from the eye contact and continued walking towards you.

He stood in front of you, while you froze on the spot.
Just as you were going to say something to him, he was quicker than you were.
“Are you going to open the gate?”
His voice sounded cold.
You regained your composure, snapping back to yourself.
“Ah, yes,” you managed to say.
You entered the code and the gate opened.
Woohyun brushed past you, walking inside first.
Your eyes watered, as you stood there, puzzled.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
A week passed; nothing seemed to get better.
Woohyun started giving you the cold shoulder.
Dinner became a one-person thing.
There were hardly any conversations now.
The house seemed colder too.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
“Hello, I’m paying for a bill today,” you greeted the teller.
She pulled up your information.
“How much will you be paying today?”
“135,000 won,” you handed her the money.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You walked out of the bank, reading the receipt.
3,000,000 won. Almost there.
You thought.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You sat in the bus, looking out the window, heading to work.
Ding!
You pulled your phone out of your bag.
You were shocked.
It was his name attached to that notification.
You smiled, feeling excited to why he texted.

Woohyun: 5:00PM/17:00-Dress nicely tonight. 10:30AM/10:30

“Dress nicely tonight.”
You read.
Why?

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You sat in the living room, waiting for his return.
You didn’t know if he was back to himself.
You thought about it and was a little excited that it was a possible date night; something that you missed so much.
He was no longer pushing you away, you thought.

You had on a midi green skirt and a beige knitted sweater, paired with a low, black heels.
Your hair was curled in a wavy-beach style.
Your lips were colored in a -pinkish tone.
The natural pink was enough to cover as blush.
Your heart raced, nervous about seeing him.

Within a few minutes, Woohyun entered the house.
You stood up from your seat to greet him, only for him to walk past you, ignoring your presence.
Your smile turned to a frown.
This isn’t a date.
You thought.
You sat back down and waited for him.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Woohyun walked down the stairs with a new outfit on.
He wore black pants and paired it with a light, forest green sweater, and a black watch around his wrist.
You stood up from your seat after hearing his footsteps.
He didn’t say anything to you, but you understood the agenda.
You closed the door, trailing behind him.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You sat in the passenger’s seat, looking out the window.
Why did the ride seem so long to you?
He didn’t compliment you nor did he say hi.
You softly sighed, holding back the tears.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Woohyun parked the car, and you looked out.
It was white villa.
There were many cars parked along the side.
You saw a few couples getting out from their car.
Others came with friends.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You looked over at Woohyun.
“Where is this? What’s the event?”
Woohyun ignored you and walked out first.
You wondered why he was being so mean to you.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You stood next to him.
Nothing was the same.
You didn’t know this Woohyun.
You took a deep breath, holding onto your clutch tightly with one hand.
As unaware as you were, Woohyun grabbed your hand, startling you.
You felt an electric wave throughout your arm.
“W-what are you doing?” You asked, surprised by his action.
Woohyun ignored your question as he proceeded to walk inside the place.

“Woohyun! ---------! You guys finally made it!”
Woohyun smiled upon seeing Hoya.
He let your hands go, giving Hoya a hug.
Hoya turned to you, giving a warm hug to you as well.
“I’m so glad you guys made it!”
“Anything for you, buddy!” Woohyun smiled.
By chance, you got to see the smile you missed seeing so much.
“Thank you for coming to my housewarming party!” Hoya thanked.
“O-oh, we didn’t bring anything for you,” you upsettingly said.
“Oh? Woohyun already dropped the gift last night,” Hoya smiled.
You turned to look at Woohyun, hoping to get a response from him, but nothing.
“Congratulations, Hoya-shi!” You smiled.
“Thank you! Pease enjoy yourself! Drinks are in the kitchen. Food are in the backyard.”
You bowed in respect to Hoya before he left.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You stood behind Woohyun, while he greeted a few mutual friends.
“Woohyun.”
By surprise, Woohyun looked over his shoulder.
“I’m going to go to the restroom,” you told him.
He didn’t reply, instead he went back to talk with his friends.
You bowed to his friends, excusing yourself from the group.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You walked to the bathroom, taking a few deep breaths.
“Just a few hours.”
You thought to yourself.
You practiced a smile in the mirror, before walking out.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
“--------!”
You looked ahead and saw Sunggyu.
You bowed upon seeing him.
“Hi, Sunggyu-shi!”
“What are you doing here?”
“Ah, I just went to the restroom.”
“Oh, I thought Woohyun left you.”
“No, he’s talking to a few friends outside,” you smiled.
“He’s not bullying you, is he?”
“No,” you laughed.
“Okay, I just wanted to make sure. I saw that he was acting a little weird earlier.”
You were surprised that his friends could read him.
“Oh, it’s nothing. He’s probably just tired from work. We’re fine, though,” you lied.
You wanted to talk to someone about it, but there really was no one that you could confide in.
“Woohyun is actually a good person to talk to. Don’t be scared to talk to him if something feels wrong,” Sunggyu advised.
“Thank you,” you smiled.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You walked past the kitchen only to be stopped by Dongwoo.
“Oh -------!”
You smiled and bowed.
“Hi, Dongwoo-shi! I haven’t seen you all night. You just got here?”
“Ah yea, I had quite a drive,” he laughed.
“We’re glad you’re here!”
“You’re enjoying yourself?”
You smiled and nodded, though half of that was a lie.
“Here! One for you and one for Woohyun,” Dongwoo said, handing you two cups of mojitos.
“Thank you, Dongwoo!” you thanked, accepting the drinks.
“I’ll meet you outside,” he smiled.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You walked outside with two drinks, one in each hand.
“Woohyun,” you called.
He turned around, revealing the person he was talking to him.
You froze there for a second.
She smiled and waved at you.
“What do you need?”
His question snapped you back to reality.
“This is yours,” you said, handing him his drink.
As Woohyun took his drink, she smiled and walked to you, grabbing the other drink our of your grasp.
“Thank you, ----------shi!”
She walked back and stood next to Woohyun.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You knew you had no right to say anything.
You wanted Woohyun to say something to you, but he kept quiet.
His full attention was towards Jihyun, while you stood behind him.

“Jihyun-shi, what are you doing here?”
You looked behind and saw Sungyeol.
You bowed to him.
“I’m talking to a friend,” she replied.
“Right, Woohyun?” She asked Woohyun.
“She’s with me, Sungyeol,” Woohyun answered.
You felt a sharp pain on your chest, hearing those words from his mouth.
“What are you talking about? You’re here with your wife, --------, who’s standing in front of me,” Sungyeol corrected.
Woohyun took a quick glance at you, then he looked at Sungyeol.
“Sungyeol-ah, Jihyun’s a friend. You guys know her.”
Sungyeol sighed, annoyed with Woohyun’s attitude.
“It’s okay, Sungyeol-shi,” you smiled, assuring Sungyeol.
He gave you a “are you sure?” look.
You smiled and nodded.
Shortly after, Sungyeol excused himself.
You stood behind him, your back facing his,, while he spoke to Jihyun.
You observed everyone; it felt as if you had fun watching everyone having fun.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
“Woohyun, what are you doing tomorrow?”
You didn’t want to eavesdrop, but you had to.
“Why?”
“Should we go to Lotto World?” Jihyun asked.
Woohyun thought to himself for a few minutes.
What are you doing to say?
You thought, waiting for his answer.
“Oppa, like old times,” Jihyun said, as she looked for a reaction from you.

You walked away before hearing his answer.
It was too much for you.
You stood in the kitchen, taking a few deep breaths.
Your eyes watered, holding them back.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Once you gained composure, you planned on returning outside to join with the others.
Just as you were about to take a step outside, you stopped.
You stood by the door, looking out to the yard.
Jihyun closed the gap between her and Woohyun, whispering something to him; her lips so close to him.
Before Jihyun could finish what she planned, you turned away.
Though music blasted in the yard, and friends conversing loudly, all you heard was the sound of your heartbeat beating faster.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You exited the place through the front.
You walked on the sidewalk, taking a few seconds to yourself.
There was nothing to think anymore.
You saw no point of staying any longer.

Before you could do so, Myungsoo stopped you.
“----------!”
You looked over your shoulder.
“Myungsoo!” You managed to smile.
“Are you and Woohyun already leaving?” Myungsoo asked, as he looked around for Woohyun.
“I…..I’m not feeling well, so I’m going to leave first. Woohyun is still talking to a few friends.”
“Are you okay?”
“I think I just need to sleep a bit,” you laughed, hoping that Myungsoo would buy your lie.
“Did you want me to drop you off?”
“It’s okay! I’ll take the bus.”
“Does Woohyun know that you're leaving?”
You thought for a while.
“Could you pass the message to him?”
“Let me go get him.”
You grabbed Myungsoo’s arm, stopping him.
“I didn’t want to bother him. Can you just let him know that I left first?” you asked Myungsoo.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
A tear rolled down each step you took, blurring your vision.
It’s okay. He needs time.
You thought.
Aish, why am I crying? There’s nothing to cry about.
You wiped your tears away, approaching the bench.
You sat and waited for the bus.
You thought about what went wrong.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───

“Oppa, are you really going to Lotto World with me tomorrow?” Jihyun asked right in his ear, smirking as she saw you leave.
She was going to do anything to get Woohyun back.
Woohyun took a step back, knowing that he was a married man.
“What makes you think that I’m going with you?” he asked, looking at Jihyun.
Jihyun’s smile faded away.
“Didn’t you say you were going with me earlier?” Jihyun whined.
“I didn’t. Don’t assume it,” Woohyun said, before walking away.
“WOOHYUN!” Jihyun yelled out, catching the attention of some friends around the area, while Woohyun ignored her calls.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Woohyun walked inside the house.
“Are you looking for ---------?”
Woohyun turned around to see Myungsoo.
“Myungsoo-ah, have you seen her?” Woohyun asked with concern.
“I saw her when I went to go get my phone from the car.”
"Is she still there?"
“Actually, she asked me to tell you that she left since she wasn’t feeling well,” Myungsoo said.
“Not feeling well?” Woohyun questioned.
“I don’t know. That’s what she said,” Myungsoo shrugged.
“Thank you, Myungsoo,” Woohyun said, setting his drink down on the kitchen counter.
“I think she’s heading to the bus stop. She said she’d be taking the bus home,” Myungsoo advised.
Woohyun smiled and nodded before taking his leave.

──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
Woohyun parked his car along the side to the nearest bus stop.
He got out and searched for you.
He felt worried, knowing that you were not feeling well.

A smile formed on his face, when he saw you sitting on a bench at the bus stop, just as he suspected.
Just as Woohyun was about to approach you, he stopped when a man came behind you.
His hand on your shoulder, you turning around, hugging him.
