Chapter 1

I will always be there for you

Chapter 1

*In class.*
Guigui had her chin propped up on her hand as she sat there slouched in her seat. Social Studies was torture. Who cared about world history? She wanted to be a pianist or singer when she grew up... you don't need to know about history to do that. Flipping her black hair out of her eyes, she let her eyes wander, until they fell onto Aaron. Aaron Yan. He was perfect. So good-looking, funny, charming and best of all, he's really nice. Well... when you get to know him, that is. She tilted her head as her shiny lips curled up in a smile. Everytime, she saw Aaron... it made her smile. He was just so... perfect. He was also really smart. She watched closely, as he sat there, biting his lip, concentrating hard on the teacher and taking notes. Guigui suddenly felt a kick at her chair. "Huh?" she turned around, it was her best friend Hebe.

"Teacher asked you a question." Hebe whispered urgently.

Guigui immediately whipped back forward and looked at the teacher. "Uh.. yes?"

The teacher sighed, "Can you answer this question for the class, Miss Wu?"

"Ummm... can you repeat the question?" Guigui asked sheepishly. [Gosh... I should seriously pay more attention in class...]

A couple of kids laughed at Guigui.

Aaron immediately glared at them, "Oh, shut up."

Guigui smiled at Aaron. [Oh well.. it's worth it. Seeing Aaron stand up for me like that makes me so happy... even getting embarrassed in front of the class is worth it. He would never do that for anyone else. Only me or Hebe... not even his other guy friends. That's because Hebe, him, and I have been close friends ever since we were in our diapers.]

"Guigui... pay attention in class. If I catch you daydreaming again, you're getting detention after school."

"Sorry." Guigui felt someone poke her in the shoulder, it was Hebe. She turned around when the teacher wasn't looking, "Yeah?"

Hebe looked at her worried, "You seriously need to pay more attention in class. You can't get a detention today... we're going shopping after school, remember?"

Guigui clapped her hand over , "Oh no! Oops... I sorta forgot... again Hebe. I have other plans... how about we go tomorrow? I promise I won't forget!"

Hebe sighed and nodded.

Guigui turned back around and continued to stare out the window, not paying attention... again. [Hebe's perfect too, just like Aaron. No wonder she likes Aaron. After all, since they're both so perfect... I guess they were just made for each other. After all, Hebe has killer looks, and has all the guys in the school drooling over her... except for Aaron of course, thankfully. I'm so jealous of her long and curly dark brown hair. It's so silky and soft.] Guigui played with her hair. [Mine is okay I guess. But not as shiny as Hebe's. And plus, Hebe's a great friend, she's so loyal and forgiving... this is like the millionth time I've forgot about a shopping date and she ALWAYS forgives me.]

The bell rang, signaling the end of school.

Hebe patted down her perfect curls and went over to Aaron. "Hey Aaron."

Guigui put her books into her bag and heaved it onto her shoulder. She watched, green with envy, as Hebe talked to Aaron. Pushing away those thoughts, she hurried out the room. "Bye Hebe, bye Aaron!!" she called over her shoulder.

"Bye!!" Guigui heard them both reply at the same time.

Guigui sighed as she hurried down the hallway. [They're so perfect for each other, that they even say things at the same time.]

* * *

Guigui went into the music room. "Mr. Lin! It's me, Guigui!"

Mr. Lin came out and tugged on his tie. "Oh, Guigui, it's you." he smiled, "You're always on time, aren't you? Well, the room's all yours! If you need me, I'll be in the staff room." He plopped his keys down on the desk in his office and left the room.

Guigui smiled and took the keys. She went over to the door of the music room and locked it. [Mr. Lin is so nice... he lets me come here on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school to just play the piano for an hour or so. He knows how I don't like being disturbed.] She carefully walked over to the upright piano which was sitting in the corner of the room. The entire room was pretty much empty except for the piano, stacks of chairs against a wall and some cabinets on the side. That's why she liked it. The room seemed so peaceful and spacious. There were usually chairs stacked in rows in the middle of the room for band practices but at the end of the day, they'd always be stacked in nice neat piles against the wall. Guigui sat down on the piano bench and lifted up the piano's cover. She placed her bag on the ground against the bench and took out a folder with all her songs in it. She opened it to the song that she had been practicing and started playing. Guigui was musically talented. She taught herself how to play the piano, with some help from Mr. Lin a few years ago and she learned it very quickly. She could've asked her mom for lessons, but then that'd mean she'd have to practice at home and her parents would be there to listen. She hated audiences when she was playing the piano or singing. Nobody knew about her love for music, except for Mr. Lin of course. Not even Hebe or Aaron knew. As Guigui played, she sang the lyrics to the song. [A/N: she's playing the song Ke Ai. You might want to listen to this song as you read this. It'll give it more of a "feel".]

* * *

Aaron was walking towards the computer room. He needed to print something out before he went home, that's why he declined Hebe when she asked him to go shopping with her. As he walked down the quiet hallway, he heard faint sounds of someone playing on the piano. As he got closer, he heard that not only was the person playing beautifully, but she also had the sweetest voice. He stopped outside the music room and tried to open the door but it was locked. He stood outside for a while, just listening to the playing and singing. It was so beautiful. He was completely captured by the sweetness of this girl's voice and the graceful playing of the piano. "I wonder who that is."

* * *

Guigui closed her eyes as she played and she sung her heart out. Her body moved gracefully to the rhythm of the song. She got to the chorus of the song and she played and sang with even more feeling, this was her favourite part of the entire song.

* * *

Aaron smiled. [I feel like I can stand here forever, and just listen. It's so peaceful and capturing.] The song ended. He sighed, a little disappointed, as he continued to make his way to the computer room.

* * *

Guigui smiled, satisfied. Then she bit her lip with determination. [I know I can do even better than that.] She raised her hands above the piano's keyboard, and started to play again.

* * *

After about half an hour, Aaron walked past, ready to go home. To his surprise, the girl was still playing. So Aaron stood there, outside the music room door, continuing to listen. His eyes closed as he smiled. After the girl had played it several times, he was so into the song, that he could even hum the chorus to it.

* * *

Guigui finally stopped playing. She checked the watch on her wrist. "I should probably go home now. I'll come back on Friday." She put the folder back into her bag and closed the piano lid. She started towards the door.

* * *

Aaron heard footsteps towards the door. He immediately ran and hid behind a corner.

* * *

Guigui took the keys and unlocked the door. She put the keys back down and opened the door. She made her way down the hallway, towards the exit, continuing to quietly sing the chorus to Ke Ai.

* * *

Aaron peeked out carefully and saw the back of the girl, walking farther down the hallway. He saw that the girl had long black hair. He turned back and leaned against the wall. [For some reason, she seems really familiar.... but I can't quite figure out who she is. Oh, whatever. Wait! I know, I'll go and catch up to her! Yeah!] He stepped out from behind the corner and looked around. The girl was gone.
