Chapter 7
From Dawn Till DuskIt was already noon the next day, when Dongwan had finally did what he had planned all along: to clean up the garden and beautify it. While the entire process took longer than expected, since he was not familiar with all these, it gave him immense satisfaction and happiness to see that his house was one more step nearer to being his.
Seeing that it was already past noon once he finally rested, Dongwan was much too tired to do anything else, other than calling for delivery in order to fill his growling stomach. He was not one to waste time, hence no matter how tired, he still dragged his tired self to get his laptop and finish some work while waiting.
It was unusally peaceful today, Dongwan felt, and he was glad about it. The quietness that he had always craved for, this was finally the time he could enjoy it. Yet he couldn’t help but feel something amiss, that deep in his heart, he secretly wished for something more. He didn’t know what it was though, thus that feeling was deemed as useless and quickly thrown away to the wind.
The delivery came almost an hour later, in which Dongwan didn’t really feel hungry anymore by then. He still answered the door, knowing that it must have took anyone a long ride to reach here since it was the most deserted place of the neighbourhood. He was met with curious eyes once he opened to door, and even as the young man passed him his meal and received change, the wide eyes peppered with curiosity and a little fear never ceased.
“Is there anything wrong?” Dongwan asked, a little uncomfortable at how the young man was looking at him, more so at his house.
“Oh!” Seeing that Dongwan had spoken to him, the young man shook his head wildly, “Not really. I’m just rather shocked that someone actually bought this house, since it had been deserted for the longest time anyone knew…”
“It was offered to me at a rather low price, I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t have wanted it. It’s a nice place with a sea view, a good place for healing.” Dongwan shrugged.
“Oh! No, no! Even if it was offered at a low price, no one wanted it. Tell me, have you met any unwanted beings or was there any disturbance caused?” The young man asked, and Dongwan cocked his head in thought. Unwanted beings? Check. Disturbance caused? Check. Yet as he look into those eyes of the man, he couldn’t help but think if he said yes, rumours might spread again. Now, that would be worse than unwanted beings and disturbances. For all he knew, the people from the neighbourhood might just call up an exorcist and rack his entire place down.
“No, it’s rather peaceful here. Nothing has happened. Why do you ask?” Dongwan asked innocently.
“Is that so? Then what did I see here 5 years ago…?” The young man appeared to be deep in thought before bowing apologetically to Dongwan, “I’m sorry to have bothered you. I have other deliveries so I wouldn’t intrude any longer. Have a nice day!”
Raising an eyebrow at the retreating figure, Dongwan closed the door softly and spreaded out his lunch on the floor. Taking a bite of his food, he stared long and hard at his laptop screen before opening the browser. His fingers hovered over the keyboard before typing two words into the search engine.
Lee Minwoo.
Thousands of searches appeared instantly, even giving him the knowledge of the man’s birthdate, what he loves to eat and so on, all of which Dongwan rolled his eyes to and skipped past. He finally came across the news column in which it reported Minwoo’s death, and he clicked on it. It was a big disappointment as a big picture of the man appeared, with only a few words reporting that the man was found dead with no other clues whatsoever, and that investigation was undergoing.
Bored, he clicked on the other news of the man, and raised his eyebrows at the amount of scandals the man had.
HEADLINES: Celebrity Lee Minwoo found with yet another lady
Just as he was about to read it, something jumped onto his back. Knocking the thing with his elbow out of instinct, he was met with a loud cry of pain, and he sighed, knowing who was back.
“Why are you always so violent? Can’t you be nicer to your one and only roommate?” Minwoo pouted and rubbed his head in mock agony, and Dongwan only shot him a cold look in response. Seeing that the latter was not paying attention to him, he scooted closer to see the screen before beaming.
“I see! You do care about me, don’t you?” Minwoo exclaimed and pointed to the screen, “Why else are you searching my name?”
“Egoistic fella…” Dongwan mumbled, before turning to ask Minwoo, “So, pretty ladies?”
“Ah, yes. Song MinAe…” Minwoo peered at the screen in which it showed a picture of him and a lady standing together, “She is rather pretty, and so is Park Seohyun, Lee Boyoung…”
Looking at Minwoo’s thoughtful expression, Dongwan smiled coldly at him before saying, “You know what, I might have found the cause to your death.”
“What is it?” Sensing at the sudden change of topic, Minwoo suddenly stilled.
“Are you sure, it might not have been you using an over dosage of drugs to improve your…” Dongwan hesitated a little before gesturing to Minwoo, “…manly desires?”
“WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?” Minwoo’s face turned red with anger and a small tinge of embarrassment. Pouncing on Dongwan, he grabbed the hem of Dongwan’s collar before growling, “Just so you know, this old ajusshi is not that much older than you, and he died young. And as a matter of fact, this old ajusshi here might be more energetic than you, a 35 year old rascal.”
Dongwan stared at the ghost, shocked at the sudden outburst. Seeing their awkward position, his face turned bright red as he struggled to push the ghost off him. The both of them stared at each other as silence filled the air. Just as Dongwan was about to open his mouth to say something, a phone ring broke the silence.
“Hello?” Dongwan scrambled for his phone, thankful that the phone call had broken the awkward silence. Minwoo didn’t say anything but continued to sit there, staring at Dongwan with a hard glare.
“Yeah sure, see you soon. Thanks Eric.” Dongwan ended the call after several minutes, before he turned to Minwoo, “Look, whatever it is, let’s put it aside first. We have a guest coming, I do hope you behave. Thank you.”
