Chapter 10

From Dawn Till Dusk

“You suspect that someone might have dabbled with the information?” Dongwan narrowed his eyes as he asked Andy. Andy nodded solemnly, sensing the unhappy atmosphere that was lingering in the area.

Andy was good at reading faces, especially if it was his two brothers in which he had known for a long time. Dabbling with evidences and information was what both Dongwan and Hyesung hated most, hence the tense atmosphere. Apart from it being an unethical thing to do to the very truth of the event, it normally also meant that the person had an enormous amount of power to yield such a thing to happen. Unfortunately, or fortunately, this is the exact thing that the both of them are fighting against, especially Hyesung who seeks to bring the truth out to light.

“I believe it is so. It was executed rather cleanly, judging that the person had put in pains to hire someone professional to do it. Unfortunately, one of the codes was not erased properly and showed some errors, yet no one realised. It’s really a huge mistake.” Andy pointed out.

“Is that so?” Hyesung tugged on the leaves of the plant beside him and commented nonchalantly, “Is that so? Or perhaps, someone did realise it, yet chose to ignore it and tried to cover something over it, waiting for someone else to find it? In crime, there can always be evidences waiting to be discovered, even if it is just as small as dust.”

All three of them fell into deep thought, not one of them making any more comments or suggestions. Anyone would have thought that it would just end there, in which this would be the greatest move ever, yet everything seemed to only have just begun.

“I’ll be on my way first. I need time to think it out. Thanks for helping.” Dongwan stood up and nodded at the both of them. Looking at Dongwan’s retreating figure, Hyesung couldn’t help but ask, “Why are you trying so hard? Lee Minwoo has no relation to you.”

Hyesung’s voice showed no exact emotion, yet hearing that, Dongwan halted on the spot. The hand reaching out towards the doorknob stopped in mid-air as he finally put his hand down and turned to face Hyesung. Giving a shrug, he answered, “Who knows? Maybe we really do.”

“All I want to do is to bring the truth out to the light, just like what you have always been doing. Now, I don’t think there is anything wrong with that, is there?” A ghost of a smile hung on Dongwan’s lips as he said with a little taunt before closing the door behind him. He didn’t need to turn back to see how black Hyesung’s face was. Perhaps, just perhaps, none of them have ever truly let go of what had happened.

The cold air bit him as he stepped out of the building. The trees swayed along to the wind, dancing a lonely dance which no one could understand, yet it seemed to portray the very emotion deep in Dongwan’s heart. He had gotten used to it though. He should have, since it was already at least a 10 years. Some things will never be yours, no matter how hard you try to protect it.

Hyesung’s question rang in his mind time and time again, and as he walked along the streets, he couldn’t help but to think deeper into questioning his own motives. Why? Why was he helping Lee Minwoo? Was it to get rid of him, to get him out of the mansion he called his? He would have agreed to this answer wholeheartedly if he hadn’t found out the thing he did. Now that he did know that Lee Minwoo’s death might really not be a suicide, can he still say that?

Maybe, he thought. Maybe all he wanted to do was to at least make sure that no one else died a wrong death. In any case, one should be able to die without any regrets. Whether heaven or hell, it’s still much better than being stuck in the purgatory, all alone in the world where no one can see you.

Did he die with regrets too? Dongwan thought painfully. Is he still in this world, the same as Lee Minwoo, yet it was just that he couldn’t be seen. He shouldn’t be here, for if he was, how could he bear not to see his own brother again? He must be in either heaven or hell. He must be.

Life was never fair. Dongwan had given up a long time ago. He didn’t care anymore; there was nothing left on earth for him to work hard for. Everything was just the way it was supposed to be. Even without him, the world continues its routine. He mocked himself for the happiness he once felt.

Lee Minwoo did not pounce on him as he had done previously when he finally reached home that night. Though it felt a little weird, Dongwan decided not to put too much thought in it as there was too much things in his mind. Switching on the lights and walking up the dark staircase, something cold suddenly rushed past him and the blood stilled in his veins.

Turning back, he saw Minwoo doubling up on the floor of the staircase in laughter. His heart thumped loudly against his ribcage and his eyes still wide from the sudden rush of adrenaline from the scare. Temper rose within him again for he was irritated at Minwoo for doing such childish things. Yet the minute he turned to face the ghost, he couldn’t say anything, catching the glint in his eyes.

How lonely he must have been, for him to play pranks over the years so as to keep himself entertained. For the first time, Dongwan couldn’t find fault with anything the ghost did, and he turned around and sighed before walking up again.

Before reaching the top of the staircase, he turned around and looked at Minwoo, who was staring at him shell-shocked for not screaming at him. A smirk formed on Dongwan’s face as he pointed to the window from the top of the staircase.

“Good try this time round, but you still have not mastered your duty yet. Perhaps the next time, you can try to fly down from the windowsill here, it will be much scarier. Oh, and show your face under the moonlight before you do that, you will make a better ghost.”

“Thanks for the suggestion!” Minwoo gave him a toothy grin and waved at his figure, elated that Dongwan seemed to be much more welcoming to him now.

Chapter 16: I'm sorry, I'm so bad at math in a storyline so please help me explained their and timeline. How old is Dongwan in this story of yours? If Minwoo was 25 when he died 15 years ago, then if he still lives he would be 40. In chapter11 it said, Junjin was 17 when he died and would be 34 if he still lives. So Junjin died 17 years ago. Junjin died 2years before Minwoo did. Thats means the age-gap between Junjin and Minwoo would be 6 years. Then how much is the between Junjin and his hyung Dongwan? Are Dongwan and Minwoo was supposed to be same-age? If yes, then why Dongwan likes to make a jab to Minwoo like Minwoo is a reeeeeeaaallllllyyyy ancient old person. The maximum of Minwoo-Dongwan age-gap could only be 5 years.

Dongwan-ah, between 0-5 years age-gap, its means your age would be around 35-40yo. Minwoo is not THAT old compared to you.^^;

Chapter 13: I am wondering how you will have a ghost Minwoo and a living Dongwan forge a relationship/love interest. Will this turn into a fantasy?

Why do I have a hunch that Jinnie left the field open for a wansyung relationship? And is there a hint for Ricwan one-sided ......
