Prequel - Verdict
Love Him for MeThis should be my fastest update since I started the Prequel =)) No proof read again. Getting back to what I did for the Original story 3 years back xD
“I can cancel my application if you want me to, but I joined the Special Crime Unit for you.”
Junjin finally said it out. The reason he wanted to be in the Special Crime Unit, the reason he worked his fingers to the bone for the past 5 years, was just so he could spend more time with Andy. But saying it out did not bring him peace of mind. The anxiety he was feeling now was like a pair of clamps fastened around his heart, going tighter and tighter until he cannot breathe.
Shock was all Junjin could read from Andy’s face. Junjin stood, vulnerable and helpless, like a court defendant waiting to hear his verdict. Unfortunately, his anxiety would be prolong because from his peripheral view, he saw Minwoo hyung getting up and turning to their direction.
“Minwoo hyung is walking over. I need to go.” Andy said quickly and slipped away, leaving Junjin alone after his appalling revelation.
It was the consequence for keeping their friendship in the closet. He knew the request had always taken its toll on Andy, and now it was here to punish him as well. After several agonising heartbeats, Junjin finally dragged himself back to their table.
He regretted asking if Andy was avoiding him. He regretted taking the lid off his lesser secret which might lead Andy to his deepest secret. He didn’t want these to drive a wedge between them.
“Jin, what happen? You look terrible.” Dongwan, as usual, sensed something was wrong the moment Junjin reached the table. Junjin turned to Dongwan, inadvertently having Andy entered his sight. His heart felt another painful warp. But no matter how fearful he was, the night of celebration for his admission to the Special Crime Unit had to go on...for the oblivious hyung.
“Nothing much, just a case on hand got some complications,” Junjin lied.

Andy tossed and turned restlessly in his bed. Every time he shut his lids, he saw the heart-wrenching countenance of Junjin when he, by mistake, let Junjin realised he was avoiding him. A helpless sigh escaped the young man as he gave up on sleep. He sat up as quietly as he could, trying not to disturb Eric’s sleep as his mind retrieved memories of the earlier night.
I joined the Special Crime Unit for you.
Andy’s heart did a summersault. Don’t let your mind run wild, he told himself. But it was hard when his mind kept repeating what his object of affection did; all because 5 years ago Andy told him he wanted to be in the Special Crime Unit. Undoubtedly, Junjin cherished their friendship very much, and Andy was being callous to avoid the man just because he was confused and scared by his own feelings. That had to end. With new resolve, Andy pulled out his phone and texted Junjin.
He climbed down the ladder from his double deck bed, pausing for a short while to look at his peacefully sleeping brother.
Hyung, if only I had half your courage…
Andy swiftly grabbed his hoodie and pulled it over his head before leaving the room he was sharing with Eric, and then the apartment. The wind was cutting when he stepped out of the elevator. He strolled to a nearby bench in their compound’s garden and sat down. Inside, he was missing and desiring for the comfort of the beach near his old dorm.
Andy’s phone vibrated in his palm and halted his wandering thoughts. He briskly unlocked it, not minding the mobile phone light that shined into his eyes.
Andy: Are u still awake? 3:04 a.m.
Junjin: Yes. 3:17 a.m.
Andy creased his brows at the one word reply from Junjin.
Andy: Can we talk? 3:17a.m.
In the apartment, Junjin’s heart pounded dreadfully. He knew he was in for a sleepless night when Andy left to dodge Minwoo from seeing them together, without a reply for him. He had been in his own world since returning to his room until he saw Andy’s message asking if he was asleep. And it scared the hell out of him because he was afraid of receiving the verdict. He gave Andy the right to determine the future of their relationship, but the truth was he was not prepared to lose anything he had with Andy.
Junjin mulled over how he should reply to Andy’s first message and ended up with a pathetic “yes”. And now Andy wanted to talk.
Junjin fisted his hands tightly and opened them again, repeating the action as if it would lessen the queasy feeling he had in his stomach. His phone vibrated again. Hesitantly, he tapped on the notification to enlarge it.
Andy: I’m in the garden by our lift lobby. Let me know if u r coming down. 3:24a.m.
As if being doused in icy water, Junjin jolted out of his reverie.
What was Andy doing out there in this cold weather? And in the middle of this unearthly hour!
His concern for Andy overcame his fears as he quickly got dressed and ran out. His heart ached when he saw the lone figure of Andy rubbing his hands together and shivering lightly in the garden. He strode over and draped the spare jacket he brought over Andy.
“Jin!” A smile broke onto Andy’s face when he turned and saw Junjin. Junjin exhaled in finality. He had to face it no matter what. He made himself sit beside Andy and place each hand on his lap, staring straight ahead.
“You want to talk,” Junjin muttered. He did not asked why Andy came down in this cold weather because he knew the reason. The hyung can’t see them talking.
“I do,” Andy replied.
