Chapter 29

Accidental Love

"Y-you're al-l-live." Jongin whispered to himself.

Jieun's eyes were swelling with tears and without any warning, she threw herself to Jongin for a tight hug. She buried her head into his shoulders. The rain has soaked her whole body but Jongin was too shocked to care. Instead of returning her hug, he stood there, frozen as he stared ahead.

"I missed you Jongin." she said in between her sobs. She was shaking and he could feel that, but he didn't have the strength to react at that moment. How can someone dead come back to life? Not only was he shocked, he was very confused and lost. He couldn't think and all he wanted to know was, how? How is she still here?

Areum who was waiting at the top, decided to come down when she heard a feminine voice. But as she was about to take her last step down, she could clearly see a girl hugging Jongin. Jongin didn't make a move and she couldn't help but wonder who the lady was. But when she pulled away, Areum felt her heart beat faster than it should.

Instead of comforting her, he shifted to the left to give her some space to walk in. "Come in." his voice sounded cold. Jieun grabbed the handle of her luggage that she had brought along with her and dragged it in as she went inside. Seeing this, Areum quickly rushed up to her room. She didn't know why she was trying to hide from them but she felt the need to.

Jieun scanned the house, like she was trying to remember herself being there.

"Wow.. I feel like i've been here.." she muttered but Jongin could hear it clearly, making him more confused than ever.

"What do you mean? You've been here for like...3 years.." he told her from behind with his arms folded. Jieun turned to face him and she had a touch of sadness hidden in her hopeful eyes.

"Jongin-ah, i think you should know something.."

Areum's POV

Isn't that Jieun? The girl in the picture frame in Jongin's room.. Although now that i think about it, its been removed from his room.. That's his girlfriend isn't it? I mean his ex.. But i thought she's... gone.

I felt a sharp pain on my head all of a sudden and all the confusion was just adding to my headache. I sat on the corner of my bed and removed the painful heels from my foot. I have to admit that the evening certainly didn't go the way i expected it to— but i can't be selfish.

There's a whole lot of explanation to be done down there and i can't just think of myself at this very moment. I was truly disappointed but i can't allow this feeling to wash over me when there much more important things going on right now.

I removed the makeup from my face dispiritedly and changed into an oversized tee and sweatpants. I sighed to myself as i hung the white laced dress back into the closet. "Maybe next time.." i said aloud as i ran my fingers through the gorgeous clothing.

I contemplated whether i should head down to where they were but it wouldn't feel right to budge in their conversation. It's just weird especially when, i'm his girlfriend now. And then there's his ex-girlfriend who was said to be gone and suddenly appeared out of no where after a long time.

Don't get me wrong. I don't hold any grudges on her. I don't even know her to begin with. But the thought of us being in the same area didn't feel right to me. Girlfriend meets ex-girlfriend. But then again, they didn't really break up. She just left because of an accident so i guess if she actually woke up, she would still be his right? So, does that mean Jieun still rightfully belongs to Jongin?

Author's POV

The atmosphere in the living room was tensed. Jongin had sent Jieun to change into more comfortable and warm clothes since she was practically shaking from her wet shirt. He sat quietly on the sofa, throwing his head back and massaging it with his fingers.

"Jongin." she called out as she took a sit on the other end of the sofa.

"Huh? Oh yeah.. Jieun.." he straightened his back and cleared his throat.

"Since i'm all warmed up now, i guess i should just get straight to it.." she told him and he nodded slowly as he shifted in his sit to face her. He was so ready to hear her explanation after minutes of enduring the disconcerting feeling.

"So... 2 years ago, i had an accident and i'm certain that you know what happened." she started.

Jongin nodded. "Yeah.. I was in the hospital when you were unconscious but once your parents came, i was told to screw off because they didn't like me being there. They didn't like me being with you." he said coldly and Jieun felt herself getting aghast at how dead he sounded.

She laughed bitterly and continued. "Yeah.. And thats the reason why you haven't seen me for the past 2 years. I wasn't dead Jongin. I was only in a coma. You didn't attend any funeral did you? Because if you did, you might have been tricked." she joked at the end but her smile faded when the Jongin's emotionless eyes pierced into her.

"Might have been tricked?" he scoffed. "Does this even seem like a joke to you? How could you just disappear like that and never come back like you were never alive? Do you know how much i suffered thinking that you were dead!? Do you really think that death is something you should be playing with!?" he raised his voice with every sentence he spoke.

The fact that Jieun was taking this so lightly made him frustrated because for all the months that she was gone, he was in pain. But who the hell knew that he was agonizing for someone who was still so alive and breathing?

"I had amnesia Kim Jongin!!" she screamed and she felt her head pounding immediately after she did. But she continued anyways.

"For the past 2 years i was struggling with trying to remember who i was and where i came from. I remembered no one, and not even my own family Jongin! But every day, i'd have images of this one particular man flashing in my head and unfalteringly appearing in my dreams. I told nobody about it because i thought it was just my head playing tricks on a person with memory loss like me. But i was certain that this man must have had a life with me before everything turned upside down. And that man was you, Kim Jongin." Drops of tears started streaming down her cheeks as she tried to explain how everything happened and how much grief she had to handle as well. Jongin felt his heart beating rapidly and his breathings getting heavier by the moment.

"I finally took the courage to ask my parents who you were to me and what kind of relationship we had.. I knew they were a little hesitant on telling me but because i was so desperate to know, i managed to persuade them. I'm not fully recovered yet neither do i know you completely now but i want to gain back those memories again because i know they're the ones that i never wanted to lose. Coming here was something i against my parents will but i just needed to see you. I needed to see the person i once shared a life with you know..."

Jongin let out a heavy breath. "I know Jieun. I get it now.. And i'm sorry for the way i acted.. Its just so much to take in. You left 2 years ago and then suddenly you're back. Its just shocking..."

Jieun stayed silent for a moment. She didn't have any response to that. She didn't know how it happened too. One day she was dead and another day she was alive. She was confused with her life as well.

"So because your parents hated me so much, they kept you away from me huh?" Jongin chuckled bitterly and ran his fingers through his hair.

Jieun shrugged. "I wouldn't say hate..."

"But they still kept you away from me even when they knew how much i-i loved you." He stuttered towards the end.

"I'm sorry Jongin. But i couldn't do anything. I didn't know who you were and... i still don't." Jieun whispered when she felt her voice cracking from having to hold back her tears.

"You came all the way here so that i can help you remember?" he asked.

She nodded slowly. "What makes you think i can help you?" Jongin asked again.

She stared into his eyes and said, "Because i was told that i shared a life with you here for years."

But that was back then..

He sighed in defeat. "I'll help you." Although i don't know what to regard you as from now..

A smile formed on Jieun's face when she felt hope raising in herself. She wanted to get back the memories she once had. She wanted to remember again. She wanted to continue the life that suddenly stopped when got hit by the car. "Thank you Jongin.." she placed her palm on his hands and stared at him lovingly.

Memories of Jieun flashed into his mind when he felt the familiar warmth from her hands. He would be lying if he said he didn't miss it.

"Jongin?" Areum asked as she climbed down the stairs. She heard him almost shouting from his room and she felt uncomfortable—thinking that he could have done something to Jieun. So she went down to check up on the two but when heard their conversation, she stopped by stairs for a little while. She didn't mean to eavesdrop but she just wanted to know what was going on knowing that Jongin would probably spare her nothing on what's really happening.

"Eo, Areum?" he pulled away from Jieun's touch immediately when he saw Areum walking towards them. She had no make up on and was in her casual home clothes again. He instantly felt guilt rushing through his body when he realized that their 1st Monthsary date had been ruined. He didn't blame it on Jieun, neither did he blame it on himself. He just felt extremely guilty.

Jieun stood up as she saw Jongin walking towards Areum. She played with her fingers nervously at how beautiful Areum looked like—when Areum felt the same about her.

Areum bowed at Jieun politely and gave her a genuine smile. Not a fake smile or a doubtful smile. Just a sincere and gentle smile that would make her feel welcomed.

Jongin couldn't help but smile at how polite Areum was and he felt like taking her into his arms to ease the burden away but he held himself back because Jieun was there. He introduced them to one another instead.

"Areum, this is Jieun. And Jieun, this is Areum. My g-" He got cut off by Areum.

"I'm the new maid here." she spoke spontaneously and avoided Jongin's gaze. She knew how confused he was but she also knew she had done the right thing.

Jieun smiled and held out her hand to shake Areums'. "I'll just carry your stuff to your room if that's okay with you?" Areum asked like she had been the helper in the house all along.

"Oh no its okay. I wouldn't want to trouble you." Jieun told her with a sweet touch in her voice. She's so nice. I understand why you fell for her Jongin..

"Aniyo.. It's my duty to help." Areum gave her a smile and grabbed her luggage up to her new room.

Why are you doing this Areum? Jongin thought to himself as he watched her struggle her way up.
