Chapter Seven

I Hate You Not

CHAPTER SEVEN

After hearing a noise, Soojung slowly opens her eyes and felt Jongin’s head at the top of hers as she wake up. She smiles a little at the smell of his perfurme but quickly moved after realizing that she was leaning on his chest, making him wake up as well. She wondered how that happened when she doesn’t remember leaning on to him before she slept.

“Good morning.” He says, smiling as he looks at the clouds from the window. He then rubs his eye, before standing up. “I’ll just go to the bathroom for a minute.”

“Uh, yeah.” She replies but still confused. “What the hell just happened?”

After going to the bathroom, Jongin returns with a cup of Vanilla ice cream. The girl doesn’t notices this as she was busy searching for a movie to watch at the screen in front of her until she looks at him.

“Where did you get that?” She asks. “I want some too. Go get me some.”

“You get yours.” He replies, scooping his ice cream. “I saw a kid eating this so I asked the stewardess for one.”

Soojung glares at him as he was making her jealous of his ice cream. He was purposely saying “So Delicious!”  loudly and his spoon as if he was in a commercial. When she couldn’t take it anymore, she stands up from her seat to ask a stewardess for an ice cream but was quite shocked when the stewardess on what she answered.

“You don’t want to share with your husband?” She asks in a teasing tone. Soojung raised her eyebrow and looked at Jongin. She knew he had something to do with this. The boy, who has a spoon in his mouth, looks at her back with a panicked expression.

“She’s going to kill me.” Jongin removes the spoon from his mouth and smiles at the stewardess. “Please give her a strawberry ice cream.”

As soon the stewardess leaves, Soojung sit downs on her seat and punches her fiance who was just smiling cheekily.

“What the did you do?!” She whispers angrily.

“You still like strawberry ice cream, right? If you don’t like it, you can have mine.”

“Don’t change the subject, Kim Jongin!”

He just shakes his head. “I swear I didn’t do anything!”

The stewardess comes back after a few minutes. With a smile on her face, she hands the strawberry ice cream to Soojung.

“I hope you enjoy your honeymoon in Los Angeles.” She says, before leaving the two alone.

Soojung almost drops her ice cream.

“Please don’t kill me.” She hears Jongin pled.

It was already night time when the two arrived in Soojung’s private apartment in Los Angeles, but it was still quite early to go to bed. It was hard to enter the building and even Jongin was questioned by the guards before he could enter until Soojung told them that he was a ‘friend’. The Jungs actually have a mansion in Calabasas, but Soojung moved in the apartment since it was nearer her school. She actually started to live alone 4 months ago as the personal maid her parents hired for her got married. She still visits Soojung from time to time though.

Jongin looks around her apartment that was filled of pictures of her and her friends. He wondered how she could just put them around when her parents could just visit her anytime. He picks a particular picture of Soojung and her boyfriend smiling happily from a coffee table in front of the television.

“Seriously what is this girl thinking?”

“Hey, do you want a can of coke?” He hears her ask from the kitchen.

The boy puts the picture back on the table and follows Soojung to the kitchen. There he sees her eating a bar of chocolate while looking at her fridge. He peeks at it and was shocked to see a dozen of beer.

“You drink?” He looks at her in disbelief, “I mean, I did see you drinking at the party, but damn are you going to drink that all?”

“Hell no.My friends drink these when they visit me.” She says, getting a can and handing it to him. Jongin declines but he did grab a coke.

“Do your friends visit you a lot?” He asks after he sat on the counter.

“Yeah, why?”

“No wonder you have no pictures of your family around…” He mumbles as he takes a sip of the drink. “Wait a minute, your friends can enter this building easily but I can’t?”

“Well, the guards already know my friends so…” Soojung shrugs.

“Are you crazy? Why do you let them that easily? Do you know the guards can tell your parents that yo-“

“Stop scolding me!” She says, throwing the wrapper of the chocolate at his face. She then runs away from him and he chase after her. They run around the apartment, throwing things at each other. Soojung enters her room and before he could even catch her, she has already closed the door. “Go away, I’m going to take a shower!”

Before he left, he hears her laugh and say, “Idiot!”.

“I’m going to kill you later!” He shouts.

Jongin found out that Jaejoong used to go there. He was surprised when he saw some clothes at the cabinet. At first he thought that they were Derek’s, but they were too formal for him. He wanted to stay at the guest room, but was distracted by the old nitendo consule Jaejoong had.

“You sure you don’t want to sleep at the guest room?” Soojung asks, entering his brother’s room. “There’s a flat screen there, you know.”

“No, I’m alright.” He answers while he waits for the screen to load. “Jaejoong hyung wouldn’t mind if I stay here, right?”

“Actually, he hates you.” Jongin looked horrified when he heard that. The girl couldn’t help but to laugh seeing his expression. “Just kidding, he thinks you’re okay.”

“Damn, you scared me!” He says, dramatically cluching into his chest. “I really admire your brother. He helps your father with business, has a really nice wife and lived in London. He’s pretty cool.”

“Oh and did I mention, Catherine’s pregnant? Which means I’m going to be an aunt!” Soojung says, jumping excitedly at the bed.

“Really? That’s nice to hear. Haven’t they been married for like, two… three years?” Jongin remembered back then when he attended his wedding. Jaejoong looked unhappy, but hid his feelings with a smile. And now, everything has changed. He has fallen in love with his wife and now he’s going to have his first child.

“Hey, Soojung.” He calls the girl who was rolling around the bed.

“Yeah?”

“Do you think… the same thing could happen to us?” He turns around to look at her. “Do you think we could fall in love with each other? Have kids? Make a happy family?”

Soojung paused and looks at Jongin, who was doing the same thing. Silence filled the room and the only sound they could hear was the intro of the video game. After a few seconds of seriousness, the two burst out laughing at the same time.

“That will never happen!” Soojung exclaims before falling from the bed. This makes Jongin laugh even louder to the point that his stomach was aching. The girl just glared at him as he didn’t help her get up.

Even though there was no chance of that happening, Soojung wonders what will happen once she gets married to Jongin. Will they continue to fight? Will they finally make up? Who knows? But for some reason, she thinks spending the rest of her life with him would be lovely.

The sun was already shining, and Jongin was still on bed. He spent the rest of the night playing, with Soojung who sat beside him while nagging whenever he lost. He still wanted to sleep but couldn’t because of the sound of Soojung’s heels clicking as she walks around the apartment.

After 20 minutes of just starring at the ceiling, he finally went out from the room barefooted. He was scratching his back when his jaw dropped to see Soojung wearing a black mini dress that fitted her perfectly, showing her long legs and curves. He slaps himself for checking her out.

“Finally you’re awake! Here, catch.” She says, throwing a key to him. “That’s my spare key. You can roam around LA if you want.”

“You’re leaving me alone?” He asks, with a hint of disappoinment in his voice.  She looks like she in a hurry as she run from the living room to her bedroom. “Where are you going?”

She came back with a bracelet in her hand. “Help me with this.”

“What do I do?” He looks at her confusely.

“Just tie it around my wrist.” He did exactly what she said. “Thanks.”

“You still haven’t answered my question.”

“I’m going to meet some of my friends. They wanted to go here but I told them to meet at a restaurant.” She answers, fixing her hair in front of the mirror. “Well, I have to go now. I might be back a bit late so eat whatever you want.” She then grabs her bag and heads to the door. Before closing it, she reminds him of the breakfast she made. “I made you some eggs, by the way. Thank me later.”

Jongin sighs, slumping at the couch. He thought he could spend sometime annoying her, but it seems like it won’t happen.

“Pst, Jongin.”

“Hey stupid.”

“If you don’t wake up, I’m going to pour a bucket of water into you.”

Jongin felt Soojung’s finger poking his cheeks, but it wasn’t until the last sentence he decided to open his eyes.

“Whaaat?”

“I brought you some chips!” She happily shows him a pack of Lays. She just found out that he liked them so he bought one to make it up for him as she has been leaving him alone for four days now.

“If you think I will forgive you for leaving me for days, you’re wrong.” Jongin stares at her blankly. He finally sits down, grabbing the chips from her hands. “Thanks anyways.”

“Oh come on, I come back every night!”

“Yeah but I wanted to go to Disneyworld with you!”

“First of all, it’s Disneyland. And second, you can go there by yourself!”

He could only sigh, thinking at how vain his fiancee is. He was about to open the chips when he noticed a small mark on Soojung’s neck, almost unnoticable.  He points at it and asks, “Is that a hickey, Jung?”

Soojung quickly blushed, hiding the mark her boyfriend gave her. She couldn’t reply.

“Aye, I see somebody had .” Jongin teases, flicking her forehead. “That’s cheating, wifey.”

“I-I didn’t have !” She explains, her face still red. “We promised not to do it until we get married so I guess, I will never do it with him…”

“So, you haven’t had… ?” He asks but then regret it just seconds after. The atmosphere got awkward and he himself also blushed by his question. Why would he ask to her anyways? It’s not like he was interested. And to think they were actually alone in her apartment…

“No Lays for you.” Soojung steals the chips from his grasp, running away from him in embarassment.

It was their last day in Los Angeles and as usual, Jongin was left alone in the apartment. He did left at the morning to roam around LA and visit any place that he can just because he didn’t want his trip to be a total waste but came back in the afternoon. Even though he was entertained, he couldn’t help but to be worried about Soojung, knowing that she was going to break up with her boyfriend today.

He didn’t like feeling like this. He should be happy that she’s finally breaking up with Derek, just like what he told her before, he wanted to see her suffer but why does he feel a bit guilty?

“Ah, .” He bites his lip and tries to think about something else. He heads back to his room and starts playing again, hoping that it could distract him from thinking about her.

And it did work. He was too concentrated to his game that he didn’t notice it was already night time. He didn’t want to get up from his seat, but his stomach was already growling in hunger. He decided to grab whatever there is in the fridge. As he went out of his room, he heard soft sobs coming from Soojung’s room. He didn’t think twice and just entered the room.

The lights were dim and the room was a mess. He easily found her sitting in the floor while hugging her knees. When she felt his presence, she immediately stood up while wiping her tears.

“I’m alright.” She smiles, even though tears were already forming in her eyes. “I swear, I’m okay.”

Jongin sighs. Instead of leaving her alone, he pulls her into a hug, burying her into his chest. He felt his shirt slowly getting wet from her tears.

“Jongin?” He hears her whisper. “Can we pretend that we’re not frienemies and just… just please hug me for the whole night?”

“Sure, wifey.” He replies as he hugs her tighter.
