It was an hour into the game when Summer noticed that Chanyeol was on his phone a lot. His face didn’t show any indication that he was talking to anyone special. She tried to think back to the past couple of hours that they had spent with him, and he didn’t mention that he was seeing anybody. Usually when they spent time together, Chanyeol would never take out his phone. Summer was tempted to look over and see what he was looking at, but when Krystal called her name, she snapped her head in Krystals direction.
“Your turn. I chipped my new nails. I’m so done with this game.” Krystal grimaced and stared at her nails. Judging by the look of disgust displayed on Krystal’s face that meant she really was done with bowling for the night.
Summer was getting tired, too. She walked up to her lane and grabbed the ball. She bent down in a more comfortable manner. To uplift the mood, she was going to crack a lame joke with her friends just before she bowled. But when she turned around, what she saw knocked the breath out of her.
The ball fell out of her hand and it rolled to the side.
To her horror, it was Kai standing there with his other friends. Krystal was looking right at Summer with wide, panicked eyes, not knowing what to do. Chanyeol rubbed the back of his neck nervously, afraid to meet Summer’s eyes.
Krystal ran over and quickly whispered in her ears, “I think he’s here for the long run, so let’s get the hell out of here.”
Without a second thought, Summer was already striding forward towards the boys. She stared at Chanyeol in disbelief. His phone was in his hand, and she growled. I can’t believe he didn’t warn me Kai was coming.
“Hello Summer,” greeted Kai. A voice that she hadn’t heard in a very long time danced itself into her heart and soothed her rising heartbeat. “I love your new haircut. It looks beautiful on you.”
Summer looked at him and only nodded. She noticed that wasn’t the only one who decided to give themselves a makeover. Kai did, too. His hair was now dyed rebellious gray, and his clothing style looked more matured. There was a certain spark of radiance that shined from him. He looked happy. Unable to bear the pain of seeing him right now, she changed her shoes and picked up her jacket and bag. She wanted to get out as soon as possible.
“Summer,” Chanyeol started. “I—”
She had already walked off. Krystal threw on her jacket. “Nice going stupid. Why the hell would you
