Throughout the summer, my family and I have been learning lots of Korean lessons from Helen. We were even taught how to read and write the hangul alphabets. It was kind of fun for us. After every lessons are over, we practice talking to each other in Korean to improve ourselves.

Of course, it's not just lessons all the time. There are some days Helen offer to tour us to many wonderful places in Seoul. This way, we can still enjoy our summer exploring the city. Now she is our tour guide in addition to tutor. Can you believe it? (laughs) Somehow I kind of got used to the culture here. And we got used to speaking Korean. Now we go anywhere without worrying about language barrier. 

Time flew so fast and summer is nearly over. So, you know what this means. Back to school. Going to school in a new land seems pretty nervous for me. I got everything I need. School books, my school bag and not forgetting my school uniform. 

Before the semester starts, there was an orientation for the newcomers. I had to go to school. I was dressed in my new school uniform. My parents followed me to the school on that day. Mommy patted my shoulders to calm me down. Helen was also there to encourage me. 

Helen: Don't worry, dear. Just remember what I have taught you in the summer. 

Mom: Yes. You have already learn how to understand and speak Korean. So, you shouldn't worry about the language. 

Dad: You'll be fine, honey. Just be yourself. 

You: Thanks.

We enter the hall and I have to sit with the other new students. I just bowed and smile at them as I took my seat. When the principal and the teachers came into the hall, everyone had to remain silent. He gave his speech and welcomed all of us to the school. Mostly he talk about the school's rules and regulations. It's gonna take a while.

After 1 hour, the orientation is over. What a relief. There was refreshment for everyone. I decide to take a stroll around the school grounds to get myself familiarize. However, down the hallway, I saw someone whom I recognize at the park. It was Ryeowook! I didn't know he attends this school too. Looks like I have a friend in a new school. And now that I know how to speak Korean, I can easily talk to him. 

Ryeowook: Oh! you! Annyong. 

You: Hi, Ryeowook. You remember me?

Ryeowook: Of course. When I saw you in school, I recognize you right away. Looks like we're attending the same school together. And wow! You can speak Korean already?

You: (laughs) Ne. I sort of learned the language from a private tutor. 

Ryeowook: That's good. At least there's no more language barrier for you. 

You: Ne.
