Cp. 23

Fake Boyfriend

Cp. 23

It was blurred, the image in front of me was unclear although I could actually feel that someone was taking care of me. Calming me with a warm hug when the aftermath of that nightmare was still vivid inside my mind. “It’s okay, I’m here okay?” I heard someone whisper while running a hand on my back repeatedly to soothe me. It’s Taeyeon. I just knew it. No one ever has this vibe of calmness that will really put me at ease, but her. “Everything is gonna be alright.”

Repeating the same words, I was trying to suggest my conscious as well. Taeyeon broke our hug and scooted out for a moment. “I’m not going anywhere,” She said reassuringly, because my hands had automatically grabbed her side as soon as I felt her moving. I heard a click sound and by now, her figure had illuminated by the dim light of this bed lamp. She looked at me with her concern filled eyes.

“I will make you a warm milk, okay?

“No.”

“Okay, water?”

Another shake of my head.

“What do you want then?”

“You.”

There was a slight pause, as I could see her lips curled up into a teasing smile. Realizing my slip of tongue at that very moment, I cleared my throat awkwardly. “I mean, I want you to just stay, okay? Err… please?”

Taeyeon nodded knowingly, still with her pursed lips. It seemed like she was holding her laughter after hearing my embarrassing split-of-second outburst and I couldn’t help but groan internally. Way to embarrass yourself, great just great.

“So,” The mattress dipped as she sat on it again, properly this time. “What happened to you? You were sleeping just fine before. Was it nightmare?”

I played with my hands while leaning back on the bedpost. “Yeah,” I squeaked lowly, still eyeing the movement my hands made.

“That’s explain the tears then.” After hearing her words, I couldn’t help but search her eyes in wonder.

“Am I crying?” Looking at her eyes, I furrowed my eyebrows.

“Yeah, just a bit.” She stretched her hand out and I almost gasped out loud as her thumb made a contact with my left cheek. She brushed it lightly.

“There. It’s gone.” Taeyeon smiled, she then retracted it. “Seriously, when I was having nightmare, drinking warm milk will always make me better. And that trick never gets old, you know.”

“And you’re warm too.” She added, eyeing me worriedly.

I saw her get off the bed and stood up. “Where are you going?”

“Making you a merited warm milk and bring you a medication.”

“No!” Say no to medication!

“Why are you so stubborn?” Taeyeon folded her hands while looking at me, sternly.

“Why don’t you take a no for answer?” I refuted back.

“Why don’t you take a yes for answer?”

“Not funny, Kim.”

“So many Kims around here.” She fished out something from her pocket. It was her phone, I assumed. She quickly typed on it before shoving it back on its former place and looking back at me. “Which one are you referring to, huh?”

“Ha, you’re asking it. The soon to be shortest Kim, of course.”

“I beg your pardon?!”

“Hayeon is still growing up, and I’m sure she will pass you. Sooner or later.”

“But umma-“

“Your umma is an exception.” I swiftly interjected. “I-“

The knocks on our door made me halt my words. As if on cue, the wooden door opened and in walking, her mother with a tray. Taeyeon rushed to help her umma, placing it on the small table beside the bed.

“How are you feeling, Tiffany?” She asked me with this motherly, soothing smile.

“Better, I guess?”

“Good to hear.” Her mother chuckled. “Because this girl over here,” She eyed Taeyeon, following her trail of gaze, my lips immediately formed a smile. “Was freaking out after seeing your condition. Just like when you saw her lying on the hospital bed. Taeyeon’s expression is exactly like yours.”

“Umma,”

“Yes, Taetae?”

“I think Hayeon is screaming.” Taeyeon flatly said, I could tell she was being uncomfortable with the reminding of that event. The woman in front of me nearly gasped. “Oh my gosh! Get well soon, dear!” She patted my head and ran out of this room in a lightning speed. I still had my eyes glued over the closed door before a soft pat on my shoulder diverting my attention to her.

“Drink this okay?” She handed me the glass.

“You asked your mother to make this, didn’t you?”

I saw her shrug her shoulder nonchalantly before I sipped on it slowly.

“I’ve connection.”

Taeyeon crawled her way and sat beside me as well, leaning against the bedpost. “It’s helping you know.” She pointed my glass. “It made me feel really better. Even after the scariest nightmare of mine, which was losing my dookong.”

I almost spitted out my drink, thanks to my great self-control, it didn’t happen for real. That thing won’t be good. My image will be totally ruined in front of her. And she will not stop teasing me!

“You,” I glanced at her. “You miss your family, don’t you?” She questioned with a hesitant voice, resulting my grip on the glass surface to tighten a bit.

“Yeah, especially her.” I answered, trailing on my words. “But not my father though. He is too busy to even care about his daughter’s well-being.”

“Hey,” She took the glass out of my hands and then placed it on the side table. “Look, he is your father. As busy as he gets, he will not abandon his own daughter.”

“Yet, where is he now?” I turned my body to face her. Eyes were indeed glaring. I just couldn’t help it. “Where the heck is he now, huh?”

Taeyeon’s mouth opened but there wasn’t any words come out. She heaved a sigh instead. “I’m sorry. You better sleep this’s already late.”

Soon after I felt a gentle tug on my left shoulder and in a matter of second, I had laid on my back, closing my eyes. She was sitting with back facing me now. My hand was making its way to massage my head but it stopped moving as Taeyeon halted by holding it. Since when she turned around, huh? I still kept my eyes tightly closed at that time.

“I’m sorry,”

My eyes shot open, instead of seeing her apologetic face, all I could see was her crook of neck. Did she-

“I really am sorry.” I felt her mumble, her lips was still lingering on my temple the moment she spoke. She pulled out and smiled a little. While me, of course was still at lost for words.

I heard a squeeze sound and dripping of water was following after.

Something cold was being placed on my forehead after I felt like my hair had been swept aside. I jerked a bit. “Sorry,” She softly said. “Just precaution. You’re so scared at the thought of eating medication. And I don’t want you to get sick so yeah, I settled with this.”

My lips formed a small smile, “Thank you.”

For not leaving as well.

***

“Good morning,”

I didn’t respond nor I move either, my eyes were still shutting close. I was simply letting my brain to catch up with everything. It was still concise. “I know you’re awake already.”

My eyes enlarged after hearing it and saw she slipped her way inside my blanket. Read.

My blanket.

“YAH! WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON MY BED?!”

She pushed herself up a little, trusting her shoulder on the bed surface while staring at my direction. “Now, now, correction. It’s my bed.”

My eyes twitched at the sight of her smiling face. “You were sleeping here?!”

Taeyeon chuckled. “What do you think? This is my room.”

“I don’t know, you might miss your couch so you decide to sleep on it last night?”

“Says someone who fall asleep while sitting last night.” She snickered. “You’re heavy, you know.”

My eyes rolled at her way too honest and blunt remark. Covering myself with the blanket, I turned my back around, didn’t really want to face her just right now. The reason of my refusal to face her was;

First, because she was being so high first thing in the morning. She kept on teasing me and I didn’t like it. Okay, maybe, a bit but not all the time. And she was doing this all while ever since I opened my eyes, so I had every rights to despise her annoying presence.

Secondly, this was the main and maybe even partly taking a very big part of why I was turning my back to avoid her.

I just acknowledged the fact that both of us were sleeping together. On the same bed, that is.

We were best friends. Heck, we did sleepovers many many times back then. But, it was when I still oblivious with my feelings towards her.

Well, we obviously did not do anything. Except for that occasional hugs. But, still, it didn’t reduce the awkwardness. I gripped the fabric tightly. And why do I feel nervous?

“I told you to rest already, and yet you’re being you. Too excited to explore everything here, look what happened to you now?” I felt her hand on my shoulder—nudging me, but I didn’t budge. I didn’t want to witness her playful smile just yet. “Hey, you will run out of breath for covering yourself like that.”

I didn’t respond.

“It’s okay, if you don’t want to look at me, I will leave.” She paused and I kept my mouth locked, although all I wanted to do was stopping her. “Just rest, and please don’t kill yourself. I don’t want your ghost to haunt me.”

The bed cracked as she processed to get up, and I used all of my powers to stay calm.

I heard a shuffling sound and a soft click followed along as the door was being closed.

Huffing to no one in particular, I immediately revealed myself from that suffocating place. But, to my surprise, Taeyeon’s face was the first thing that had welcomed me.

“YAH!!”

“I thought you will never come out.” A grin.

“You’ve tricked me!”

Taeyeon tilted her head at me, still smiling. “I’m not. I was going to check on you one last time.”

I would never buy it!

“And oh, which reminds me,” She leaned forward and whispered in all seriousness. “I have something to tell you. This is so important, top secret information.”

I held my breath. “What?”

“You,” She started sluggishly.

A slight pause, but her eyes didn’t leave mine.

“Have,”

“A drool.”

W-WHAT? DROOL? AND WHAT’S THE USE OF THIS SUDDEN CLOSE PROXIMITY?!

“On your face.”

“GET THE HELL OUT!!” I screamed and pushed her face straightaway. Watching as she scurried out while laughing loudly, I couldn’t help but sigh. And to think that she will do what I thought she will do. Shaking my head thoughtfully. What the heck I rumble about anyway?

“Dammit, Kim.”
