AUTUMN'S LULLABY
IN THE DARKNESS
7 AM at a bakery. I sat near window and enjoyed my fresh croissants and hot chocolate when I saw this old couple. They walked hand-in-hand, talking about something that I barely heard. They both smiled and in the next second, that old lady laughed to her man. I couldn’t help myself to not smile. They walked slowly, slower than people around them. They walked in their own velocity, like this pathway only for them. Too bad, I didn’t bring my camera. I really wanted to press the shutter and captured the most beautiful scene I ever saw in my lifetime. They already vanished from my sight.
Then someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around and smiled. “Bonjour!”
“Bonjour! I thought I’m late. Did you wait too long?” asked Victoria.
I shook my head lightly. “Not really. I just sat for few minutes.” I smiled.
“Ah… glad to hear that.” She sighed in relief. Then she called waiter to order her breakfast. “So how’s your sleep last night?”
“Very well.” I smiled.
We decided to traveling around Europe once both of us finished our thesis. Now we were in Paris and enjoying the sweet autumn November here.
“We should visit this bistro tonight”, said her while showed her tablet’s screen. “They had special menus that only sold in autumn.”
I looked at her in sparkling eyes. “Why not?” I grinned.
“But we should visit all museums here first, okay?”
I chuckled. She was really a history lover. “Yes, ma’am.” I saluted.
We had steak as dinner at a small bistro near Seine River. We were waiting our meals while talked about how beautiful every corner of this city. Paris was indeed really a beautiful city. Its museums, monuments, buildings, parks, rivers, fashions, and foods were filled my camera’s memory card. 4 GB and it was not enough. I thought about to buy a new one tomorrow.
“Mei mei”, called Victoria.
“Hmm?” I turned my sight from Seine River beside me to her face.
“Wait a minute, okay? Toilet”, whispered her while smiled sheepishly.
“Okay, Jie jie.”
“Don’t eat my food”, glared her before she stood up and rushed to toilet.
I chuckled. “I won’t.”
I took out my phone from my backpack and checked it. I got few new e-mails and messages. It was almost a hundred. I frowned. Well, since last week I never checked my e-mail and my messager. I wondered who the senders. I clicked my inbox and scrolled down. Hangul was flooding my inbox. Most of them were from Jieun, few from Jinri and Sunyoung, and the latest one from Soojung. I startled. I had a battle in my mind. Should I open it or not?
“Excuse me, Miss…” said a waiter with his French accent while served our drinks on table.
“Oh, yes...” I looked at him and smiled.
He poured sparkling champagne into two glasses when an ear-catching song started filling every corner of the bistro. That song was in French but it was indeed a good one.
“This song is really good. What’s the title of this song?” I asked him.
“It’s “si tu l’avoues” by Anggun, Miss”, answered him while put the bottle on table and smiled at me.
“And what does mean?” I blinked.
“It means “if you
