A Chance

Present

“Honey ah..”, Yoona called her husband who was driving at that time. They were just went back from the hotel where the Jungs held the engagement party for their youngest daughter, Krystal and her fiance, Amber.

“Yes?”, Yuri replied while glancing at his wife before he focused his eyes back on the road.

“Can we make a stop at the convenience store for a while? I want to buy some ingredients for tomorrow’s breakfast”, she said.

“Sure, sweetheart”, Yuri replied with a smile, and continued to drive to the said destination. Once a while he will glance at the rear mirror to check on their sleeping little prince at the back seat. Junho was sleeping peacefully with a pacifier inside his mouth. He felt contented while watching his son’s sleeping face.

“He sure very tired after playing with SooSica and TaeNy kids earlier”, Yuri said with a chuckle.

“Yeah, he drank a bottle of milk after that, and then he doze off while he was in my arms. I think he will wake up late on tomorrow”, Yoona replied smilingly as she recalled his son fast asleep after playing with their friend’s kids.

Not long after, the Kwon’s car arrived in front of the convenience store which located not far from their residence.

“Alright, do you want me to accompany you?”, Yuri asked soon after he stopped the car.

“Nah, it’s okay, honey ah. Stay here with Junho, okay?”, Yoona said as she unbuckled her seat belt.

“Okay. Be careful!”, he said. Yoona just smiled in return, and quickly got off the car. Yuri just watching his wife entering the store until she disappeared from his sight.

“Alright, Kwon Junho. Let’s wait for mommy here, okay?”, he mumbled while glancing at the rear mirror, looking at his son. After making sure that Junho didn’t make any movement, he leaned his back on the seat, and without he realized, he slowly fell asleep.

“KNOCK! KNOCK!”

“Huh?”, Yuri was startled by the knocking sound. He slowly opened his eyes, and immediately unlock the door to let his wife in.

“Mianhae, babe. I fell asleep”, Yuri apologized.

“It's okay. I know you’re tired. But seriously, both of you looked so cute while sleeping”, Yoona said while giggling.

“Of course we are, though. The cutest father and son in Seoul you have ever met. Luckily we belong to you, Mrs. Kwon”, he replied as he chuckled on his own words. Yoona just rolled her eyes, and stuck her tongue out at him.

“Did you get what you want?”, he asked. He started to drive the car, heading to their home.

“Yes. And, I bought tteokbokki too. I can cook spicy tteokbokki for supper tonight”, she replied, lifting the plastic bag containing the raw tteokbokki.

“Ahh.. your favorite food, isn’t it?”, he said smilingly.

“Not only me, okay, but ours. Suddenly I’m craving to eat spicy tteokbokki”, she replied.

“Yeah. Ours. How come I forgot about that? I remembered you ate four plates of spicy tteokbokki on our second unofficial date”, Yuri said while laughing. Yoona slapped his arm as she felt embarrassed with his teasing.

“That’s because I didn’t take my dinner at that time, okay?”, she replied as she rolled her eyes.

“Okay, okay. I’m just teasing you, jagiya. Don’t be mad at me, okay?”, he said as he smiled apologetically.

“Aishhh.. I’m not mad at you, honey ah. Just keep focus on the road, okay?”, Yoona replied while patting on his cheek.

“Arasso”, Yuri said as he focused his eyes back on the road.

“Alright, we are here!”, Yuri announced soon after the car entering the porch. He unbuckled his seat belt after he turned off the car’s engine.

“Honey ah, can you please carry Junho to his room? I need to bring these goods into the kitchen”, Yoona said as she unbuckled her seat belt. “Oh, don’t forget to change his suit to his pjs, and his diaper as well, okay?”, she reminded Yuri before she walked towards the door.

“Sure do, babe. Go ahead. I will take care of this little Kwon things later”, Yuri replied as he got off the car, and slowly opened the back seat door. He carefully unbuckled the baby seat belt for his son, and carefully lifted the sleeping little Junho, carried him into his arm. Baby Junho suddenly jerked his body because of sudden movement. The toddler whimpered, maybe because he felt his sleep was being disturbed.

“Aigoo.. mianhae, Junho ah. Daddy need to bring you out of the car. Just continue your sleep, okay?”, Yuri muttered slowly as he patted on his son’s back, comforting him to sleep back. He could feel Junho slowly leaning his head onto his shoulder, indicating that he’s already fall asleep again. After making sure he locked the car’s door, he then started to walk slowly inside their house, and climbed the stairs, heading to baby Junho’s room. He carefully laid his son on his bed. Yuri carefully took off his son’s suit, and changed his diaper first before he holstered his pyjamas.

“Sleep well, baby. Daddy loves you”, he whispered as he kissed on his little boy’s puffy cheek, and pulled up the blanket to cover his body. Yuri slowly tiptoed out of his son’s room, and headed to his room to freshen up.

“Hey!”, Yoona said as she was startled with a sudden back hugging from Yuri. He gave a peck on her cheek before he took a seat at the stool.

“How was it?”, Yuri asked while staring at his wife who was busy stirring the spicy tteokbokki inside the pan.

“Will be ready in one minute”, she replied. “Can you please help me to get the plate?”, she said.

“Sure, babe”, Yuri replied as he got up, and opened the kitchen cabinet to take the plate. He walked towards his wife, and standing beside her while holding the plate.

“Here’s the plate”, he said.

“Thanks, honey”, she thanked him with a smile. “Alright, just put the plate on the counter. I’m going to put this hot spicy tteokbokki inside the plate”, she said as she turned off the stove. Yuri quickly put the plate on the kitchen counter.

“Let me help you to carry that”, Yuri said as he took the mittens, and walked towards Yoona to carry the hot pan to the kitchen counter.

“Thanks again, honey. Be careful, it’s hot”, Yoona replied as she moved aside to let Yuri carried the hot pan to the kitchen counter. He carefully carried the pan, and poured the still hot spicy tteokbokki into the plate. Meanwhile, Yoona went to the kitchen cabinet to take the plates and chopsticks, and arranged them on the kitchen counter.

“Alright, hot and spicy tteokbokki made by our lovely Chef Yoona, ready to eat!”, he said with a grin. Yoona just giggled on his words, and took off her apron. She then took a seat next to her husband.

“You don’t want to freshen up first?”, Yuri asked as he scooped some spicy tteokbokki, and put it on Yoona’s plate.

“Later. I want to eat first”, she replied. “Did Junho awake when you carried him to his room earlier?”, she asked as she started to eat her spicy tteokbokki. “Mmm.. mashidda! (delicious)”, she exclaimed. Yuri just chuckled, and patted her head gently.

“He just jerked his body and whimpered, maybe because he felt his sleep being disturbed. But, after that he fell asleep back”, Yuri said as he started dig in his tteokbokki.

“Aigoo.. I was supposed to make his milk first before he went back to sleep. I was too engrossed in cooking spicy tteokbokki”, Yoona said as she chuckled.

“Bad mama!”, Yuri . Yoona automatically slapped his thigh hard, causing the latter to yelp in pain.

“You are lucky that I love you and Kwon Junior, and your spicy tteokbokki, Kwon Yoona”, Yuri said while pouting, still caressing his sore thigh. Yoona chuckled, and quickly gave a peck on his cheek.

“Mianhae”, she apologized, causing the husband smiled sheepishly.

“I’m sorry too for teasing you, jagiya. You know I didn’t mean it, right?”, he said. Yoona just nodded her head smiling as she couldn’t answer Yuri because she was busy chewing her food. The loving couple then continued enjoying their supper, flirting and feeding each other while chatting on random things.

:: Flashback ::

“Y-Yoona?”, Yuri said in surprise.

“Uh, Y-Yuri?”, Yoona said in unison as she was also in a same state.

“What are you doing here?”, they said in unison. Both of them then laughed as they found it funny.

“You first”, being a gentleman, Yuri letting Yoona to speak first.

“Ermm.. it’s.. it’s okay.. you first”, Yoona said shyly. Yuri smiled faintly as he put his chopsticks, and started to speak.

“I was busy with my work, and I missed my dinner. Suddenly, I felt hungry, so, I thought I just want to have a light supper, and that’s why I’m here right now”, he explained to her.

“Ohh.. I see”, Yoona nodded her head.

“How about you?”, Yuri asked while glancing at the latter.

“Same here. I just came back from a photoshoot, and suddenly Chunyeon oppa have some errands to do, so, he just sent me home, and I missed my dinner. I decided to go out by myself to have a late supper. So, here I am”, she replied.

“So, it looks like we’re in the same boat, eh?”, Yuri said as he laughed.

“Yeah..”, Yoona joined him too. After their laughter died down, Yuri asked Yoona to continue eating her food, not mind of him.

“So, two plates, huh?”, he said as he tried to joke. He could notice that Yoona was giving him a glare. “Opss.. sorry.. I didn’t..”, he was about to continue his words when Yoona cut him off.

“Yes, I am a shikshin. I eat a lot. Don’t you remember?”, she said sarcastically while referring to their first ‘unofficial’ dinner date. Yuri was dumbfounded with her sudden sensitive mood.

“Aishh.. it’s not what I meant, Yoona”, Yuri said with a guilty tone. Yoona just ignored him, and continued eating her food. He scratched his head before he started to speak

“Look, I’m sorry if you feel insulted by my words. But, believe me, I really didn’t mean it. I was just joking”, he said as he apologized. Yoona still keep mum. Yuri sighed, and stopped eating his tteokbokki. He took the glass, and poured the soju inside before he gulped the content in one go. He put the glass back, and called the stall owner to pay the bill.

“Here’s the money, ahjussi”, Yuri said as he got up from his seat, and handed several won bills to the middle-aged man.

“Wait, let me get the change”, he said, and was about to walk to the kitchen counter when Yuri grabbed his wrist to stop him.

“It’s okay, ahjussi. The rest is for that lady’s food and drinks too”, Yuri replied, and glanced at Yoona. She just stared at him with a disbelief look.

“Oh, thank you, young man!”, the stall owner said and bowed to him. Yuri bowed at him back and smiled. The stall owner then excused himself to go back to the kitchen counter.

“Ermm.. good night, Yoona. I’ll see you again”, Yuri bid his goodbye to her with a faint smile before he slowly walked away from the stall.

“Urghh… stupid Kwon Yuri!”, she grumbled, and immediately got up from her seat. She quicken her pace to catch Yuri.

“Yuri.. wait!”, she yelled his name. The latter then stopped walking, and turned to his back.

“It’s okay, Yoona. You don’t have to pay back. It’s on me tonight. It’s a sign of my apology”, he said sincerely. He thought Yoona was going to return his money since the latter was opening her purse to take something.

“It’s not about that, you idiot!”, she grumbled, causing the latter dumbfounded again. Yoona keep on searching on something inside her purse until she found a pink name card. She walked closer to Yuri, and grabbed his wrist. Yuri raised his brows, confused on what the latter was doing.

“Here. Meet me there at 9:00 a.m. sharp for breakfast on tomorrow. I’m giving you a chance, Kwon Yuri”, she said with a serious look on her face. Yuri curled up his forehead, still not getting of what she said.

“A chance?”, he asked with his eyes glancing back and forth between the pink name card which in his palm and Yoona’s face.

“A chance for you to court me”, Yoona said as her face flushed. She quickly turned to her back, and walking back towards the stall, leaving the Kwon Yuri dumbfounded.. again.

“A chance to court.. her?”, he mumbles to himself while his eyes still glancing back and forth between the name card, and Yoona who keep walking away from him.
