Chapter 1 - I thought family was forever *

The Things You Do For The One You Love

A/N: Hey peeps! So this story has celebrated its third year anniversary and I gave it a read again, and I remember loving the plot but my writing was pretty mediocre as it was when I first started out. So i am remastering an old favourite, I hope you guys prefer this one better. I will be doing each chapter one at a time and with be placing a star next to the ones that have been redone as I move along. <3 Enjoy~!

Breaking news today, boy band "SHINee" has disbanded due to unidentified circumstances. SM Entertainment has given no comment for the boys' whereabouts...

Jonghyun sat down carefully on the dust mite infected couch, his eyes flicking down to the dirty carpet, his bare feet cold despite the warmth of the floor. The words could repeat themselves for eternity but he would never get used to hearing the news breaking headlines. His family broken apart, never hearing the cheers of their beloved fans, feeling the thrill of dancing on stage and making others happy with their inspired music. Music he tiredlessly worked himself to the bone over, lyrics that touched his own heart, hoping to make that connection to the Shawols. To make them feel how he does. It was from his own selfish act that his heart twinged in regret. He reached for the remote and flicked off the TV and rose off the couch, hurling the plastic device across the room, a loud bang echoing in the deafening silence as it slammed into the plastered wall. He buried his head into his worn hands as he began to pace the dark motel room.

"Jonghyun? Is that you?" A quiet, strained voice breaks the silence of the room, his hands dropping as his eyes desperately search for the comforting voice of the visual of the group. The light from the the lamp post outside spilled between the curtains enough to illuminate the dark room, highlighting the sharp features of his best friend as he stumbled into the room. Kibums' usual glamourous clothes were replaced with a pair of sweats, a tank top. His beautifully sleepy expression was enough to cause a constriction in the heart of the elder.
"Go back to sleep Kibum. Everything's fine." Jonghyuns' voice came out in a smooth whisper as he fell back onto the couch with a hearty sigh, his fingers pushing back his loose strands of hair..

The younger shuffled across the room and took a seat cautiously beside his elder. The defeated looking boy and reached out to gently touch Jonghyun's shoulder, whose mindless response was to brush his hand away. The silence between them used to be quite comforting but now it felt so heavy and strained. Kibums lips opened to say something but Jonghyun spoke over to silence what he was about to say; "Don't pity me Kibum. I'm too tired to hear you go through it again. It my fault why SHINee no longer exists." Jonghyun murmered.

Kibum stayed silent, he knew much better than to once again start a fight by protesting, it would cause more problems than help him through this difficult time. Jonghyun raised his eyes to meet Kibums piercing ones, his breath caught in his throat momentarily, those once fierce and passionate eyes were now full of sadness and regret. The elders' hand reaches out to gently push some strands of loose hair from the youngers eyes, the once perplexed beauty and clear skin was now sunken and tired, creased lines of worry marked his beautiful forehead.

"If it wasn't for me, SHINee would still be together," Jonghyun repeated for what seemed like the hundredth time today, words that had lost impact for the younger over time. Instead it just caused a dull ache of lose, his eyes darting around the cheap motel room. "I'm sorry we're in this dump."
"We'll just move again tomorrow, it's no problem." Kibum climbed off the motel couch, puttered around picking up a bunch of dirty laundry and starts piling it up in his thin arms.
"Leave it, we'll do it tomorrow." Jonghyun turned to watch the younger, climbing up to stop his actions but Kibum simply brushed past the elder.
"It's fine, i can't sleep properly anyway." His umma ways kicked in as a distraction as he kept moving around, tidying and straightening things up mindlessly.

"I'm so sorry, If only i kept my mouth shut and..." Jonghyun began yet again, and it took everything for Kibum not to throw the clothes at him and scream, these were words that he had heard again and again for weeks, he was so tired of it so he just repeated what he had been saying since they got here;
"No, don't say on it. Don't ever take back what you said, you spoke about what you felt right in your heart. They may have left you, but I didn't." The younger strode up right infront of Jonghyun, his hands working to straighten up his dishelvelled clothing while he remained quiet and motionless.
"Look at me," Kibum lost his temper as the elder refused to meet his eyes, harshly grabbing Jonghyun's chin in his palm and swivelled his head so they were eye to eye,"We will get through this together, do you hear me? No matter what, I won't leave you. Not like they did, because family is forever." Key let go and strode out of the room, tears b in his eyes as he slammed the door to the bedroom, tired of holding everything back and just needing some space.

Jonghyun became stunned for a moment, this being the first true emotion he had seen from Kibum in quite a few weeks, his heart beating loudly in his ears. Taking calming breaths, he made his way back to makeshift bed he had set up on the couch. Slipping beneath the soft covers, he settled into the couch and his heavy lids pushed him into a deep sleep. Sitting alone in his dark room, his eyes red from the escaping tears he felt his phone vibrate. He jumped a little but he could tell who it would be at this time of night. He pulled the device out of his sweat pants pocket, and flipped it open. A small blue glow illuminated the room, a new message from an unknown blinked on the screen.

Our beloved Key~!
How are you going, is Jonghyun coping? Myself, Onew and Minho have all left for America, so it may be a little while again before we contact you again. :( We decided leaving the country will be the best way to escape the media from finding us. We miss and love you both and wish we could see you guys. Maybe one day we will all meet again in the future. Because as you know all too well, family is forever.
                                 - Much love, Taeminnie.

He closed the flip phone and slipped it away before burying himself under the heavy comforter once again. He felt awful lying to Jonghyun, but it was the easiest way for him to forget the rest of them. But if this was really for the best, why did it cause his stomach to churn in unease?
