Date Night

Moonless Nights

"Actually, and I know, Jinki, that you'll probably be less than please with me for putting you through all that for nothing, but..." Taemin trailed off, flushing slightly as he held Minho's hand tighter. "But I think it would be better to tell us when you tell Jonghyun and Kibum, too," he said softly.

"Oh, I didn't even think of them," Minho nodded slowly. "That might really help them adjust to the news, Jinki, to lessen the blow because we're all hearing it together. And Kibum would be really upset about finding out that we already knew everything and kept it secret from him..."

Jinki tilted his head slowly, having honestly completely forgotten about his step brother and the younger's boyfriend. In fact, he hadn't even really considered Taemin in any of it until the youngest of the four vampires reached Minho's apartment. "You really think they would be that upset about it?" he asked, lowering his gaze briefly when he caught the look said youngest gave him, a look that told him how stupid he was for even asking.

"And..." Minho started, interrupting the moment being shared by the cousins. "Taemin and I had planned to go out tonight, on a... On a date... So maybe we should take a break from all this and figure out something once we come back and everyone's emotions are under control?" he suggested quietly.

"Oh?" the father-to-be smiled knowingly at an increasingly flustered looking Taemin. "You have a date, do you?" he grinned, unable to resist teasing the younger a little more. "Taemin? Do I need to give you the talk again? Kibum isn't here to make sure you're embarrassed beyond belief," he chuckled, trying his best to make a serious face as he turned to Minho. "And you, human. No means no, got it?"

"Hyung!" Taemin huffed, standing up and pulling his boyfriend with him. "We'll be back later," he mumbled, flipping off the other vampire as he left the room to put his shoes back on.

"Look at my manly man telling Jinki to off," Minho chuckled next to Taemin, pushing him against the door to kiss him firmly. "You've been really great through all of this, baby," he smiled softly before opening the door to take the elder outside.

"Minji is actually really sweet and they really do love each other to pieces," the vampire smiled softly while they walked to Minho's car. "And it was really big of her to let me taste her blood. Vampires and witches, and werewolves and demons too, there's a counterbalance power block or whatever you call it between us all. Witches can't see any of our futures, vampires can't read any of their minds, werewolves can't track any of us worth crap, and demons can't possess any of us," he explained, touching his cheek lightly where Minji had up his tears.

"So what's the big deal about her blood, then?" Minho asked curiously once they were both all settled. He knew there were a lot of rules, but only the ones about vampires and only that vampires weren't supposed to give out their blood.

Taemin nodded to himself a little, turning the radio on low. "If a vampire drinks another's blood, it takes away that block. I can read her thoughts now, because she let me have a little of her blood," he smiled softly at his lap. "And for witches, it's tears. I cried a little, sneaky ," he chuckled as he shook his head a little. "So she tasted my tears, too, and now she can have visions about my future," he told his boyfriend quietly.

Minho smiled back and nodded slowly. "That's really cool of you, Taemin," he replied before turning onto the final road that led to their destination. "I'm glad we're getting out tonight. This is nice," he mumbled, smiling widely as they pulled up in front of the restaurant he had been planning to take Taemin to for a while.

"Oh, Minho..." Taemin breathed, wide eyed as he looked up at the building. He smiled as Minho opened the door for him, letting the human lead him into the restaurant. "You spoil me, Choi Minho," he murmured, instantly assaulted with the smell of the sea. Well, the creatures who dwell there, at least. Dead ones. Cooked ones.

Minho just shook his head while they sat down. "Only because I lo-" he stopped himself, glancing down and clearing his throat. "I love spoiling you, Taemin," he said quietly, quickly relaxing into the small talk that occurred between visits from their waitress.

"Wait... Wait wait wait," Taemin held his hands up to stop Minho from talking several minutes later, shaking his head and taking a big drink of his water. "So you're telling me that you were one of those jerks in high school thought everyone would fall at his feet in awe? Or on their knees to get in your pants?" he choked out, laughing a little too loudly at the now blushing Minho.

"Yah!" Minho hissed, covering his face and forcing a bite of a biscuit into the other's mouth to shut him out. "I had my fair share of lovers in my day. And when it was soccer season, I really was popular," he nearly pouted, instead flicking a small piece of shell at his boyfriend.

"Okay okay, fine," Taemin nodded slowly, eating his food properly with the human and smiling as they talked about more silly stuff. He sighed happily once the food was gone, letting his boyfriend pay and take him out to the car once more.

Minho didn't turn toward home, though, heading toward another place he thought would be nice. "I know you saw a little of my plans for our date. This is the part you saw me thinking about, right?" he chuckled as the movie theater came into view. "I just couldn't decide what sounded good, or what time. I was thinking about movies a lot," he smiled as they parked once more, skipping snacks after they got the tickets because there was no need after just eating.

Taemin nodded, leaning against Minho a little once they sat down. "It's been a while since I came to see something like this," he smiled, even bigger as the human laced their fingers together. "Are you sure you're not trying to wine and dine your way into my pants?" he grinned, chuckling lightly as he read a few of his boyfriend's thoughts that had taken a turn toward the bedroom.

"I don't want to rush you, but I'll be really happy when we get that far," Minho mumbled, clearing his throat as if it would chase away the heat in his cheeks. "As long as we're really sure that Kibum isn't going to actually kill me when that happens," he grinned and settled in as the movie began.

"I won't let him. You'll do your little slave thing for him in a few days, and then you'll be okay. He said he would accept us, and that includes all the ways you get to corrupt my body," Taemin grinned and laughed loudly at the look that came over Minho's face.

Minho's mouth opened slowly in surprise, then closed again as he chose not to say anything back to his boyfriend. Instead, he just held his hand tighter and shifted in his chair again to be more comfortable for the movie.

"That was awesome!" Taemin grinned, hugging Minho tightly in the still dark room once the movie was over. He bit his lip before leaning up some to kiss his boyfriend softly, smiling once he stood back on his feet and rested his forehead against Minho's chest.

Minho hummed quietly at the kiss, rubbing Taemin's back for a few minutes before kissing the side of his head. "Let's go," he mumbled, taking the elder to the car and then driving him to the park, the park where everything had started.

Taemin bit his lip harder when he saw where they were, hesitating for the first time that night with the human. "Minho?" he whispered, trembling slightly as the man pulled him out of the car.

"I just thought that it would be nice to have a good memory here," Minho explained, holding Taemin close before walking slowly with him to the swings. He sat the vampire down, pushing him slowly before changing his mind. "Come here, baby," he smiled, taking the boy to the slide instead. He sat down, pulling Taemin onto his lap and kissing him lightly. "We can leave the moment you say so," he mumbled, not wanting his boyfriend uncomfortable.

"I can stay for a while, just don't leave me," Taemin said quietly, closing his eyes and listening to Minho's heartbeat. He thought about all the times he had been hurt there, the human's presence somehow letting him finally get over some of the things that had happened.

Minho stayed still for a long time, just rubbing the elder's back slowly. "I was wondering, Taemin. You and Jinki are cousins, but you're missing three out of four parents. And your biological grandmother was human too, right? But she's gone, too. What happened to everyone?" he asked gently.

Taemin blinked his eyes open at the question, smiling as he nodded lazily. "Well, Grandfather never married my biological grandmother. She was a human fountain that he fell in love with. She died in childbirth with my father, and he was raised by Grandmother. The marriage between Grandmother and Grandfather was arranged, and they were in nearly married when my human grandmother was married. I've been told by several servants who were around then, as well as Grandmother herself, that she forgave Grandfather and treated my father as her own."

"You and Jinki aren't that far apart, right? So your fathers must have been pretty close in age as well?" Minho asked curiously, shivering a little in the cool night air.

"No, not really. Well, I suppose in vampire years they weren't very far apart," Taemin started, tilting his head as he tried to remember the exact dates when he noticed the younger shiver again. "Let's go to the car," he offered, glad to be out of the park.

"My father was about five vampire years older than Jinki's father," the vampire explained while they walked. "It was fourteen human years apart, which isn't really all that uncommon in the vampire community. We tend to count by vampire years first with little regard for human years," he smiled, then looked down slowly, silent until they reached the car.

"Jinki was three when he ignited, and I was still an infant. A few years later, when I was four, my parents were in a car accident. My father could have broken out and ran from the car when the engine started to catch fire, but my mother was pinned in too tightly. He was still trying to pull her out when the car exploded and they both died. Jinki's parents took me in and he became by older brother rather than my cousin."

"Taemin, I... I didn't kno-" Minho stopped as his boyfriend shook his head and reached out touch his fingers to the human's lips. Taemin barely gave a smile as he climbed into Minho's lap once more and rested his head.

"The year I turned seven, there was a bit of a war between our coven and a pack of wolves," the elder murmured against Minho's chest. "It was before you were born, and the wolves were thicker around here, and much stronger. Jinki's father fell in an early fight because they had underestimated the wolves. Grandfather was killed near the end, in a fight with many well trained on both sides. And that's how everyone who died left us," he whispered, closing his eyes to hold in the tears he had promised himself he wouldn't ever shed again.

Minho nodded slowly, just pulling his arms around the younger looking male tighter and holding him close. He Taemin's back, then his head, humming softly after a while to help soothe the hurt he couldn't help but assume the vampire felt. "So, after that, it was you, Jinki, his mother, and Grandmother?" he mumbled, thinking out loud.

Taemin made a confirmation noise sleepily, not realizing how much he'd gone through that day. "Mr. Kim had been a family friend for a while, and it only took about one and a half human years before he and Jinki's mother fell in love. Two years after the war, they got married and we got another brother. He brought Kibum with him, more or less," he smiled to himself, thinking about the older vampire. "Jonghyun's mother was murdered by a bewitched vampire child, but that's a story for another time, I think," he declared, taking a deep breath before scooting over to his own seat.

"And now Jinki and Minji are going to have a baby. So you'll have two more to add to your family tree, right?" Minho smiled as he started the car, wanting Taemin actually in a bed to sleep off all the excitement of his day.

Taemin smiled widely and nodded, reaching over to hold the other's hand. "I think I can accept whatever they have to say. It's Kibum and more Jonghyun, I think, that will have the greatest problem," he sighed, but he knew how much the other two cared for and respected Jinki.

Minho couldn't help but wonder how everything would play out, a little worried because there were so many things against them. All the rules, the way Jinki's family could and likely would react. He stayed mostly quiet on the way back to his apartment, knowing that Taemin could feel how unsettled he was.

"Minji seems confident that everything will work out, and since she's the one that can see the future, I'll believe in her," Taemin offered quietly as they pulled up to park. "Tonight has been really amazing, Minho, thanks," he smiled and leaned in a little. He panicked at the last minute, though, and froze, not wanting to be too forward.

"Every night I have with you is amazing, baby," Minho grinned, running his hand through the other's hair to cup his cheek and bring their lips together. He bit lightly at Taemin's lower lip, using the gasp that resulted as an opportunity to kiss him deeper and slip his tongue into his mouth. Reluctantly, after several minutes of long, wet, kisses, Minho pulled back and pecked his boyfriend's nose.

The walk to Minho's home, Taemin's part-time home, was full of smiles and light laughs, stolen kisses filling in the gaps. They walked in to find Minji and Jinki asleep on the couch, Jinki sitting on one end with Minji leaning against him and the vampire's arm protectively draped over her stomach.

"Hyung, Noona..." Taemin whispered, detaching from his boyfriend to shake them gently awake. "Why don't you two go take Minho's bed? We can sleep out here, it's fine," he smiled softly, glancing back to see Minho nodding in agreement.

"I have something for you first," Minji said quietly, rubbing her eyes a few times before reaching for two small vials on the coffee table. "I need you both to drink this, Jinki already did his," she requested, holding one in each hand for the other men.

"What is it?" Minho asked curiously, not about to take any sort of potion that might turn him into a frog. Kibum would get a kick out of that, though... he barely chuckled to himself.

Minji nodded, smiling up at them gently. "It's a potion that will hide me from your thoughts. You can still think about me, and you'll remember everything you know about me, but no one else can read it. Basically, it's a fairly common potion to-"

"It will keep Kibum and Jonghyun and the rest of the vampires at home from seeing anything about Minji in our minds," Taemin cut in, pursing his lips and taking a deep breath before opening the concoction and drinking it before he had too much time to think about it and change his mind. "I'll still kiss you if that happens, baby," he chuckled, having caught the thought about Minho becoming a frog.

Minho grinned, croaking like a frog before letting the potion pass through his lips as well. "What about after they know? I mean, won't this be unnecessary once everyone knows?" he asked curiously, tilting his head as the witch giggled.

"You're cute, Minho. This will be fun," the woman smiled, opening her bag and pulling out several containers of ingredients. "You'll have to drink another potion. Almost all the ones I make have a countering recipe. To make someone forget, then make them remember. To force someone to believe, then let them make their own choices. To make someone brave, then use their own strength once more. To hide, and then reveal," she listed, ending with another giggle. "And I promise not to spike anyone's food."

Jinki let out a small yawn, helping Minji put her things away before taking her bag into Minho's room. "Thanks for everything, Minho, really," he whispered, bowing slightly toward the human before helping get extra blankets and pillows for the living room.

"I don't know if this counts as saving you, Jinki, or where this would fall on the master rules, but..." Minho looked down briefly. "Let's call this me saving Minji, okay? The only thing you owe me is doing the dishes and taking out the trash when it's your turn," he smiled, dropping the formalities entirely to move forward and hug the vampire tightly. "Go sleep, Romeo," he mumbled before shooing the other into the bedroom.

It didn't take long before the couch bed was pulled out and made, Minho having grabbed clothes to sleep in for both he and Taemin. Taemin hesitated a moment, but quickly cuddled close to the younger. "I'm really glad I have you Minho," he whispered, his eyes closing easily once he was surrounded by the other's warm embrace.

"Me too, Tae, me too," Minho mumbled, his boyfriend's back until he was sleep, his own hand moving slower and slower until he had finally drifted into peaceful darkness as well.
