Chapter 21: Poker Face
I Still Want To Love YouShe stared blankly at the ceiling above her. It seemed so high and unreachable. It has been hours since she woke up to find herself in this odd room. The last thing that she remembered was being shoved into a vehicle and knocked out hard in the head as soon as she was fully inside and out of sight. Surprisingly, she wasn’t tide down in any way when she gained consciousness, and she was definitely free to roam around. Though obviously her limit was set behind the locked doors.
YeonHee sat straight on the chair and diverted her gaze towards the closed door. She had no idea who was out there, and what they wanted from her. Perhaps they wanted her wealth just like everybody else, but who would know for sure if no one bothered to see and communicate with her. She had tried knocking and calling out for random people earlier, but she was successfully ignored. She wouldn’t bother to do it again.
This wouldn’t be the first time for her to face a situation such as this. She had been kidnapped quite a few times in her life before, and she survived each time without getting killed. Though, there was no such reason for her not to fear for the worst this time. As she got older, many things have changed, and she believed that requesting for ransom at this point wouldn’t be as worthwhile of the effort for the ‘kidnapping’ anymore as having her dead. Even Changmin had repeatedly said it to her that her life was the utmost important thing for him to keep safe. He even had the gruesome statistics laid out in front of her as he was proving his point. And now, his effort could come down to nothing as she had stupidly walked into the trap and into their ugly hands.
Changmin…
She bit her lips and looked down at her feet in sorrow. If things would end here, she would regret it forever for not putting enough trust in him and purposely ignored his instructions. He had sacrificed too much for her, yet she had allowed her emotions to take over and screw things up. She was so stupid! She shouldn’t have acted that way when she saw Changmin talking to that girl. Even as happy and comfortable as he looked because of the contact, Changmin had clearly showed who his love interest was. He might not have announced it to the whole world, but she has definitely seen it in his eyes. And here she was, betraying his trust upon her and letting herself walk right straight towards the danger. She should have known better.
Suddenly she could hear faint footsteps coming nearer and she stood up in alert. Are they coming for her now? Should she hide? Should she find any means of protecting herself from physical attacks? Or would the footsteps just go away?
And then there was the jiggling of a bunch of keys. Her face paled.
She backed herself until she came in contact with the wall behind her and she watched silently as a figure appeared from behind the door. There wasn’t enough light in the room and she can’t make out who this person was. Her tongue was tied and her feet were pinned to the floor. This couldn’t be the end of her.
“I’m not here to hurt you,” the man said, his voice bored.
It definitely wasn’t the queue for her to let out a sigh of relief. Strangers imprisoned her and they are capable of doing absolutely anything to her. She silently prayed that Changmin was there with her, or at the very least, he would be looking everywhere for her now!
“I’m unarmed. Relax,” the man told her again, settling the keys on the table and sat down on the chair opposite from the one she had occupied earlier. “I came to talk.”
She eyed him, but made no attempt to come closer. She couldn’t even move a muscle out of anxiety.
“Look, I’m just the middle person. Unless I’m given orders to hurt you, I will keep my hands to myself. Please… Have a seat,” he motioned to the chair opposite of him. “It won’t take long. I promise.”
She gulped, and finally moved forward. Her eyes never left his as she approached him. “What do you want from me?” she demanded as soon as she sat as far away from him as possible.
He chuckled. “I know that you are very rich. But trust me, none of your assets interests me. I’m simply trying to get my job done.”
“Liar…”
“Fine. Maybe I am. But that’s not the point. You need to answer one question, and you have to answer it truthfully, or your loved one will have to pay the price.”
YeonHee gritted her teeth. “Either I tell you the truth or not, you’d still make his life miserable.”
“How did you know that the loved one that I’m referring to is a ‘he’?” the man asked, amused. “So does this mean that you really have feelings fo
