Greeting the Downpour
Your Words
A downpour of rain greeted Mina when she stepped out from under the eaves, but she didn't care. She walked purposefully down the street, enjoying the feel of the water on her face.
Beside her, Sunggyu hitched up the collar of his coat and tried to shake the rain from his hair. But when he saw Mina with her face turned up, letting the water wash over her, he stopped fighting it and even mimicked her action. He smirked. Normally, he hated rain, but with Mina, it suddenly felt so peaceful. So welcoming.
They walked aimlessly in silence for a long while, until their clothes and hair were soaked. Sunggyu peeked at her from the corner of his eye, but knew better than to interrupt her. Every once in a while, their hands would brush against each other while they walked. He was so tempted to just take her hand into his-- he would so confidently make his move with any other girl without a second thought.
But Mina was different from any other girl. He tucked his hands into his pockets to fight the temptation.
They came to the end of another row of boutiques, glitz and glamour shining from their store-front windows, when suddenly, Sunggyu felt a slight tug on the sleeve of his coat. Surprised, he stopped. Mina had limply taken hold of him, her wet hair cascading forward, blocking her face.
"Sunggyu."
His eyes rounded at the fragileness of her voice. "Yes, Mina?" he spoke softly.
"With what Kibum did to me... do you think it could happen again?"
"...I guess there's no way of knowing."
There was a moment of silence. Her grip on his sleeve tightened slightly.
"Sunggyu."
"Yes, Mina."
"I feel so broken."
"...I know."
More silence.
Suddenly, she wheeled towards him, meeting his eye. He couldn't tell if she was crying, or if it was just the rain on her face. But there was so much resolve in her eyes, as she scanned his face and spoke more firmly.
"Sunggyu, I need some sort of confirmation."
He smiled tenderly at her. "Of what?"
"I don't... I don't know if I can trust you. I want to, but..." Her voice cracked, and she finished off with a whisper. "I don't know if I can."
The rain fell quietly around them, but Sunggyu only saw the sheen on her face and the wet locks that clung to her cheeks. He only felt the small clutch on his sleeve, and the strange warmth that spread through his chest. And never in his life had he ever felt that he was exactly where he was supposed to be. There was no doubt in his mind. He belonged right here. Right next to this beautiful, broken, crazy closet writer who had managed to steal his heart.
"Mina, what are you so afraid of?" he whispered.
The words rang with familiarity. All of a sudden, something inside of her burst, melting away her toughness and leaving her tired and weak and desperately longing. A large lump formed in , and her vision blurred with more than just rainwater. But she focused on his steady gaze, watching as, slowly, he reached forward and pulled her into his warm embrace.
